Thats why I feel blessed that I am a Arab and a Arabic speaker who is also muslim. yes Standard arabic is different than the quran but there are like 60-70% similarities also its easy to understand/comprehend new words when you already know the language and actually understanding it makes it really beatiful. Its not even about Arabs, I know some who dont speak arabic yet I met some chinese Muslims in Mecca who spoke clear Arabic to me. Its a blessed and beatiful language and learning it even as a non-Muslim would be nice but its really hard even as a native Speaker I am telling you its hard.

Exactly, even in modern Arabic dialects, the word for the floor is the same as the word for planet earth, and only by looking at the context will you be able to know which one is being talked about.

it's like in french the word "Terre" can either mean the planet, the earth OR it can mean the land on the ground where we stand on our feets. So as a french speaker I never misinterepreted the word "Al arDh" it was indeed kind of logic for me that this ayah was talking about the flatten land where we can walk, build, gardening, etc!...

That is why early Muslims were so persistent to learn about the shape of the earth in the first place and that is why Al Biruni calculated the diameter of the earth so they can direct newly built mosques to precisely directed to Kabah.

@@maestro186 Okay, I got something! At 1:24, Arabic101 was talking about a word "flattened". Now "flat" and "flattened" do not have same meaning. Of course, one is adjective while other is verb, thus have different meaning. However, in geometry, there is a term called "flattening" which is a property of an ellipsoid, not of a flat surface (similar word also used in other languages). Ellipsoids are 3d version of an ellipse, where "flattening" is synonymous to "eccentricity in 3d". If you decrease flattening of an ellipsoid, it become more sphere-like. If you increase flattening of an ellipsoid, it become more flat-like. Now if any two of the axial radius become equal, the ellipsoid will turn into another thing called spheroid. So, maybe the Quran is talking about ellipsoid (or spheroid) earth, which is more accurate description of earth.
Yes it is " spread out ", each time the people spread the sajadah/carpet in the mosque, make me remember this. The soccer ball also make remind about this. The people in Hajj orbiting the Kabah, is like the miniature of the milky way, the spreading galaxy . ❗ Wrong translation in this video. Qu'ran never says the Earth is flat. "Flat" in Arabic is "musattah مسطح" but Qu'ran says "Sateh سطح", it could have ANY SHAPE but unfortunately it was mistranslated to flat. Flat in Arabic is "musattah مسطح" however it was not used in the entire Qur'an. ❗
Even in English "earth" is a synonym for "ground" and "land". there is even such a thing as "poured earth". Poured earth is defined as earthen concrete, fluid, so it cannot be compacted, and has stone aggregate within its composition.

So, does God's saying "He wraps the night over the day" also imply that the sky is spherical? What is the meaning of "yukawir" in the Quran? If you say it means that something becomes spherical, then here you are confirming that the sun is not currently spherical in shape إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ (1) وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ ... So, from the terrors of the Day of Judgment, the sun will be wrapped. Does that mean the sun will become spherical on that day? If so, what is its shape now? The early scholars differed on the shape of the earth, especially after the members of the astronomical body affiliated with the authority reached a consensus on the earth being spherical. Some scholars agreed with the consensus of this body, which translated Ptolemy's Greek book on astronomy, stating that the earth is stationary and the center of the universe, but spherical in shape. Some scholars did not oppose the astronomical body on the earth's sphericity. The issue arises when some mix the consensus of the astronomical body affiliated with the ruling authority with the consensus of religious scholars, mistakenly believing that the members of the body are Islamic scholars. In reality, the astronomical body was under the authority of the ruling power, similar to today's official institutions that echo what NASA says. The scholar who believed the astronomical body would say, "The astronomical body has reached a consensus," not "the scholars have reached a consensus." This scholar would then justify their claim of a spherical earth by saying that this does not necessarily contradict the verses, as the earth appears flat to the observer. There is no verse that explicitly indicates the earth's sphericity. There are other scholars who disagreed with the astronomical body, saying their reference is the Book of God. Among these dissenters was the author of the book "Tafsir al-Khazin," who said : وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ "...and He is the one who spread out the earth, meaning He stretched it over the surface of the water..." until he said, "According to the astronomers, the earth is a sphere, and it can be said that if the sphere is vast and immense, each part of it would appear as if it is stretched out like a large, vast surface. This was the reconciliation made by the astronomers. However, God has informed us that He spread out the earth, shaped it, and stretched it, and all of this indicates the flattening of the earth. And God, the Exalted, is more truthful in speech and clearer in evidence than the astronomers." So, the shape of the earth became a matter of disagreement among scholars, not because the verses were unclear, but due to the influence of the astronomical body members who followed what was found in the translated works of the Greek mathematician and astronomer Ptolemy. As for the stability of the earth and its position as the center of the universe, this was a point of consensus among the scholars, as well as among the members of the astronomical body. There was no disagreement between them on the earth’s stability and centrality.
And also your understanding of the ayah is completely different of what he saying in fact "kwirat" is used because the sun is also round , so you can say every planet like uranus mars earth is also spherical.

He also was a gifted linguist and could speak many of the world's language of his days including arabic, persian, greek and hebrew. He wrote many books including "The History of India" as he traveled to india and spent some of his life there studying and researching the Indian culture and mathematics. Overall the "Islamic Golden Age" had a big impact on the world's, especially Europe's scientific progression and helped europe become what it is now. The word سطحت doesn't mean flattened in early Arabic, Sath, سطح in Arabic is not a shape, it's a place, the upper outside of every shape, or what is translated to "Surface", so the verse means that God has made a surface to the earth, without that surface the earth would be a gas planet like Jupiter.

आपकी बात एकदम सही है इसी तरह सुरह यूसुफ आयत 21,55 में अल अरद का मतलब मिस्र की जमीन है न कि पूरी दुनिया । सुरहः अंबिया में आयत 71, 81 में ज़मीन से मुराद मुल्के शाम की जमीन है । सुरह कसस आयत 4 से 6 में फिरोन जिस ज़मीन पर हुकूमत करता था उसको भी लफ्ज अल अरद कहा । इसी तरह कुरान में बहुत सी आयत में इस लफ्ज के दो मतलब है । एक पूरी ज़मीन और एक जमीन का कोई हिस्सा, देश आदि।

That is not an evidence, because the meaning of that word was misunderstood and played around with. That verse is actually more of an evidence for a flat Earth

If something is true you must find an explanation in Qur'an for that. Actually it does affect the prayer. When you are in north west America, the qibla is north east across the north pole over Europe towards Arabia. Were the earth flat the qibla in Western Canada would be towards south east instead of north east

@@abdohallak قضية خلق السماء أو الأرض أيهما أولا فيه خلاف بين أئمة التفسير منهم من قال الأرض قبل السماء ومنهم من قال السماء قبل الأرض استدلالا بالآية التي في سورة النازعات ومنهم من قال أنهما خلقا مع بعض استدلالا بالآية التي في سورة الأنبياء. وشخصيا أميل إلى رأي خلق السماء قبل الأرض، ليس لأنه هذا ما يقوله علم الفلك. ولكن أرى الآية التي في سورة فصلت دليلا على خلق السماء أولا، فقد استعمل الله عز وجل (ثم استوى إلى السماء وهي دخان) فاستعمال أداة (إلى) يدل على الاتجاه. والاتجاه يلزم وجود الشيء قبله، كأن تقول ذهبت إلى المسجد، فلا يمكنك الذهاب إلى المسجد إلا إذا كان المسجد موجودا. واستعمال لفظ (وهي دخان) يوحي عن طبيعة التي كانت عليها السماء قبل خلق الأرض، أي كانت السماء دخانا ثم فتق الأرض من هذا الدخان (كما جاء في سورة الأنبياء) فخلقت الأرض ثم سوى السماوات ثم دحا الأرض. هذا الرأي ليس من عندي بل وجدته في تفسير القرطبي: وقول قتادة يخرج على وجه صحيح إن شاء الله تعالى ، وهو أن الله تعالى خلق أولا دخان السماء ثم خلق الأرض ، ثم استوى إلى السماء وهي دخان فسواها ، ثم دحا الأرض بعد ذلك .
What about the verse that describes tge heaven as a "building" God created above? The wors used in it is "binaya" and it means building which could be interpreted as the firmament created above the earth

So heaven you are translating, maybe used for like birds flying in heaven, can also be used to refer moon, sun, etc as heaven, space can be called. In Quran, heaven and hell are outside of creation! Qur'an is not a science book. Allah gave the common knowledge and the important knowledge that were necessary for eliminating things like gender bias, dishonesty, and to establish the fact that there is only one God. The science was left for you to discover. Qur'an does mention that everything in this universe is working on specific rules.

And We have decreed set phases for the Moon, until it ends up looking like an old palm spathe. It is not for the Sun to overtake the Moon nor for the night to outstrip the day; each one is swimming in a sphere. (Surah Ya Sin, 38-40) The movements of the Sun and Moon in verse 40 of Surah Ya Sin are described by the Arabic word "yasbahoona," meaning “flowing, passing or swimming.” This word refers to an action performed by someone on their own. Someone acting according to this verb continues to perform it alone, with no intervention from anyone else. The above verses may therefore be referring to the Sun’s independent movement in the universe, independent of any other celestial body. (Allah knows the truth.) It is impossible for us to see or follow the movement of the Sun with our own eyes. It is only possible to determine that movement using special technological equipment. As stated in verse 39 of Surah Ya Sin, in addition to rotating around its own axis once every 26 days, the Sun also moves through its own course. The verse also reports that the Sun is not allowed to “overtake the Moon,” and the Qur’an thus states that the Sun and Moon do not revolve around the same body, as astronomers put it. At the same time, the verse makes it clear that there is no connection between the motion responsible for night and day and the movement of the Sun and Moon. (Allah knows the truth.)"

Thats why I feel blessed that I am a Arab and a Arabic speaker who is also muslim. yes Standard arabic is different than the quran but there are like 60-70% similarities also its easy to understand/comprehend new words when you already know the language and actually understanding it makes it really beatiful. Its not even about Arabs, I know some who dont speak arabic yet I met some chinese Muslims in Mecca who spoke clear Arabic to me. Its a blessed and beatiful language and learning it even as a non-Muslim would be nice but its really hard even as a native Speaker I am telling you its hard.

@@maestro186 Okay, I got something! At 1:24, Arabic101 was talking about a word "flattened". Now "flat" and "flattened" do not have same meaning. Of course, one is adjective while other is verb, thus have different meaning. However, in geometry, there is a term called "flattening" which is a property of an ellipsoid, not of a flat surface (similar word also used in other languages). Ellipsoids are 3d version of an ellipse, where "flattening" is synonymous to "eccentricity in 3d". If you decrease flattening of an ellipsoid, it become more sphere-like. If you increase flattening of an ellipsoid, it become more flat-like. Now if any two of the axial radius become equal, the ellipsoid will turn into another thing called spheroid.
So, maybe the Quran is talking about ellipsoid (or spheroid) earth, which is more accurate description of earth.

Poured earth is defined as earthen concrete, fluid, so it cannot be compacted, and has stone aggregate within its composition.

The verse is clear, as it speaks about the creature of the night and the creature of the day. What does the earth have to do with the behavior of night and day? You might say that night and day rotate around the earth. But who told you that night and day exist only on the earth? Rather, they are heavenly creations

If you say it means that something becomes spherical, then here you are confirming that the sun is not currently spherical in shape

So, from the terrors of the Day of Judgment, the sun will be wrapped. Does that mean the sun will become spherical on that day? If so, what is its shape now?
The early scholars differed on the shape of the earth, especially after the members of the astronomical body affiliated with the authority reached a consensus on the earth being spherical. Some scholars agreed with the consensus of this body, which translated Ptolemy's Greek book on astronomy, stating that the earth is stationary and the center of the universe, but spherical in shape. Some scholars did not oppose the astronomical body on the earth's sphericity. The issue arises when some mix the consensus of the astronomical body affiliated with the ruling authority with the consensus of religious scholars, mistakenly believing that the members of the body are Islamic scholars. In reality, the astronomical body was under the authority of the ruling power, similar to today's official institutions that echo what NASA says.
The scholar who believed the astronomical body would say, "The astronomical body has reached a consensus," not "the scholars have reached a consensus." This scholar would then justify their claim of a spherical earth by saying that this does not necessarily contradict the verses, as the earth appears flat to the observer. There is no verse that explicitly indicates the earth's sphericity. There are other scholars who disagreed with the astronomical body, saying their reference is the Book of God. Among these dissenters was the author of the book "Tafsir al-Khazin," who said :
وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ
"...and He is the one who spread out the earth, meaning He stretched it over the surface of the water..." until he said, "According to the astronomers, the earth is a sphere, and it can be said that if the sphere is vast and immense, each part of it would appear as if it is stretched out like a large, vast surface. This was the reconciliation made by the astronomers.
However, God has informed us that He spread out the earth, shaped it, and stretched it, and all of this indicates the flattening of the earth. And God, the Exalted, is more truthful in speech and clearer in evidence than the astronomers."
So, the shape of the earth became a matter of disagreement among scholars, not because the verses were unclear, but due to the influence of the astronomical body members who followed what was found in the translated works of the Greek mathematician and astronomer Ptolemy. As for the stability of the earth and its position as the center of the universe, this was a point of consensus among the scholars, as well as among the members of the astronomical body. There was no disagreement between them on the earth’s stability and centrality.

He also was a gifted linguist and could speak many of the world's language of his days including arabic, persian, greek and hebrew. He wrote many books including "The History of India" as he traveled to india and spent some of his life there studying and researching the Indian culture and mathematics. Overall the "Islamic Golden Age" had a big impact on the world's, especially Europe's scientific progression and helped europe become what it is now.

The word سطحت doesn't mean flattened in early Arabic, Sath, سطح in Arabic is not a shape, it's a place, the upper outside of every shape, or what is translated to "Surface", so the verse means that God has made a surface to the earth, without that surface the earth would be a gas planet like Jupiter.

If the earth is a sphere and not flat then our Qibla direction will be wrong, while facing the Qibla one will be facing outer space, you can not have a straight line facing Qibla on a spherical earth.

That is not an evidence, because the meaning of that word was misunderstood and played around with. That verse is actually more of an evidence for a flat Earth
We know today that Earth is not flat. The famous islamic astronomers even measured the Earth. If something is true you must find an explanation in Qur'an for that. All other explanations are wrong and misleading. دَحَىٰهَآ is a word which is usled to explain how a ostrich makes its nest (spherical).

Actually it does affect the prayer. When you are in north west America, the qibla is north east across the north pole over Europe towards Arabia. Were the earth flat the qibla in Western Canada would be towards south east instead of north east

@@abdohallak قضية خلق السماء أو الأرض أيهما أولا فيه خلاف بين أئمة التفسير منهم من قال الأرض قبل السماء ومنهم من قال السماء قبل الأرض استدلالا بالآية التي في سورة النازعات ومنهم من قال أنهما خلقا مع بعض استدلالا بالآية التي في سورة الأنبياء.
وشخصيا أميل إلى رأي خلق السماء قبل الأرض، ليس لأنه هذا ما يقوله علم الفلك. ولكن أرى الآية التي في سورة فصلت دليلا على خلق السماء أولا، فقد استعمل الله عز وجل (ثم استوى إلى السماء وهي دخان) فاستعمال أداة (إلى) يدل على الاتجاه. والاتجاه يلزم وجود الشيء قبله، كأن تقول ذهبت إلى المسجد، فلا يمكنك الذهاب إلى المسجد إلا إذا كان المسجد موجودا. واستعمال لفظ (وهي دخان) يوحي عن طبيعة التي كانت عليها السماء قبل خلق الأرض، أي كانت السماء دخانا ثم فتق الأرض من هذا الدخان (كما جاء في سورة الأنبياء) فخلقت الأرض ثم سوى السماوات ثم دحا الأرض.
هذا الرأي ليس من عندي بل وجدته في تفسير القرطبي: وقول قتادة يخرج على وجه صحيح إن شاء الله تعالى ، وهو أن الله تعالى خلق أولا دخان السماء ثم خلق الأرض ، ثم استوى إلى السماء وهي دخان فسواها ، ثم دحا الأرض بعد ذلك .

The wors used in it is "binaya" and it means building which could be interpreted as the firmament created above the earth
In Quran there is no Heaven in sky! Also, sky refers to anything above Earth circle. So heaven you are translating, maybe used for like birds flying in heaven, can also be used to refer moon, sun, etc as heaven, space can be called. In Quran, heaven and hell are outside of creation! Therefore, there is no heaven in this universe. Idk what you even talk about

Did Muhammad and his god not know that the earth is spinning? *Not once in the entire Quran did Muhammad ever declare that OUR EARTH IS SPINNING. Not once! Instead we get strange verses like, "A token unto them is night. We strip it of the day, and lo! they are in darkness and the sun runs on unto a resting-place for him. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Wise. And for the moon We have appointed mansions till she return like an old shriveled palm-leaf. It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor doth the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit. (Quran, 36:37-40). Muhammad does NOT MENTION that the Earth he stands upon is also in orbit! Muhammad did not know this, so then neither did his god. And where exactly is this "resting place" of the sun that Muhammad speaks of?*
Qur'an is not a science book. Allah gave the common knowledge and the important knowledge that were necessary for eliminating things like gender bias, dishonesty, and to establish the fact that there is only one God.
The science was left for you to discover. Qur'an does mention that everything in this universe is working on specific rules.

In particular, consider this verse: "Hast thou not turned thy vision to thy Lord?- How He doth prolong the shadow! If He willed, He could make it stationary!" Quran 25:45-46. Allah could have mentioned that we get the lengthening of shadows PRECISELY BECAUSE THE EARTH IS SPINNING. But Allah doesn't do that. Allah also talks about the orbits of the moon and the sun, but does not talk about the orbit of the very Earth that you stand upon. Muhammad did not know that Earth is in orbit; so then neither did his allah.

In the above verse the movement of the Earth is described by the word “yukawwiru,” which comes from root verb “takwir,” meaning “to cover up a spherical body,” in the way that the rotation of the Earth gives rise to night and day, like the winding of a turban. In addition to the spherical shape of the Earth the word is also the most accurate expression of its movement around the Sun. Because of the Earth’s spherical shape and its movement around the Sun, the Sun always illuminates one side of the Earth while the other is in darkness. The side in shadow is shrouded by the darkness of night, to be replaced by the brightness of day when the Sun rises. The positions of the Sun and Earth are revealed as follows in Surah Ya Sin:
And the Sun runs to its resting place. That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing. And We have decreed set phases for the Moon, until it ends up looking like an old palm spathe. It is not for the Sun to overtake the Moon nor for the night to outstrip the day; each one is swimming in a sphere. (Surah Ya Sin, 38-40)
The movements of the Sun and Moon in verse 40 of Surah Ya Sin are described by the Arabic word "yasbahoona," meaning “flowing, passing or swimming.” This word refers to an action performed by someone on their own. Someone acting according to this verb continues to perform it alone, with no intervention from anyone else. The above verses may therefore be referring to the Sun’s independent movement in the universe, independent of any other celestial body. (Allah knows the truth.) It is impossible for us to see or follow the movement of the Sun with our own eyes. It is only possible to determine that movement using special technological equipment. As stated in verse 39 of Surah Ya Sin, in addition to rotating around its own axis once every 26 days, the Sun also moves through its own course.
The verse also reports that the Sun is not allowed to “overtake the Moon,” and the Qur’an thus states that the Sun and Moon do not revolve around the same body, as astronomers put it. At the same time, the verse makes it clear that there is no connection between the motion responsible for night and day and the movement of the Sun and Moon. (Allah knows the truth.)"
