If you would use oxygen instead of propane, and ignite the forming cloud after it has formed, you would cause explosions.

Honestly Corn Starch + Propane is a really creative way to get a really cinematic flame. I wouldn't be surprised if they stole that one straight off some Hollywood SFX methods.
