Actually, the ship Darth Malak flies in on is the Herald-class shuttle, and has been seen a few times in the background in a few spaceports, most notably in the Sith controlled hanger on Manaan, I think there's a quest that allows you to visit that area.
Even though I know that many games go through the same process, I do feel a bit sad when I know how ambitious a game used to be early in development. Also you do a flip when using power attack too.
okay I wasn't expecting this but this is so cool. Absolutely agree that NPC's reacting to your more naturally would've done wonders for the games overall
This reminds me of the demo footage of kotor 2. Telos has stormy weather and an awesome atmosphere and the devs mention a 2005 release date, when the video itself was recorded in 2004. Its always awesome, and somewhat sad at times, how much these games change in development.
Oh wow, I went down to the comments and was surprised there were no comments, then I realized you uploaded this 1 min ago. I just found your channel today and have binged like 10 videos. KotOR was one of my favourite series when I was younger and your videos have convinced me to do a new playthrough
NPC's reacting naturally to players actions (both quest/story related, but also just gameplay related like running near them, drawing weapons, just doing stuff) is one of the most overlooked aspects of videogame design. This is the best way to create immersion and to make gameworld fascinating to explore. Today's best game with that would be RDR2, but it was done before, like in early 2000's game Gothic. World doesn't need to be huge - it needs to be alive
There's something a bit Mass Effectish about some of those animations. Particularly the exhaustion animations. There's a scene in Mass Effect where Shepard and her/his crew come running out and they have their hands on there knees and they are panting with exhaustion. The interactioning NPCs seems to be something that also seems a bit Mass Effectish as well. I think my love of Bioware games stems from my love of KOTOR though. I do think a lot of things got cut due to time constraints and perhaps even console and pc processing power. Animating a lot of NPCs reactions might have been a time crunch as well as heavy on processing power. I heavily mod Mass Effect and KOTOR to add more NPCs and aspects to the game and a lot of it didn't exist because computers and consoles just couldn't handle it. Devs had to make sure it could handle all the platforms and not break.
Wow the old builds make what we got look so good! Some of the older animations were pretty expressive, so its sad we couldn't see Bastila's more of Bastila's personality portrayed via these. Her dialogue is already a bit snobbish at first, and seeing her mannerisms change over the course of the game would have been really cool. Even so, the actual models an textures were improved immensely, so while KOTOR is still dated, it looks so good when you see where they came from.
Even though I would love a more interactive combat system with the Kotor Remake (Hopefully it actually exists someday) I really like the turn based combat system even though it’s extremely dated, I can’t imagine Kotor without it!
Kotor does not have a turnbased combat. If it had it would had an initiative system. System used is called Real Time with Pause and it's an abomination. I hope that if we ger Kotor 3 it will utilize a proper turnbased system.
@@kronos911 WOTC D20 system was turnbased, but Bioware adopted it into Real Time with Pause system. They did the same for Baldurs Gate and 2 ed DnD. You can't have a turnbased sysem without having turns or initiative. Infinity Engine was originally developed for RTS, before it was adopted for DnD.
...Are you psychic? Because eight months after you hoped it would exist, Saber Interactive has broken off from Embracer to go Private and go all-hands-on-deck for the Knights Remake.
This mystery sith ship just looks like one of the gunshipfreighter designs. I wish they'd stuck to refining some of the combat animations, though. We already got cool ones, but they could've been so much more-especially in how they could move through the small space that the combat is alloted.
Notably, Mass Effect 1 still didn't have ammo, and they had to retcon it in later. Also Bioware already made a third person shooter in MDK2. Dude you nearly gave me a heart attack, I thought it was going to be the remake demo. Don’t do that lol 😂. Just kidding man, this footage looks really impressive. I’ve never seen this before
If they were going to have an ammo count for the blaster, I wonder if the combat was originally not going to be turn based. Interesting to see the game in such an early stage of development.
I think it was probably still party based and removed when they realized they would need to make ammo count meaningless for the AI party members or only Lightsabers would be used.
It looks like "KotOR" was a significantly more ambitious game in the earlier drafts. This one Jedi vs. Sith duel looks stellar, especially the killmove. The little NPCs' reactions to the player, the scripted skirmishes between Sith troopers and the Jedi, or the gangs in Lower City of Taris would make the game so much better, although I am really nostalgic towards the Endar Spire tutorial. A loot system, more animations, finite ammunition in blasters (or maybe even lightsabers as it's set 4000 years before "A New Hope", making vibroblades a permanently viable option in late game) - all of that would make this legendary game levels of magnitude better. It's so sad that no story in the "Star Wars" franchise is as good, as the story of the duology of "Knights of the Old Republic": Revan, Bastila, the Exile, Kreia, and the foreshadowed "true Sith" in the Unknown Regions. They seemed like an even lovecraftian kind of a threat at the end of the second game. It gave me an impression, that even Darth Nihilus with his world-devouring power would seem a lesser danger compared to those unknown ancient Sith. "The Old Republic" shouldn't be mentioned in one sentence with these two great games, in my humble but correct opinion. Corporations and greed do really destroy any art-based industry...
That ship at 10:23 is in the original game, but it looks a bit different and the tip is yellow/orange. It can be seen several times, when different ships come down/go up. It can be seen at Taris on the right side, if you're standing in front of the sith base. And on Manaan, inside the sith hangar. (The one next to your hangar, not the far end side)
Something about the gameplay of this demo seems so smooth, which is very impressive for its time. Hey who knows, maybe the kotor remake will go back to its roots and use this smooth gameplay!
Big changes during the development seem to have been part of Bioware process even early on. The first demos of Mass Effect and Jade Empire were also really different from the final product.
You gained a subscriber just from the simple fact that you actually stated what channel the video came from and the name of it. So many other channels will just say things like “ guys I just found this crazy leak” and then never once mention the source. You a real one fam 💚👏🏻🙏🏼
It should be noted that this was Demo was probably made before the original XBOX was even released, a possible theory as to why the animations in the finished Kotor are worse than what was presented in this Demo is that the original XBOX couldn't handle them whereas the PC could. Heck, if you play the XBOX version of Kotor today and compare it to the PC version the XBOX graphics are lower quality than the PC graphics and many of the NPCs on the XBOX are less diverse than they are on the PC.
As usual for game demos (apart from Duke Nukem Forever's, they should have kept to that version and not the gross one we got), we may be OK with what we really have, but we sure start to miss what was lost from here to the final product. Case in point, movable vehicles outside of swoop racing and Ebon Hawk turret sections.
most appears in swtor. that ship desigs are in art books for the originals and prequels but a bit different and then there's a variation in swtor again but i know from a friend who develops games and worked on many star wars projects that lucasarts will have those books of all the concept art not used and they can build off that stuff to keep a cohesive look across the star wars universe. For example in Clone Wars way back in season 2-3 i forgot now but there is a ship that looked like the razercrest. then in swtor's initial release there is another variation of that same ship and it's seen on rishi a lot these days. Then in Mandalorian they had the razercrest which closely resembles elements of those older designs. The front of that sith ship design at least as it lands looks very similar to the front end of the gozanti class (first seen in rebels with that name) then in The Mandalorian season 2. There's some ship in Swtor again that carries a bit of the resemblance and that ship was put into the KOTFE stuff that came long after the gonzanti was shown in rebels. So maybe it was some very old version of a hip McQuarrie or Chiang drew. Or Doug Chiang was inspired by an older ralph McQuarrie to design the gozanti like he did which is long after this game, but those designs do seem consistent across so many films, artbooks, toys, cover art for some novels and games.

:) Great Video, still a Game a value highly. Cut content is always a bane I always thing it lessens the story but I wouldnt know about business decisions either. Great Video.
Glad you made a video on this thank you. It’s so interesting to see early developments of the game in this way. I agree with going for a smooth animation style rather than the stiff movements but not too big deal. And the glimpse of T3, so cutie he is! 🥹
I am shocked and appalled at "why did they remove looting animation" take. Would you really like to have each time when you loot a contained to have to watch an animation before proceeding? This would make looting tiresome without providing any real benefit. Getting rid of looting animation was a great choice.
The combat between the Jedi and Sith looked really cool. Honestly, the only part of KOTOR and KOTOR 2 I actually dislike is the combat. It’s too hands off for me. I don’t mind a turn based style, but I don’t particularly care for the ability to initiate combat and then walk away from the game for 5 minutes while my character and companions fight without additional input.
It would have been a completely different game. I think the combat looked more action oriented because the team just came off of the framework and success of Jade Empire.
the animations and the combat i'm sort of gutted about but the ammo count lot i'm glad they got rid of that would have stressed me out way too much and would have taken away from the true experience naturally i'm glad they updated the char models and the worlds look so much better
I think the thing I'm most glad didn't make it into the final build, is that god awful run. 😅 Jokes aside, I think a major influence of their decisions (that stripped out a lot of reactive bits) came down to agency and choices available to the player. Something that wasn't handled very well in the sequel.
The other flip I can think of is with Power Attack but otherwise, I'd have killed for more animations like that Jedi vs Sith sequence!! KOTOR 2 went ahead and blue balled me with the Force Choke from the trailer as well lol

It looks like a totally different game, almost like it was made by different developers. not Bioware. Crazy how much changes over the course of development.
that's his favorite restricted area in anchorhead too.
I love the original animations for how clunky they are
They have their charm
Damn son
Damn son indeed.
The reload animation is still in the game you do it during off turns during combat
that's cool, some things look better than the final game itself
:) Great Video, still a Game a value highly. Cut content is always a bane I always thing it lessens the story but I wouldnt know about business decisions either. Great Video.
hi your content is awesome do u have some kind of lets play on these games?
It seems at times you sound
like any other modern Discord
smug, snob gamer...
This was almost an awesome video...
What? 😂
Glad you made a video on this thank you. It’s so interesting to see early developments of the game in this way. I agree with going for a smooth animation style rather than the stiff movements but not too big deal. And the glimpse of T3, so cutie he is! 🥹
Some people may not want this but I would like Revan in the remake to have a voice actor, it worked for the Witcher games so why not for kotor too
Yeah, he has a voice in SWTOR too. Can still have the option to turn it off
@@kylescoolclips yes, having that opinion would be nice
At the same time, it's highly criticized in Fallout 4.
@@ximthedespot4673 still there could be a turn off/on option
Because Geralt's a pre-defined character, KOTOR PC's should not be.

Deleted romance scene between Revan and Bastila
Demo looks much better then final game
Wasn't the exhaustion animation in cutscenes though?
ship on 10 minute was in the game on manaan
It would have been a completely different game. I think the combat looked more action oriented because the team just came off of the framework and success of Jade Empire.
Many younglings were sacrificed to obtain this holoprojection.
A necessary sacrifice
the animations and the combat i'm sort of gutted about but the ammo count lot i'm glad they got rid of that would have stressed me out way too much and would have taken away from the true experience naturally i'm glad they updated the char models and the worlds look so much better
POLISH IS LITERALLY 50% OF THE GAME 😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯
Wow it sounds like the original vision was something more alined with Fable
The demo looked way better honestly
Mass Effect was built far more on top of Jade Empire than KOTOR.
I think the thing I'm most glad didn't make it into the final build, is that god awful run. 😅
Jokes aside, I think a major influence of their decisions (that stripped out a lot of reactive bits) came down to agency and choices available to the player. Something that wasn't handled very well in the sequel.
reminds me of fable
The other flip I can think of is with Power Attack but otherwise, I'd have killed for more animations like that Jedi vs Sith sequence!! KOTOR 2 went ahead and blue balled me with the Force Choke from the trailer as well lol
Neet
So they've made a scripted 'demo' in a completely different engine from one they were developing the game with? That was a scam, plain and simple.
22 years ago, back when Star Wars was good.
Waaaat this looks like it could have been way better than what we got, mannnn 🥲
