back in 2017 I bought the same car, same color, same engine for about $29k USD and had 18k miles on it. 50k+ miles later it's running like a beast. The Ford V6 engine that's notorious in the F150's probably the backbone of the whole company which is probably why they never went bankrupt. Incredibly reliable and fun to drive. I've replaced the hideous infotainment system with an Android 11 Tesla screen and added few ambient lightning and replaced the sound system with a premium one. Sporty grip tyres, a wing for aero. I never leave the car without a smile and don't plan to ever sell it or replace it with a GT. I think a cold air intake + simple tune and maybe a new exhaust would be a sweet spot in terms of weight and power I've yet to try it.
V6 Mustangs are really underrated. They sound really good, the economic and service is really cheap, well beside water pump that's only issue i think, correct me if i'm wrong. I am looking forward to the day when I will be the happy owner of one of them, everyday gonna be the best day
I have about 60k on my 16. So far no problems with the water pump or anything. The 3.7 was a solid platform and we are at the end of the line for cars in this category in a SUV world. That alone make it a keeper. Thanks for the update
Yeah I’ve heard some people say that this engine is one of the most reliable engines Ford ever put in a Mustang, including comparing the 3.7 to some of the V8 options
Mine's a 2020 Ecoboost stick shift. It's got plenty of power for me, quicker than my old RX-7. And as a little old lady told me the other day in the Walmart parking lot "It's just gorgeous. Giddy up go!".
I have had my 2015 ingot Silver convertible for over 3 years now. I bought it for $17.1k after taxes & fees @ 84k miles. My month payment is $270 a month. That being said I absolutely love my car , it's got a bunch of exterior mods but I've been running an MPT PRX tune for almost the entire time I've had the car and it's light-years better than the stock tune. I have the 6r80 auto but I have transmission tuning with my MPT tune. I'm still on the stock 3.15 gears ⚙️ for now. But I currently have an AFe Power drop airfilter + their air tube, the MPT tune and then a custom catback consisting of a SR performance x pipe and Borla Atak axle backs. It's a loud and great sounding setup that I love listening to with the vert top down. I'm usually always driving manually with the paddle shifters. This 3.7 is a majorly underrated engine. Even with the mods + tune I just listed, I have beaten a 2011-12 Gen 1 5.0 from a 80mph -140mph and I started from behind him and reeled him in. The 3.7 has a forged crankshaft & forged piston rods from factory and you can safely make 550 - 600whp/wtq safely with a procharger, 67mm single turbo or even 200 shot of nitrious. I'm personally gonna do full bot on for now. All im missing are some shorty style headers and ported intake manifolds. Ill eventually be installing a modified stock GT catback because they neck down from a 2.5" to a 2.25" when connecting to the cats. My biggest suggestion for you is to get a 3.73 final gear ratio and an MPT (More Power Tunng) PRX tune and do them at the same time ⏲️ then come back with another video will the changes 👍 Also I've only ever had to change the water pump 💧
I have a 2012 Mustang 3.7... I bought it in 2018 with 83k miles... I just passed 180k, and it is still going strong... the only real major issues that I've had along the way was replacing the water pump at 170k, replacing the fan motor for the AC, and the window switches in the doors... I did all the work replacing them, and parts were less than $300 in total... I can honestly say it has definitely been a fun car to have as a daily driver.
Mine gets shipped to me on Friday and I cant wait. I've wanted a Mustang forever and finally was able to find a good one! It'll be my first manual transmission car as well! (and it's in the same blue and close to the same miles as yours funny enough!) (btw I love how the blue looks in that intro man, wow) I really appreciate your video demonstrations of your exhaust setup, mod installs, letting me know what things to expect, etc. It's helping me figure out what I want to do with it already, so thanks so much!
your in my prayers the government bought ford and there made to break down daily for repairs! the driveline goes bad, transmission, bearings, water pump. never ever race a mustang you will lose there the slowest out there nissian altimas blow you away lmao. if you race the fall apart blow gaskest
i don't know exactly where you're at, but it sure looks like hwy 21 south of Sparta :) Great vid! I just recently purchased a v6 2014 Mustang (only 96,000 miles, one owner!), and according to the carfax the water pump had already gone out, so i've got that issue behind me :) It is definitely a very fun ride, it reminds me for all the world of driving my old 1978 280Z back in high school during the 80's, except a little wider and more comfortable (sort of like me, a little wider and a little stiffer)
Beautiful car. I love the color. That Blue is gorgeous. Mine's a 2017, 3.7L 6 speed manual in silver with a 3.55 rear end. I share your sentiments and experiences. Thanks for putting in the on-road video. Nice to watch a Mustang in it's element!
i have a 2015 v6 one. added bbk short tube headers, sr performance x pipes, sr performance muffler deletes, and a jlt cai with mpt tune. it sounds nice & it definitely still has power. nearing 100k miles now.
The BMR cradle lockout level 2 kit and maybe some new vertical links with delrin bushings should help you significantly with that floaty unstable feeling with the rear end. It's an easy install and it keeps your IRS cradle aligned straight all the time while killing power robbing wheel hop..definitely worth IMO.
You have fun driving it. That is what’s important. Your car sounds great! I can’t afford a GT so the v6 or Ecoboost is the best “bang for the buck” for me. I might even step back to 2013-14 V6.
Check the rear window the metal at the top right corners should be peeling back and paint flaking off working its way to become a massive water leak, it’s common on all s550 mustangs from 15-18 it usually doesn’t show up till outs of warranty but takes a lot of work to fix
Just went to the dealership this past Saturday and struck a good deal on a 2016 V6 in that exact color with the automatic transmission. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the paperwork today and collect it but it may have to wait until Friday. I'll definitely want to have that waterpump looked at right away because I don't think its been changed before, at least according to the Carfax.
The v6 is a better daily driver than the 5.0 there is nowhere to use the power of the 5.0 in daily driving and I owned both. I have also rented the gt500 overkill now tracking the car is a different story. The only annoying thing about the v6 is hearing what the haters say. One thing I will say I enjoy is the sound of the v8s.
It’s funny to me every time… possibly going from my stage 2 02 roush mustang… to the faster better handling IRS S550 V6. No one hates on the Roush people love it. But not the V6… oh damn I guess the Roush sucks then??????????
Nice video bro 💪🏼 I have a question if I add bbk shorty headers to my 2017 mustang v6 will I need a tune , Some people say I do and others don’t . What do you think ?
3.7 v6 is best engine. I have stock exhaust and looking for something not annoying in highway because i will doing 1000+ km trips but also deep sound in revs. Do you think solution h pipe + borla touring will be better than stock and not too loud in cabin when highway travel or better option is just s type axle back. Plz help me with advice. Sorry for my bad language i come from Poland 😊
I definitely think that the Borla S types is the way to go. The only reason why I dislike the touring option that Borla offers is because it’s just a little to close to the stock sound, and not worth that amount of money. If I was in your situation I would put on the Borla S type system first and see how it sounds from there. And then see how you like it, and maybe add the H pipe afterwards.
Limited-time deal: REDTIGER Dash Cam Front Rear, 4K/2.5K Full HD Dash Camera for Cars, Free 32GB SD Card, Built-in Wi-Fi GPS, 3.18” IPS Screen, Night Vision, 170°Wide Angle, WDR, 24H Parking Mode a.co/d/gdo1kk0 This is the one that I got. It’s pretty decent overall there are definitely better options out there depending on how much money you want to spend. I wanted something that came with a front and back camera. Definitely don’t get anything that’s less than 4K in terms of quality. One of the biggest reasons for that is the higher quality camera should allow you to zoom in on a license plate, in the event that you are sideswiped in the person keeps running. Or for some reason need to zoom in on a license plate that was at a higher rate of motion when the car drove by. The camera definitely takes better footage during the day than it does at night. But overall it’s pretty decent for the price.
What mileage waterpump failed? Was there leaking around alertnator. Do you have parts number? My v6 has 80 000 miles and i wonder if i should change it preemptively.
Hello, what is your Cai temperature when you stay in trafic and on a highway? I ask you because i install Open jlt filter with no box and it is awful. Only hot Air from Engine comes and i have no power. I want install airride in take with box. And i Wonder it will be better or not
Top speed is about the same and only 1.5 sec slower than the 8. They are fun cars and yes ppl try to race all the time a lil annoying. Its fun to lead them right into speed traps racing when u have an antilaser 😂 or make them shat themselves with a KA band blast from the stalker 😂.
I have not yet. I’m just still debating on if it’s worth the possibility of making my neighbors more annoyed with my car. Currently I feel like I am in that sweet spot where it’s not too loud on a cold start or not too quiet. but the car is definitely loud when it’s time to put the power down and do some wide-open throttle pulls.
