      How do you know if it’s the diverter or the hot/cold water faucet that is causing the leak?

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Is water hot or cold? If warm, it’s your hot water stem. If cold, it’s your cold water stem.
      If water is visibly leaking from diverter or the diverter is performing poorly, we definitely recommend replacing diverter.
      Please keep us posted. Us DIY’ers need to stick together!

    Just an observation, as long as you have the water off you should rebuild both the hot valve and the cold valve. If one side is dripping, chances are the other side will probably start dripping soon. Otherwise, nice video.

    Minor suggestion, one can place a washcloth over the tub drain. That way anything which could be dropped will drop into a place that can be picked up.

      Good morning ☕️
      We will share with you our experience over the years as well as many others.
      We ourselves started out by purchasing tools individually when needed however realized over the years that had we just bought a standard tool set, we would have gotten all the same tools and paid half the price.
      However there are individual tools you will purchase over the years that are not part of tool sets and that’s A-ok…fun for some including us.

    GREAT video! Perfectly done, right to the point, clear view of all the parts, everything explained in an easy to understand way. Thank you for doing this for the rest of us!!! You're really a pro at making these kind of tutorials. I did find it strange, however, that your main water shut off valve was outside. Mine is very easy to reach right inside my house. Hot water seems to be an issue on a lot of the plumbing issues I've had over the years. Seems to leak more on the valves/lines. For instance I install a washer, the hot water line leaks more often or not then the cold...course either I have insufficiently tightened it or added enough teflon. Likewise as in this video my faucet gasket/rings tend to go bad.

      Good morning, it may be as simple as removing old spout and taking it to store to match it up with an exact replacement match spout.
      You can use caulk to create seal around spout once installed.

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kara here
      Thanks for watching & what’s your update? In most cases, it will definitely be inside & in very close proximity to your water softener & pressure tank. You should have 2 separate valves...1 HOT water shutoff valve & 1 COLD water shutoff valve.
      Closing both of these valves should shut off all water to your home. After closing these valves, you can turn your water faucets on at your sinks and tubs and once the water stops coming out... you know you have cut all water from the system.

    I'm here because I too have a leaking bathtub but don't actually care to repair because I'm searching for another apartment, so I'll let my family handle it when they get back. But I do need to turn the hot water off as I can't have that just drizzle. I couldn't find any gauge to turn the water off and then discovered that the water heater had a gauge ontop of it that directed to both hot and cold water, so I just turned that off. Is that okay?
