Clay, at the end of the video you were trying to think of an activity analogous to hunting that one could not live without. For me it's art. I paint nature and that means I have to be in it to know it well enough to represent it in oil paint. I would not be me without it so I know how you feel. The common denominator is nature. We feel more human when we connect with nature no matter the activity. Great video! Thanks for sharing! Keep 'em coming!
Thank you again for sharing 🙏. I’m a busy Paramedic in Texas and was able to get a few days off last weekend. Took my recurve out to some friends land in east Texas and went for a walk. Saw plenty of pigs but they were on the move. Now watching this, and prepping my mind for the next string of days off, soon to come.
Hunting is the purpose, for being out there . Hunting is the purpose, says it all. The idea of a hiking without a bow shotgun or fishing rod in my hand sounds crazy to me . The Raw emotion of adrenaline in the new hunter’s eyes when you guys stocked in close, is undeniable. Great video and looks like a tasty meal .
Hey Clay I’m a local to that area. I’ve been hunting that island for 20 years. There’s some hard marsh in there with shorter grass that’s like an African Safari. Much much easier to hunt and walk around in. I’d be honored to show you guys and maybe hang out one evening next time you’re in the area! Congrats! On the pig!!

I'm so glad you can feed your family this way. I don't feel as complete in my surroundings as you probably do. I don't have these options here in Germany. Of course I could get a hunting license, buy a rifle and go hunting in a rented piece of forest, which in Germany is actually almost exclusively tree plantations. But it doesn't come close to the attitude to life that you embody. I am very happy that you have the opportunity to live so close to nature. I personally find this discussion about whether hunting with a bow is ethically justifiable unnecessary. Benji described it very well. It's about experiencing nature and eating, not killing. And when I look at the conditions under which the animals are kept that are processed into the meat pulp from the supermarket and how many scandals there are about it, then I much prefer your way of procuring meat. Also with an eye on animal welfare. Your food was allowed to develop healthily and happily in its natural environment until the end. Best regards from Germany, Marko.

Exactly right it’s not just about killing and if your hunting for that reason you will be disappointed and won’t last long I have many deer tags that were never filled but I loved every minute spent in the timber it is a religious experience
There's nothing wrong in going out and hunting the game yourself bring it home and feeding the family when you go to the store and you look on the shelves you are hunting. You are hunting food from the grocery store to find out what you can bring home to feed the family it's the same analogy but just different setup when you go shopping what are you doing? You are hunting you are hunting clothes that you can buy and put on the shelf when you get home so you can take it off the rack or the shelf and go ahead and put it on. You went hunting looking for that garment. But you only say I went shopping. But the truth is you went hunting for that garment. Hunters you're doing a good job keep up the good work
I had a young college boy working for me and he wanted to learn to hunt so I taught him what I could. He was at a dinner party with his professor father and family and the subject of hunting came up. Someone said the objective was to select the proper animal and wait the perfect shot to humanely dispatch the animal and control the population etc. etc. The young lad politely let him finish and remarked , " the idea is to kill it , thank it and not waste any of it and feed your family. I was proud that he got it. He was bummed after our first season because he didn't make a kill and I told him , dude , one day of hunting you pushed a beautifull buck right to me and if I'd made the shot that would've been "our" deer and you would've got half of it. We did score a little buck we split the next year.

Hey clay I like your show but starting a new hunter in the marsh is a little tuff.maybe you should've started him off in a more forgiving environment too hunt Hog's it just my thoughts. to give the hunter more comferdence and nevures.
Exactly how I feel Clay with shooting a bow is that more stuff on it the easier it is and thus less fun as it is just repeating the same exact thing over and over with a compound or even a recurve with a sight even if it is a hunting sight. The part of making sure I do the aiming right is gone with only having to work on back tension with a compound or with a sight on a recurve is back tension as well as anchor point. Also because I used bows sans sight as a kid, with lighter weight types of one piece laminate recurve/flat limb bows with most being more like the hunting bows just not at the hunting draw weights, I am not really comfortable using most other types of bows though there are a few I could use. I guess maybe I could use a Genesis--X/Gen--X bow sans sight for hunting since it is one of the last models still made one can use without a release tool and yes a could use a lever-bow without release tool or without sight those would be about as far as I could go with a bow now and with the Genesis--X/Gen--X compound it would feel a bit off and a Lever bow if a good model is going to feel heavy to me even more then a Compound since a one piece hunting style bow is what I am used to in weight of the bow, something that is really light for most others.
Every winter me and my buddy hunt on that island with muzzleloader. By end of the day we're sitting on the top of that dune and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. We used that boat dock for our lunch break as we camped miles further in the canal. It's really good area for hog hunting and camping during winter time.
To me it's doing what man was meant to do. Man was not meant to go to a dumpy job to make just enough to be in debt/poor our entire lives. It's our right and duty to be that top of food chain predator.
I was thinking about his question at the end. What does hunting for people who love to hunt and it’s a part of who they are compare to an activity a min hunter could relate too. Take music from a musician. Take art from an artist. Hunting is that for people who love to hunt.
I think that there are a few sports that get people to be in wild places they might not normally go and I do two of them. For me, first is Hunting where people go to places they might not otherwise and second is Trail running/off trail running with the thought: Hey I could run this spot. I also am planning to do Bowfishing soon, so yeah that too and Have done fishing in the past but these tend to need water so not an always places a person might not go since these are at waters edge where we also have beaches ect, unlike trail running/off trail or hunting where these odd places are people go that are off the main trails. Yes Trail running if doing the: Can I run that?, will take you off the main trail to places you would not go normally. Sure I do some road running too at times I am not near trails or they are not runnable and even that takes me to some parts of a town or road most people do not go because it is an odd bit of land with a few houses in that section before the road ends or odd bit of road that does not go anywhere, but runners will take a part of that road to get out of the more used traffic areas or just run it to see where it goes if just visiting an area. I have done this in my own town with the Trail and Road running or the hunting well not in town but near my town in legal hunting spots that got me to places I would not get to normally or get to be in the case of hunting.
Clay, do you ever buy fattier cuts from the store to mix into your ground meat? In my experience, wild game is very lean for things like sausage or burgers. I’m curious to hear what you do.
You don't need to justify hunting. It has been a part of our history for thousands of years. Those that don't do it, don't understand and they won't until they go out and do it. There are hunters and gatherers. Gatherers don't understand the hunting but yet they partake in the bounty while criticizing the art.

Clay- when you’re out recovering pigs do you carry a shotgun or sidearm just in case? I just got permission to bow hunt hogs on private property here in Georgia but the landowner is requiring to carry a shotgun when tracking. Says he’s had too many incidents. What are your thoughts?
No, never. They can get nasty but it’s usually when they feel cornered. They’re not to agile and you can literally jump over them if needed. I’ve never had one charge me outside of a trapped scenario.
You are living the dream my friend for hunting is about getting out into gods country with my bow just me and a simple stick and string it’s a high that no drug can give just being one with nature it’s simple but complex all in one
You'll not be able to help yourself out of the mud with chest waders on that area if you get stuck. The chest waders create a vacuum when you try to pull your body or feet from a deep mud, specially when you have to push the boat from the mud to the water. Ask me how I know....lol
When it comes to taking a life of a deer😊 or a wild animal let's say, each time you go to the store and buy a piece of meat out of the store I don't care if it's lunch meat chicken pork or beef you are paying for someone to prepare that meat for you so you can buy it that way out of the store so you are investing in the life of that animal that has been taken in the store and butchered what's the difference if you harvest it yourself?
To me hunting is not necessary. You can get the same experience without killing anything. Some of the arguments you give to justify hunting are garbage. I am a keen wildlife watcher, I have travelled the world, and experienced the thrill of seeing large animals up close and personal. As to the living free argument vs raised animals, animal husbandry can be ethical.

I’ve never added fat to burgers. When we make patties, I usually just add an egg and that help them stick together.
