    I feel like Alan Rickman was a good choice for Severus. While he is older than the character he portrays, I feel like that help give him that unhealthy depressed look. He also has the stern expression and he lives that character. While not exactly the right physique, he was close enough and a great actor.

      Appearance? Not really, considering the only references we get to actual looks make it clear Snape is an ugly bastard.
      Amazing actor? Yes. But he got told that Rowling thing's he's a hero so Rickman toned down Snape from a massively abusive asshole to "snarky and a bit of a jerk". Rather than threatening to poison someone's pet then punishing him when his pet doesn't die, he instead gives an almost disinterested threat that he thinks Harry is up to something. So he doesn't really play Snape as he's portrayed in the books

    • @stellabari246
      @stellabari246 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      @@MurasakiTsukimaru yes, of course he is different, however, with what was kept in the movies, I feel like that makes sense. Of course that’s just my opinion. He is less of a bastard, but it helps make the love for lily more realistic, not to mention, it emphasizes how James was really the bad guy in their youth. It has a lot less impact when the victim is an Ahole.

    We need a part two but with the whole character details stripped right out of the book, like quotes the book makes to paint in the image instead of it prompting.
    Hard to describe but kinda like "Glasses on his face with a scar running down, his eyes were blue like the sky, stern cold gaze" I'm not a writer but I hope you got the idea just reading what the book did to describe the character than drawing that as you read.

    For future reference, "whiskers" is an old expression used to describe a beard, and I tend to think that it also generally describes particularly a thick and wiry one at that since authors usually qualify their description if it is not. • @Ithenna
      @Ithenna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Rodger_Phillips Well, it's old to those a generation or two later. And it could also depend on where you grew up, whether the expression is still in use. In my experience, it was a term I only came across in books like Little House on the Prairie, or Old Yeller or something like that. My grandparents and great-grandmother never used the expression themselves either, but they were from up North and some came from a line of immigrants in the early 1900s, so naturally it wasn't part of their vocabulary. But I understand that the expression was also used more so in the deep south, and may still be used there for all I know.

      @@midoriemi3859 Lol, tbh, I'm not sure I've ever looked up the definition in a dictionary - it's just the definition I learned from reading it in context. I actually have no idea if the definition is supposed to mean a thick or wiry beard, but there always seemed to be a weird phenomenon where authors would add further descriptions if it didn't fall under what I supposed to be a "standard thick beard".

    Thanks for the feedback gang! People have pointed out my thumbnail is similar to a series by Lavendertowne, the content in the video is different to her approach (I had no idea who I was drawing, my team prepared the prompts so it could be a surprise), and I hadn't seen her series at the time of recording, however when making the thumbnail I did see her videos and loved the thumbnail presentation and emulated the style - in my 10 years on youtube I've emulated many styles of thumbnails and many people have emulated my successful thumbnails and titles, that's a very common thing and just a part of navigating content creation on the platform - I hope you understand where I'm coming from, but I'm open to feedback or further thoughts! ❤️

      I think the fact that you didn’t know who you were drawing gives the video more of a game-show feel. It’s clear that the thumbnail is inspired by LavenderTowne’s video series, but you’re not copying her exact video. There’s nothing wrong with having a similar looking thumbnail, hell, most reaction TH-camrs use the same surprised face with a red background and then whatever the subject of the video is. They really made things harder on him with some of these descriptions, like, I know for a fact that Katniss' hair, skin and eyes are all described in the books, and Snape's skin is described as sallow, which is a way better descriptor than unhealthy. That said, I could still guess who they all were from description alone, besides the last one, so I guess they're described well enough.

    • @kenjutsukata1o1
      @kenjutsukata1o1 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yeah, I'm not sure what their game is. For example, I'm almost positive that Snape gets described as having black eyes in the books on multiple occasions (i.e. presumably just so dark of a brown that it's hard to tell the pupils from the irises), yet they didn't mention that at all in the description. He came to that conclusion on his own, but they really shouldn't be claiming the video to be drawing the characters 'exactly' as described in the book if they're not going to use as much of the book's descriptions as possible. It seems like they're trying to give him deliberately vague descriptions in order to make sure he doesn't guess the character (for example, Geralt having yellow eyes with slit-like pupils is mentioned frequently in the books).
      If they want to get unique designs out of him that won't be as heavily influenced by him guessing the character partway through, they should drip-feed him the descriptions. Give him just enough information to get a design going, then start dropping stuff like eye colors/defining features that he can implement after the fact. I suppose it could just be that his crew are just too lazy to spend any amount of time searching for descriptors, which would be a shame.

      Also, Frankenstein created him anew (which is why the Creature is huge, since Frankestein needed to scale up all the blood vessels, nerves, etc.)
      It's also heavily hinted that he was created using alchemy.
      No corpses were harmed in the creating of the Creature. lol (well... except when Frankenstein was studying them, I suppose...)
