Prepare yourselves to hear the story of Yeonmi Park because it’s heavy.
When she was a teenager, Yeonmi escaped from North Korea to China. What she experienced was horrible - being sold as a sex slave by border officials, walking across Mongolia in the middle of winter and nearly dying of starvation.
But Yeonmi made it out alive, and now she lives happily in Chicago. She is outspoken about the terrible regime in North Korea and she voices her thoughts on her TH-cam Channel, and through various best selling books. I invite you to share your opinions about Yeonmi’s story and about North Korea in general in the comments below.
Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and remember that freedom is not always free.

Drew, People, who goes to North Korea they are not allowed to see the reality of North Korean and Korea. Whatever we know with social media. One thing for sure, Kim Jong-Un is not good and people are suffering. I saw same conditions in Libya , while working in 2001. People were not allowed to go out of country, they had no idea about outside world.

It really can go both ways. You could be fired for saying something homophobic and call it cancel culture, but people get fired and used to get fired for being gay up until recently (and still recently happens my mom works for a catholic school and they fired someone for being gay last year). But it’s not done by the government it’s done by private business so there is a big difference. But I agree that cancel culture is out of hand with some things.

Well, what she says is very important to the whole Western world, that seems to be self-destructive. The story of her life in North Korea and how it's shaped her commitment to human rights and views of her adopted country offer a rather unique vision of the US as it moves forward to the future. My heartfelt congratulations to Yeonmi for becoming one of America's newest citizens! Welcome home!

“Find meaning in life. If you have a meaning- everything is bearable.“ beyond true and beautiful words. Thank you Yeonmi for all of your work for human and women’s rights. Please keep doing exactly what you’re doing- I think every word and one can make a difference… Especially in regards to sexual abuse and any matters that people try to censor or refuse to discuss- I think that’s the hardest but most important of it all. We need more of that. And thank you drew for all of your amazing videos and drive to share such important issues and perspectives… Before my epilepsy I always aspired to do what you do for a career, although even if I can’t it makes it not so bad knowing there’s someone out there doing such a great job of it! 🙌🏼💕👍

She has such a beautiful soul, incredibly inspirational! It's amazing to hear her share about her love for our country here in the USA. She's pushing for us, our rights, our freedom, the country that my dad fought for and all of our soldiers are fighting for. I haven''t met another American that care as much as she does (aside from other military brats and veterans). She cares about humanity and now knows how freedom looks and feels. She now fights for others to have the same and to maintain our freedom here. It's truly incredible, especially how she even cares about those who abuse it. It's just absolutely incredible!!
