Passing the Gleemox was actually a mistake. I got so excited to see academy I snapped it off and then was like "oh wait, was there a Gleemox in that pack". Damn ;). It just looks so much like chrome mox to me.
cool to hear what actually happened. academy was actually so sick in your deck so it might have made sense - but passing gleemox in a team draft makes it less sweet.
@@stefanisenberger2252 Mirage Mirror copies Time Vault. Activate Mirror, taking another turn. Mirror stops being a Time Vault when your turn ends, so it gets to untap as normal, allowing you to repeat the process again and again.
@stephanisenberger2252 you have both in play, with TV presumably tapped, and MM untapped. You pay to make MM a copy of TV, then tap it for an extra turn. On your extra turn, MM is no longer a copy of TV so it untaps as normal. Repeat as many times as you like
yea i indeed wanted blink the palace jailer and the reason i went for guide over ocelot after upheavel was that my oppo was tapped out so couldnt counter guide which was more important also why i did solitude in my own turn not hitting retrofitter was indeed also a mistake
1:13:40 it is actually exponential, just a bit misleading in the fact that the exponent is somewhere between 1 and 2 rather than being 2 or above, which means that it increases much slower than the things we would normally look at and describe as exponential growth.
Thank you! I was looking for this :D So, let's say we play suboptimally: we tap our Academy 5 times for a total of 5X mana where X is the number of artifacts. We then make tokens for 5 mana each, meaning that we make X tokens. In essence, we're doubling our artifacts each turn This means that we do go exponentially with a lower bound of Xo*2^Y, where Xo is the number of artifacts we start with and Y is the number of turns. If we play optimally, we get an even better rate.
Note that OP is still right even if we can tap Academy only once, assuming we have 5 mana each turn to start with. If we have X artifacts, then we can make up to 0.2X tokens (5 mana for any token), and we're guaranteed to make at least one token. By the end of the turn, we have (1+c)*X tokens, where c>0 (because we make at least one token) and c1, meaning that we have exponential growth even in this case. It's probably very slow at the start, but as X becomes larger, (1+c) is going to approach 1.2 (I'll leave the formal proof out for now) and you'll have exponential growth of the form Xo*1.2^Y
Best griselbrand deck on this channel in a long while… the odds of this deck winning with a two card combo after drawing 14 cards has gotta be scarily close to 100%
One of the very best videos on the channel. Loved the other matches you commented as well ! Btw, adding commented matches could be a nice way to lengthen the "dud " short drafts as well (even if it's not something you can do all the time I guess)
Saheeli is also a decent combo with time vault. Not an instant win, but 2 extra turns when saheeli is a decent card already converts often to a W. Merry Christmas Luis and everyone!
haven't even watched the video yet, but no, the video "It Actually Doesn't Get More Busted Than This" will forever be the best combo deck you ever drafted
Nah, I think mono black storm from 2-4 years ago (I'm at the point in life where time has condensed to one big blob obviously) is still the all timer cube deck or maybe one of those early fastbond draw 7 decks, or sige gang commander storm
Great analysis, thank you! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
At 1:29:26, I thought you had a high chance for the win in hand there? Consultation for the key, 2 mana from sunburst to play and use the key's ability would mean infinite turns if I'm not mistaken?
He had the read that opponent was on a 2-mana counterspell of some kind. He went for the same play a bit later after failing to find more disruption or redundancy.
@@_pj7346 the counterspells that bounce his card to hand don't matter in end step, the no more lies can be payed for on either piece, and force seems unlikely.
Definitely a sweet deck but dont think its the best you've ever had. Really needed more tutors, discard/counters, and card draw. This deck where you have two less two card combos but get a tutor, another discard spell, mana leak, and a preordain would be considerably better. When you have this many disparate combos that dont overlap you're expected to have quite a few games where you just draw the wrong halves of the combos. Now actually getting the deck i describe would be quite a feat, but i feel like you have had some decks like that in your long and storues cube career.
Sick deck. I would have picked up a Tamiyo over Urtai I think. Tamiyo is busted with lotus (t1 land lotus Tamiyo get back lotus), it also lets you dig aggressively for combo pieces. Tamiyo also lets you regrowth a combo if it gets disrupted. Also Tamiyo is a combo with demonic consultation: consult for Thoracle, Tamiyo back consult, play Thoracle, consult again.
End of m2g3: you can tell lsv plays a ton of cube and vintage because he seems to intuitively know that Consulting before or after the Robber trigger has the same number of fail cases and doesn't even mention it as a decision point. It took me a pause and a minute or two of thinking to get past "isn't 6/30 a lower brick rate than 6/29?"
Knowing that your teammate saw one of the good reanimate cards you opened 3rd pick, would there be any consideration to taking emrakul and hoping the thoughtseize makes it to them? Or was the Emrakul/Thoughtseize pack just too weak for that?
I REALLY respect the disciplined team drafting as early as P1P3. I would have been so tempted by the Emrakul, partly because it's my favorite creature, and partly because it's the best Breach creature, but that Thoughtsieze pick worked out nicely for your deck.
I actually don't think this deck is very good... I drafted this style of deck dozens of times in the NHB vintage cube and having 8 2-card combos with 0 tutors is not a good place to be. Even a humble wishclaw talisman or imperial seal would've been insane and improve consistency tenfold. I would've preferred to drop 2 combos and pick up a couple of tutors and the mana to cast them.
Unpopular opinion, but one I specifically came looking for because I agree. "I drafted eight different combos and no tutors and marginal interaction" feels like a huge slip from the kind of high level content I used to watch LSV for. This deck could (should) have gone 1-2.
Funny thing at 40:09, the consultation could never have resolved if Thassas Oracle did, as you would have won as soon as Thassas Oracles ability resolved. :) (Unless they managed to kill her for 0 mana I guess with the ability on the stack?)
I took a break from mtg for a while and I’m seeing these mh3 cards for the first time. 🤦🏻♂️ Jesus Christ the power level on these creatures is so stupid
Like with Lurrus and other companions having an extra card at the start of every game is the important part you didn’t mention. You always have it, it can’t be discarded, pitches to blue and red pitch cards which is actually a big deal with cards like Fury, and unlike the other companions has zero opportunity cost to add to the deck, etc. It’s still average most of the time but it’s far more than just an expensive copy spell and it can be strong in the right decks.
@@Nightwishmaster Yeah the cost is split too. Doesn't mean its not still average, even being a "free" card. I was simply agreeing with LSVs current appraisal of the card.
Title is misleading because I still remember good ol "the 3-0, 6-0 is guaranteed but whats the over under on the number of turns?" Still a silly combo deck here though.

I guessed as much - Gleemox is surprisingly easy to skip over when scanning a pack.
It's not a card that your brain is "trained" to zero in on, unlike conventional Power.
To be fair, with all the explosive combos LSV had, Lotus was marginally better for his deck
Passing Mirage Mirror while talking about not getting anything that combos with vault.
