Thanks for making a DIY video that is to the point and doesn't talk about how your grandmother once saw a grey rock on a Thursday back in 1949 and then list your top 100 flavors of ice cream before actually showing how to do the repair.
I'm seriously about to cry. I have had so many plumbing issues with my new home, and this is the first thing I've felt confident enough to fix myself! Thank you so much for this video, you are a great teacher!
You are not alone... I felt the same when I purchased my home. 1 thing after another. I wonder how they pass inspection.. either way still congrats to you on your purchase. It'll get better.. (hopefully lol")
@@blazee3895 After looking into my contracts further, there's no DOUBT in my mind. The inspector and sellers all know each other, I've looked at other properties these"investors" purchased all over the state, same inspector. They're buying these homes, prying on"US" with the cosmetic upgrades but hell under the bandaids!!!
I've watched many, your video is so concise, easy to understand and most importantly to the point. No need to skip nonsense talk to get to the point. Thank you
Thanks so much for the video! Right now my entire life is falling apart! My father passed away recently and now I've got to do everything he did and try to keep myself in existence. I've got a leak in the basement and upstairs the bath tub is dripping and I'm thinking whenever I shower it's going on the basement floor? By doing what you are showing here I'm hoping to eliminate the problems in that area and move forward to all the other maintenance this home requires. You never know just what a person is like until they're gone. My Dad was Superman! Me? I can't even begin to compare to the amazing gift he had at making this a perfect home.
Just followed this video as my faucet was no longer just a drip when off, it had turned into a steady trickle. I'm not very "handy" per say, but this helped me get it fixed for about $25 in parts opposed to a couple hundred for a plumber. Thank you!
Just so you know, if yours only has one handle for hot&cold I replaced mine and it was very easy! Even though there was only one handle there was still two separate holes and all you have to do is replace whichever side looks bad. Usually it's a bad seal (looks like a tiny rubber band). You should be able to physically see which one (or both) are bad. Just make sure you pay attention to how you took everything out and just put it all back the same! Other than that the process is about the same as this video. Hope this helps!
Thank you. I try to do some repairs in my house. I'm not afraid but I always need someone to give me the directions and tools to do it. This isn't as hard as I thought. Thanks again!
Great video matt. I always wondered how that was done and never realized it was that easy. As a homeowner, I'm sure this bit of knowledge will come in handy in the future. You're $19 will save you a ton on your water utility bill!
This is very helpful and I appreciate the step by step instruction. My tub has an all in one knob so I will look for another video but this helped with the concept of what needs to be done. TY
Thanks Matt. I thought this was going to be so much more complicated. And I was really dreading having to go down into my black widow infested crawl space to turn off the water.
those fixtures look just like the ones in my rented house. Thank you for the great tutorial. I think when we do one, we'll do both because Murphy's law, the other one is going to go as well so might as well not wait for it.
Ty ...this helped me fix my leak! For super novices like me...good to know if handle doesn't pop off easy like in video.. ..run and get a handle puller from lowes
For other people trying to do this, you should have more than just that main shut off for your cold water, you should have a shut off valve for each room that has water
Any way to tell what cartridge you need short of pulling one of them out of the wall first? I just moved into a new house and the cold side is dripping steadily only from the tub spout. No leaks above or below, otherwise. I haven't located my water cutoff yet. I was hoping to match the stem cartridge without opening up, but I guess I'll have to. I have a two faucet shower system, with spout and lower chrome bath/shower lever plate. No middle faucet diverter. Can I pull it without turning the water off? I also was told sometimes there's a back seat piece and seal or O-Ring that has to be replaced at the back of the stem, but not all of them have that. If you replace both and still get leaks, it's likely a problem in the piping in the walls, and may require access from outside the shower wall, or behind it, which is a much bigger job and I'd call a plumber if so.
“MY MAN”!!....y’all know what it is when a brotha say that lol. Big shout out to the vid n all that love the vid, now the adventure begins in a pandemic 🤦🏽♂️
Good video. No shut off in the house? The faucet dripped for a few seconds after turning the water off because the shut off valves are above the spout and the water in the pipes between the valves and the spout must drain out. Doesn't mean there is a leak.
This didn't work as demonstrated on a Kohler. I had to physically break off the handles and get at it, and the cartridge was 30/32" (or 15/16") so I had to make another trip to the hardware store. The 31/32" might have worked but there was a lot of play and I was afraid of stripping it. Still, the video was a great guide.
Hi, My faucet looks exactly like yours. what model, company is this and what is the model of cartridge that I need please,,I would like to order it before opening it..? thanks
We had the same problem. The only thing is we can hear a hissing sound out of water pressure and we replaced all the cartridges already and still have dripping faucet. The water is cold though.
If your house is old and you replaced the Valve and it still leaks, You will have to replace the pipe itself because they wear out over the years and it is very costly , in most cases you will have to cut into the wall to get to the pipes, I had this issue and it was very costly, had to cut away the tiles to get to the wall, then cut the wall to get to the pipes, Very Big job, and cost a arm and a leg to have it done, there is no way around it,

Hi Matt, I have a single handle shower faucet and like your video shows, the dripping is coming from the bottom. I have changed the cartridge but the dripping continues. When I removed the spout the water is dripping out of the valve from the wall. Is it a cartridge problem still if the water is dripping from the sprout valve?
I really think that my drip could be attributed to the cartridge but like one reply I'm ready to break the handle as it won't budge! Is there anything I can do?
Ok great video but my faucet doesn't have a any corners for me to grip with the socket valve wrench. Mine is completely rounded. How do I get it off???
in a lot of houses isn`t there a shutoff in the basement usually? curious as i have no idea wher emy outside one would be and my basement has all manner of knobs.
Yeah, it's illegal here. Isn't there another way to turn water off just to the tub? My plumber 'fixes' this for me all the time and never turns off the water... maybe why it still leaks year after year after year ...

I replaced all of my valve seats, stems and used sealer. But the pipe to the faucet in my tub is still dropping 😔 What else could it be? We tightened all the parts correctly and checked is it was leftover water in the diverter. I'm at a loss of where the problem is.
I have a question and maybe you'll know the answer. My tub faucet is doing something weird, not quite like this but it thought I'd ask. I turn off the faucet and its fine no water running. Within 10 or 20 minutes I return and it doing a steady drip of hot water. If I turn either faucet on and off again it stops temporarily again. Is this the solution to that as well? Or something different?
Will this also help direct the water to the shower head instead of coming out from the bottom when the showers running. Cause mine is leaking when it's off and a lot comes out from the bottom when the shower is running.
Just curious why didnt you change out the seat? I just did this and didnt replace the seat, as didnt you and your fix worked mine didnt. still leaks, drips its def the cold so think the seat needs changing as well?
