Where l am in TN the woodies are here all year long. Yes, they do what they want when they want. There is no rhyme or reason to them. They rarely work with the wind, difficult to decoy but not impossible. Less is more as far as decoys go. And yes you should use woodie decoys. They are kind of a snobby species of duck. They will mingle with other species but along the outer edges of the other birds. You need lots of movement on the water. I have found pulsators and jerk rigs work well for them. You can call them in, but again they do not respond like a mallard to a wood duck call. But its worth the money to get a woodie call. They are pretty inexpensive. Also, if you want more wood ducks on that pond, plant some pin oak trees around it where they will drop the acorns into the water. Woodies love pin oak acorns.
You’re right. I’m from Southern Alabama just about all we have around here is wood ducks. The most successful thing I’ve used to make them come in is a call. They don’t decoy very well like other ducks do.
Here in South Carolina woodies do what they want. Go to the ducks because they aren't coming to you. I know because I've hunted them for 30 years. Great video. Keep'em coming.
Josh I love your videos! I've been following your journey from the beginning. Every time I see you've dropped a new video is a good day in my books, keep it brother I'm rooting for ya!
Still waiting for woodies here in south Texas. I've seen a few but not the numbers we usually have in December. Jerk rig with just a half dozen decoys is all you need for wood ducks.
We take them for granted here, but they are absolutely gorgeous birds . If not for the wood duck, we wouldn’t have ducks in central NC. Headed to Nebraska this year 🤞🏽
The wood ducks your seeing in Missouri is probably one I shot at lol I have a spot in MN that is stacked and went yesterday and there were no birds anywhere
The only wood ducks I’ve killed have landed in a small puddle away from the decoys. I’ve heard a lot of people having hard times with them landing in decoys but apparently they hang out with mallards a lot? If someone could give me info on that please
Set up on the food had one hunt where i set a ground blind up 30 yards from the water because the ducks were just walking out of the pond to the acorns so i set up on the acorns and hunted them like a big buck

Scouting for woodies is very important, the decoys seem to matter very little when you are where they want to be
Wood duck love falling tree and have some wood duck decoy help bring them in to the decoy
The wood ducks your seeing in Missouri is probably one I shot at lol I have a spot in MN that is stacked and went yesterday and there were no birds anywhere
Here in Alabama our woodies rarely land in the spread, a bunch of decoys tend too flare them, I barely use decoys and kill plenty
In this area of KY the wood ducks avoid mallard decoys and always land away from them.
I’m in the Midwest too man. I haven’t killed a wood duck in 2 duck season. Love wood ducks though
What choke and shot size would you recommend for woodies?
Mid and 4s
Jerk rig is the way to go for woodies!!!!
U need to put your decoys in a u shapes pattern
Less is more works for us alot, spinners and motion is big too.
Teal decoys amd spinners amd water motion
Down here in Arkansas you’d think wood ducks was the state bird lol. Only allowed 2 though. Pretty ducks Forsure
There’s still woodies in wi
Do you have a link for the blind?

my advice from woodduck central, 4 woodie decoys on a jerk rig. nothing more
Wood ducks do what they want. Hard to decoy them.
Was coming to comment the same thing 100 percent accurate
They don’t like spinners and love movement decoys
Hunt them in a field and you’ll think otherwise. They decoy easy then, but on water yes they’re hard to decoy.
@@savagemolonlabe9234they love the spinner around here,. They dive on top of it
What headlamp is that?
Looks like Milwaukee brand
No decoys
If you want wood ducks come to Georgia. Thats just about all you will see
Tree merg? Pretty sure that's a hooded merganser not a wood duck.
Set up on the food had one hunt where i set a ground blind up 30 yards from the water because the ducks were just walking out of the pond to the acorns so i set up on the acorns and hunted them like a big buck
I want a sponsorship with rogers lucky dog
Herding cats hunting wood ducks.
