      What do you suggest for finding a good replacement. I always have issues with the diverter(?) getting stuck either to the shower or tub. It takes less than 1 year before it sticks.

    5:03. What a simple solution to clean caulking. The painter's tape. You've taught such an invaluable tip. I know it's a simple thing, but every person loves a clean caulk and this small tip can change the entire appearance of any project. Thank you. I envy your caulk.

    • @Mohawks_and_Tomahawks
      @Mohawks_and_Tomahawks ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another pro-tip, is to PUSH the caulking gun, not DRAG the caulking gun.
      When you caulk your bathtub, countertops, baseboards, etc, this will give you long, clean, perfect caulk lines every time... and no tape required.

    Thank you for a thorough yet succinct demonstration! I bought a new spout last year because my diverter wasn't working properly. Lots of corrosion inside the old spout. I did not install the new one yet but instead filed down the corroded parts of the old one. Seemed to work fine, but I've noticed lately that I have to file every couple of days LOL. I've been a little nervous to change out the whole thing but I think I'm going to do that next weekend thanks to the confidence you gave me! PS-- love the bonus tip you gave-- that the shower diverter should disengage on its own when the water is turned off; never push it while the water is running.

      @@gabriella2682 not great, but by no fault of the video, I ended up buying both types because I felt a cut out where the screw should go, but when it came time to unscrew I couldn't find one. So I get a strap & hesitantly unscrewed it. Which worked, but when I went to screw the new one on it didn't fit. There was some weird coupling that I couldn't get off, looked rusted in place? I bought wire brushes & wd40 that said wouldn't stain my tub but did. Nothing worked, so I had to call someone after all. But if there wasn't all the extra bs, It would've only taken me 10 minutes. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    @jamesk1543 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just going through watching do it your self video's for fun and see different methods. This was well done, I would add that the Teflon tape should not go on the first thread. It can be cut and cause a clog in your piping. you should also tighten each joint independently. and where possible use a back up. (something to keep the previously tightened joints from moving. the reason for this is to keep a uniformed tightness of the fittings). seems minor but it is important. lastly. If you cut the pipe. be sure to debur the inside as well as the outside. not deburring the inside creates a turbulent flow which escalates erosion. Although I added some points to this the overall of this video is exceptional and appreciated.

    These instructions were great. I replaced one slip-on spout following them and I think it went fine. I just went to replace my other spout with a different kit and it was a bit more involved. I don't think it had an o-ring. It had me put a small piece that the set screw was attached to first, then a compression ring, then a longer piece with a threaded end. After tightening all of those and the set screw I had to put teflon tape on the threaded end and screw the faucet on. I'm guessing this kit was more oriented to thread-on systems and this was basically an adapter.

  • @censored7881
    @censored7881 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice video. Thank you. The one thought I have is that it's possible the spout you're removing is a universal spout, in which case it could actually have been installed as a screw-on, but the presence of the set screw will make you think it's a slip-on. So, you could be tugging outward and/or turning it clockwise in error as you try to remove it. So, to me it makes sense to only turn it counter-clockwise during initial removal if it has a set screw, unless and until you're absolutely sure it really is a slip-on.

Then there was so much hair it prevented it from fully twisting to come out. I'm renting so just cleaning it, but Im going to soak it in vinegar before putting it back, maybe it'll thread correctly when I put it back if I have to clean it again before I move.

My diverter is broken on my facet, and my drain, the cover of it is very rough to touch because I used a harsh cleaner that I should not have. But I noticed the black ring around it, that is probably the washer installed wrong. As far as the facet on your tub being high, I bet they put it that high to prevent little kids hitting their heads.

    I changed my spout out after I tried to repair the diverter by putting in a new gasket but the inside was too rough to make a reliable seal. Fortunately I have the slip on type so it was an easy fix requiring only a hex key to get it done. I much prefer the type of diverter which is in the shower valve as it is more reliable. I have one of those rubber strap type wrenches that I got for about $1 at a yard sale. I hope to be able to use it someday.

    Thanks for the video. I'm going to try this in my daughter's bathroom. Got some matte black hardware to install.

    Having the spout that high is great for having small rambunctious kids take a bath. I remember giving myself a black eye when I was 3 due to the spout being at the standard height.

      personally, I have very specific desires when I take a bath. I take long baths and like to refill the HOT water periodically in my bath. So having access to the the faucet etc is KEY for me. Also my old house the hot and cold were reversed on the single handle.. which is NOT CODE, I realize that but I LIKED that because then I could just trickle the hot water which was a better arrangement

      @@caelidhg6261 Makes good sense if you’re an empty nester. I’m the same way, long hot baths continuously filling with hot water. The best!
