    I'll add to my prior comment: Knobs are what everyone misses on a lot of things; not just effects pedals, but cars, too. So frustrating to not have a volume knob on the dash!

    I'm familiar with the ME-80. It's easy to get to the sounds you need so you can play instead of menu scroll. The ME-90 adds great updates while retaining what made the ME-80 a great tool.

      The more I learn about it, the more I think I'll trade in my ME80 for one. Seems like a worthwhile upgrade. I'd also say it's worth downloading the manual and parameter PDF's from the Boss website to get a better understanding of the capabilities. Anyone already familiar with the ME80 will be in very familiar territory. One thing I was happy to see was the ability to pick where in the signal chain the send-return can be placed. My ME 80- was until recently gathering dust on a shelf, but I pulled it out when I picked up a Roland JC-22 amp and a Bigshot AB splitter, now running my main pedal board via the A signal to a Traynor 15W tube amp, and sending the B signal, via the ME80 as a stereo signal, to the JC22. Some cool sounds being created, especially with effects like Tera-Echo taking adavantage of the stereo output, and the amps placed on opposite sides of the room.

    John, thanks for doing this. I have one on order. I'm almost 65 years old. I like knobs! I also have 5 Fender amps, so I really don't care about amp models. This unit, for $350, should be able to take the place of all those damn pedals, and eliminate all those unreliable patch cables. My personal experience with the model units is that the factory settings are mostly geared to heavy metal, which I don't play. It's nice to hear you get some pleasant tones out of this unit.

      Don't toss all of the cables yet. This one will do the 4 cable method and I'm very inerested in trying the ME-90 that way. Suggestion: If you giveon a test run, try plugging the ME-90 into the Loop Return, which bypasses the the amp preamp. This allows you to use the ME-90 preamps. I've ot an ancient ME-80 and use it this way sometimes. Gotta tell you, the ME-80 amps really do solund better this way.

    Thank you very much John, multi effects never really pleased me until recently. As I have had a few long years on this planet, I have seen reality transform the digital world into something very different from many years ago. I recently bought the ME 90. I've had several previous models and always ended up selling them because the high gain amplifier emulations were always disappointing. But with the ME 90 and some extra IR I'm really impressed and satisfied. By the way, you are an extremely talented musician, and I can feel the love you have for music. Your channel is inspiring and your reviews of this new digital technology have been very important in my transition. But in the end what really matters is being able to see in your videos that with love, sweat and dedication we can always improve. Thank you very much for your time and dedication sharing your knowledge.

    I only lasted a year with a Helix, before selling it in frustration. Ordered an ME-90; it seems similar to a Katana and the old Boss Cube series, both of which I gigged extensively. Not tube amp nirvana, but close enough for the typical club gig.

    I bought one. It sounded kind of crappy out of the box running into the front of my amp. I now like it after using it with the 4 cable method. Finally sounds natural - and no more menu diving.
    The Boss editor is terrible and was difficult to install - but you have to have it to change the position of the send/return block to use the 4-cable method properly. Excellent value for money.

Just what you need sometimes instead of menus and compexity. I am already using it regularly for just playing in the house. Good value for money and well worth the investment. Im giggimg the ME80. Simple. Robust. Modifiable under stress. Tactile intuitive knobs acting logical. Built like a tank. One simple power line. No cables that can fail. No complex menus. Direct access to all sound parameters. No menu hassle on stage. More versatile and more reliable and way way way cheaper than my pedalboard (comp, sd1, ds1, Blues Screamer, Unobtanium, TCe flashback, hall of fame, looper, palmer pocket amp). Lighter. If it would break replacing would set me back max 200 euros. Soundwise in live setting indistinguisable from pedals. Interacts good with amp. Also could go stereo in PA system as backup. Used it as sound card in studio work. Aux in for training and playing along backing tracks. Brilliant thing and very very very relevant. Using a simple cheap Mooer Red Truck as backup, lying around in my car or the band bus. Is all I need.

    For live use, the most realistic IR is your guitar amp's speaker and a microphone. Plug the ME-90 into your amp's mono or stereo effects return. Or bypass the preamps entirely and go into a clean pedal platform amp. This is the perfect unit for those who hate menu diving.

    Thanks for the really excellent and professional video.
    I bought a Valeton GP 200 from Andertons just after they came out at the end of 2022. It was an excellent piece of kit and I enjoyed using it even though I felt that the learning curve was quite high and it wasn't particularly intuitive. So when I first saw the Boss ME 90 at £300 it quickly became a must have. Andertons offered me a decent part exchange price on the Valeton and included a free 9v power supply for the Boss, so a no brainer for me.
    I have only had it a couple of weeks so very much early days but I'm loving it. I'm finding very easy to build my own tones using the er.....knobs (YEY!!!!!!!) and finally feel confident enough to part with my old pedal board. These days I hardly ever gig, mainly just playing on my own or jamming with friends but the ability to run off batteries has opened up the possibility of doing a bit of electric busking. In summary, it ticks all the boxes for me, it sounds great, it's very versatile and I'm loving it.

    seeing everything you’ve purchased-because of the text labels. With a touch-screen interface it’s a lot
    less tangible, ironically.

    The BE-5 was my first foray into the world of multi effects. I replaced it with an ME-50, which I used for quite a few years. I quite liked it. I never used presets, always operating it in manual mode. Then I was bitten by the pedal bug, having been convinced by ‘influencers” that pedals would led to tone nirvana. I have a nice collection, yet nirvana remains elusive. LOL what I miss about the ME-50 was the simplicity. This unit sounds great, and at this point in my life, its simplicity is very appealing! Thanks for the demo!

    I use it entirely in Manual mode, it's so easy to change stuff that multiple presets aren't that helpful. I like how instant it is to get what you want, set the dials for the effect at 12 and turn it on and you will get a very good sound straight out. They have setup their effects SO well for this. If it's not quite right, maybe modulation is too fast, it's so instant to tweak the rate knob. I use compressor as small boost for clean, a clean amp sim with some gain for push and then OD for lead. (yeah drive your amp with an amp sim, why not! just another gain/distortion source) It really drives a valve amp very nicely like that, 3 levels of drive at your ... toetips.

    I think an interesting thing is that this is the only thing you can get under $500 USD, let alone under $400 USD that is using Pro-tier modeling effects, as it's using the updated modeling from the GT1000. The cheapest thing using Line6's effects is the Pod Go for $200 more. It's the same algorithms that stadium touring bands are using, but for $350.

    • @aaronwalker5493

    • @TheDilligan
      @TheDilligan 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aaronwalker5493 I'd say it's cheaper and that is definitely better. Otherwise they are both very good, both use top-tier sounds, and both face limitations that are helpful to beginners and possibly cumbersome to pros.

      @@TheDilligan thanks for the reply man! only reason why I'm still considering is that line 6 pod go comes with multiple well known amps built-in such as Revv. looks like boss have few amps. is that a deal breaker?

    • @TheDilligan
      @TheDilligan 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aaronwalker5493 To me, not really, because I typically find one amp I like and just use that all the time. But it is true that you are getting more effects from the pod go, but that does come at extra cost.
      Line6 has dsp limits though too. Depending on what you are using, you may not be able to use all the effects you want to use at once. I had one shortly before returning it and ultimately getting an HX Stomp a while back. When I layered an amp with the Transistor Tape Delay and Hot Spring reverb, it used so much dsp that I couldn't add much else.
      Like I said, both units have limitations that might bother a pro. But I do think those limitations are beneficial to a beginner. If you gave a helix to a beginner, they'd struggle to make a tone because it's just an empty sanbox where you could do anything. But for a pro who knows what they are doing, that's what you want.
      As far as limitations go, I do like the Boss ME series just because it feels like you are opperating an analog unit and the price is great. It's fun to turn knobs.

    Because I have been getting down with my me-80 for 3 years. It's perfect for busking. It's sitting in with the band it plays the five or six sounds that I use live. While I do actually bring my foot pedals as a backup, this thing is sturdy and it set by the aunt that I'm playing through. My super reverb deluxe has it's settings. Change Banks and my frontman 212 has it settings. I have a bank for when I'm playing directly into the PA and I even have a bank set for when I'm playing using the speakers in my car. I didn't even know how to use IRS and I have never downloaded any. Most of those are for heavy metal anyway and there are other guitar sounds besides distortion. I am mainly a pop and blues so I just use a little overdrive. I have never tried to record with it so I don't know what it would sound like in headphones. But if you're playing with a band.... it is the Shiznit. So I can't wait to try the ME 90.

      LOL, good question. AIRD improved nothing lol. Even BOSS GT1000 which have better sample rates and ad da conectors didnt improve anything, so that means ME90 is worse. I had Boss gt10, bought is when it was 500 euros in Europe, and I hate it, 4 years I could build decent hard and heavy sound, amp emulations still sounds "plastic" like from 90s with all those multi TOYS processors like Zoom, first units of Boss etc. Now I could hear my Boss gt10 in ME90 and in GT1000 so that means nothing changed really, its just new fske name AIRD sound technology but all I could hear is COSM MODELING FROM 80s 🤣 I really thought Boss will finally learn the lesson and build something different from the scrach feom Boss GT100 which was identical like my Boss gt10 but they just put one more 0 and change the color of unit, put 2 screens and everything was the same sound wise 🤣😂 Today ots ghe same bloody thing with BOSS GT1000 GX AND ME90. Boss have the worst amp emulstions on the market and almost the best choruses and delays.Dont buy it, better buy Chinese company product Hotone Ampero, it has amazing amp emulstions and its cheap, I have it now or amazing NUX 30 multieffect processor, even cheaper and sounds are 5 times better than this me90 shit. I hope I helped you. :)
