To do the clipping mask in Krita, you must place all the layers in group. The layer you wish to use as a clipping mask must be at the bottom of the stack (or under), and the layers you wish to be inside the mask must have inherit alpha clicked (it looks like a funky a or 3/4 of an infinity sign with a strike through it when activated).
This is something that took me a while to figure out when I first switched from PS to Krita. I have been thinking of making some Krita tutorials for a while if anyone is interested, let me know.

As someone who's been drawing purely traditionally for the past decade and is finally transitioning to digital, this video taught me an important lesson I needed, that no one else is teaching me.
And hard as it is to swallow, it's a lesson I need to come to grips with.
There are simply something effects you can't do on your own, and that's why your programs can do them for you.
    The filtering
    The glows
    The radiant lighting effects
It's all there because YOU CAN'T DRAW IT FREE HANDEDLY. At least not unless you're an expert, but even then, experts probably still use these techniques because they're there to be used and save so much time and mistakes. It's time I accept that I can't draw everything... and that's okay.
Thank you for the lesson Jazza.

There were some shading tricks I already sort of knew, but which I hadn’t really utilized well, and I am a complete mess when it comes to masking layers. I can’t believe how easy clipping masks are, and I’m just kicking myself for never putting in the effort to learn about them. It would have made so many projects so much easier.

You should try out cel shading, I promise you it'll really help improve your digital art. Also, the crayon brush for the soft shading looks, to put it bluntly, bad. I'd recommend more of a chalk or pencil brush, so you can get some sort of hard edge.

Wow cool! I've been doing the magic selection and expanding it for my colors too for like 10 years!!! Awesome I didn't think that was a trick other people used, I use photoshop in a really different way than most people hah! You're the first artist I've seen do this :)

I use Krita, but this still helped and gave me a vague idea on how and what order to do everything in. I'll just use the alpha lock instead though. I really like your brushes, but I'm gonna have to look for something similar as I'm not on Photoshop. Thanks jazza!

Instead of clipping masks, I use layer folders. I set a mask on the folder and place the relevant layers inside. I find this much more logical and easier to manage and to check visually, than clipped layers which go upwards from the clipping masks.

Oh Jazza, Would you share your tips on "How You Color Different Style of Character", maybe in digital coloring, or the value shading?
I love this new episode of coloring. It looks really cool after you put some more effect stokes.
It seems like the drawing this time different from the style you usually draw in video.

You should do a video on the scribble pen. You can scan any color around you and you can draw or paint with it...I think paint but anyway it would be a really interesting video.

  • @bethanyangelstar

There's one thing you can do that's even easier, I found. When you have a black and white image, you don't have to delete any of the white. When you open Photoshop, you duplicate the layer, fill the background layer with white, and set the linework layer as 'multiply'. The white will disappear and won't affect any of the effects below it or above it. It can really help when you're using pictures you've scanned in. You won't accidentally delete some pixels from your linework.
