- Hey guys, I hope this finds you all well. Here's my first impressions of the new ME-90 from BOSS. I've always enjoyed this series of multi fx as they are so simple to use and very intuitive, as I say in the video it's like having a bucket of pedals all crammed into 1 place but you can conveniently save all the settings of them.... Super cool.

Just to be clear in this demo I was plugged in direct into my sound card (DAW) and exclusively using the amp modelling. Of course this can be turned off and you can use it through your regular amp as a multi fx too. Perhaps I can show this use case in another video.......

I know it's not proper but I press like on Alex's videos before watching it. Speaking of ME-90, it's a continuation of a great formula. In a market saturated with 'high-tech' touchscreen-based gadgets, the ME stands out as approachable and sensible. ME-90 is going to carry that on.

The drop tune system seems to me to be more accurate than the existing one on the GX100.

Thanks for this. Most people don't show you the delays and modulation stuff. I also wanted to know what the drop tuning sounds like. Plus, I was curious if this version has a better Expression pedal. It looks like it does. As much as I'm trying to talk myself out of it, I will most likely be getting one. Just when I think I'm out! Boss is wearing me out. lol!
You DO know I don't just want this, I NEED IT! It is way awesome! And more my style, not so GT-1000 but right up that alley!
Great demo, great player, really nice multi effects unit. Most importantly, I noticed the ac booster (xotic effects) pedal in the ‘bucket of pedals’ at the start of the video.
It’s the most important pedal I’ve ever bought.
Also Alex, your playing with Steven Wilson was absolutely amazing. You are a world class player for sure.
It was your demo of the ME-25 and GT-1 that sold me the last time around. Kinda working again because I am seriously considering getting this.

Such a detailed review, thank you for putting this together! I had one question: does a recorded phrase loop carry over in memory mode if i change from preset 1 to 2 or 3, if all are configured to have a phrase looper?

Really interesting to hear the shimmer on your vid, since in another video the reverb section was shown as only room/hall/spring, but I see the shimmer isn't in the reverb block. With the new ME and GX-100 having arrived... I'm thinking it's time to start saving for a forthcoming GT-1000 successor that'll be along any day.

Many years ago I used to run an ME-5 with a Marshall JCM 900.......I don't have the 900 any more but I do have a couple of amps that this, with the 4-cable method, could blow my tiny mind.

Freeze, shimmer and drop tune are worthy additions fair play. Theres usually a pedal or two i have to use with boss units but this seems to do it all.

@@alanredversangelThe fact they added a line in for direct and no need for dummy plug in headphones out as the ME80 needs is killer. Seems they concentrated on what needed fixed or upgraded. The amps sound better. I'd say the Xamps they call which are boss amps sound better here than the amps they modeled. Plus IR support. It's legit. I'm just not sure they built this one as robust I'll need to see. Anyway I still love my me80.
It IS tempting I think we agree there😂 the new amp algorithms and i.r support got me excited, with the reverb parameters were a bit more detailed though

This in front of a clean Blackface is about all you need, no masses of pedals to set up, and a clean hum free signal chain. Should be perfect with my PRS Sonzera. Killer demo, Alex, please dive deeper into this unit!

Good video.. I want to see and hear the amps that have the AIRD in them.. That's what interests me as well as the IR's.. Thanks so much Alex.. Appreciate it.. I have the me70 and love it, and being 62 this is a god send for people like me that don't want to become electronic engineers and program electronics, but would rather play and it sound good. I can't use an amp at most places I play, so a multi effects with good amps and effects is a must.. I may go to the GT Core if it has micro pitch, otherwise, it will be this..

my opinion is a cropped version of the gt-1000, but the effects with effects control are brought to the panel for the convenience of working on stage, the sound is the same, but the possibilities are slightly less than in the gt-1000

Had the boss gx-100. waaaay too options... I just want maybe a few amps and a bunch of standard pedals, to eventual add a couple of specific pedals. I kinda like the retro look too, no bullshit lights, looks coming out of a 90s cyber punk movie LOL. Straight to the point, I don't need 100 amps and Its great to actually have hands on parameter for effects. I'll probably wait for a second-hand unit, but this is gonna be very convenient.

I notice Alex had the "Hand of God" patch on throughout! I wonder if that comes as standard', or does it kick in magically after ten thousand hours of practice is detected?
I'd love to see how far you can take the pitch shifting on this. Like can you go to drop F on a drop A guitar convincingly? Maybe thomann has a demo unit and I can try it out.

Hi there you did a great job reviewing the Boss 90ME.. my Gamma-G-50 does not have a designated effects return on my amp… Does the Boss-90 ME have a way to turn off my amp speaker so I won’t have an amp that sounds like I stacked two Cabs on one another?

This has a handful of effects not found in the AIRD modelers so I’m really hoping those get added.
So some new features over the 80. Drop tune, shimmer, feedback, and a couple new drives; a Klon and a Rat. And a bunch of new amp models. Plus the effects loop and Bluetooth capability are nice features.
My big question is have they updated the sound quality? I had the 80 and I loved the layout but the amps were mediocre at best and the drives sounded straight up crappy. The 90 sounds better on video but I wanna try one in person.
The Tune Down function would be very useful

Bought one today, I as going to buy an me80 a month or 2 ago but it never happened, then these got release, I would be one of the first to have these in Australia, they hit the shelves only a day or so ago.

Good one. May I know the amp you are using? I have preordered ME90 and wondering if new fender GTX-100 is a good one to connect to this. Should I consider blues jr toes Ampa?
Hi Alex! Thank you , your demos are always insightful ! I find it amazing that Boss can release multi effects pedals that are less than 1,000 dollars that do so much. I know that The neural quad cortex and line 6 helix are different beasts but as someone who would use it for distortion, delay, down tuning, as well as trying to get a Djent / prog metal tone for 7 string guitar do you think this unit is capable of that sound?
Sorry if that's a difficult question 😅! I'm looking to get a multi fx for recording and playing at home and I think the expensive models like Quad cortex might be way too much when I'm not playing live at the moment. Anyway, your playing is amazing and thank you for providing so much detail and showcasing the pedals with some lovely and mind blowing 🤯 guitar playing! Very exciting and makes me want to go practice :)

Can the tap tempo be used with all the delay modes or just the standard digital delay ??
Rookie question.... what amp would match up to this best? Needing to be loud in a garage not a gymnasium, metal/rock is the preferred style. Have a bc rich warlock and a jackson guitar for now. Not worried about price. Any recommendations will be welcome. Thanks.

I wasn't expecting this one from BOSS... it looks like a very compact, practical and useful pedal for the everyday gig... 4 patches per bank, manual mode at just one foot press... I noticed that it has just a few revs but they will surely work very well... not IR loading or stuff but still sounding good which is the most important thing at the end of the day. Very good demo, awesome playing as always! Take care mate!
Actually, you can load up to 3 IRs on this one.
