This is ridiculous. I don’t hate the actress, she only did a job she was told to do, she didn’t write her character. It’s the writers themselves who do the work and then direct the actors. Everyone is being so judgmental before the story is even over. The bullying needs to stop. If a character like Reva is despicable, it’s not Moses’ fault.
Agree in part. First off, through 2 episodes, while not bad, the series has been boring so far. Four episodes left so plenty of time to get better (though I have my doubts). Re: Moses Ingram, she has not been good delivering the lines. She comes across as stiff and not intimidating in the least. As much as I think her acting is subpar (though the directing has to take a bit of criticism for that as well), the character has been given some of the worst dialogue that even great acting couldn't save. Ingram didn't help herself by trying to build this character up to being something unique in the Star Wars universe because she's black. Still, that doesn't absolve the small pocket of idiots out there. The problem becomes that, the more you highlight their behavior, the more they'll keep on singing the same song. Best bet is to ignore the trolls/idiots but also be open to true criticism as well. But Disney, STOP trying to paint everyone that has a problem with this character as racist. You look foolish and dishonest doing that.
EVEN IF you dont like the actor for whatever reason, racial abuse is inexcusable, there is no justification or reasonable explanation for it whatsoever.
It doesn't matter if you don't like the character. Disney Star Wars committee already stated that you're automatically a racist if you criticize her in any way. Funny that's Disney Star Wars care about black people yet they paint her as a stereotype angry black woman and let's not forget the shrunk Finn from the poster for China.
No matter how one feels about the character, this behavior in personally attacking the actor is unacceptable. A Jedi uses their power for knowledge and defense, never attack. Here to show support for Moses.
What a jedi does is go into hiding when they fail. Whether it's Dagobah, Tatooine, or Ach-To. Running away and turning into a hermit is basically part of the Jedi code at this point .
@@TiredOfHumans That's exactly what I meant. I don't know how people get so pissed about it. Same characters are written to be annoying. Also there is something called character development in Ahsoka's case. It's the same with Obi-Wan. They are mad that he sucks now but it would be one boring show if he would master any challenge right off the bat. Also it would be weird if he still kicks ass just like in Episode III and then almost another decade later he and Vader fight like they are drunk or under the influence with their slow pace final fight.
Ahsoka also had multiple seasons to grow and develop as a character where as Reva only has 3 more episodes and then that’s it. Unless there’s a huge time jump and an 80’s training montage for her. It will be hard to recover a poorly written character and it’s sad to see
This doesn’t just apply to Star Wars either. Wyatt Russel, the actor who played John Walker (U.S. Agent) in the MCU had so many people harassing him because of the character he played. It’s just sad that people overlook that the actor and the character are NOT the same person.
We don't care about that cause he's a straight white male. He doesn't hit any check boxes we can exploit publicly to defend our shows bad writing or characters.
@@jotaux3652 Yep, there’s lots of toxic fans out there. For some reason these people can’t distinguish a character from an actual person. I don’t know how it’s even possible, but it’s something that happens nowadays.
Unfortunately most people live in fantasy worlds today and believe outlandish things to suit their goals. There are many many examples of this. For Example; people still believe to this day JFK wasn't assassinated and believe he's in a retirement home somewhere in the US. It's totally unsuprising people can't distinguish between actor and reality.

Is the character meant to be corny? Anakin was a socially awkward kid that didn't have good people skills. His performance was great and made so much sense. She, on the other hand, has a character that is already had some corny lines while also delivering them in strange ways. Since when are we not allowed to dislike actors and actresses for their performances?
@@jackfoudray you can dislike the actors and performances in shows and movies of course, just don’t go out of your way to bully them or throw racial slurs at them in her comment sections for being told to play a character a certain way
Thanks for keeping it classy dude. I strongly dislike Reva as a character (I think she is written very badly, but I'll withhold judgment till the show is finished), but that is in no way the actress's fault. If anything, she's the biggest victim of the situation. She gets offered a breakout starring role in freaking Star Wars and then is handed an annoying unlikable character to portray. That would be so horribly disappointing.
Yeah, she probably wasn’t the best fit for the role (and the writing really doesn’t help) but it’s not her fault they put her on screen. I think her acting makes the character even worse, but that’s not her fault. It’s the show runners. Criticisms should be aimed behind the camera, not in front
I feel like the dislike for Reva is actually an intentional part of the character's design. She even annoys her coworkers. It's like she has big Wrestling Heel energy. I want to see where they go with it.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. The color of her skin (or in the SW universe, alien race) is utterly irrelevant. So kudos for recognizing that too!
I’ll never understand why people harass the actor I mean what are you gaining from it? Even as someone who hates the sequels with a passion I really feel bad about for some of the actors…
Being a SW fan since the 70's this is really disturbing. Makes me ponder what people may have said about Billy Dee back then in the 80's. Moses Ingram is only playing a character that she did not/have a personal connection to. She is doing a good job as her character but it speaks more volumes about some so called SW fans.Smh.
I think they wouldn’t have really minded. Lando doesn’t take over and become the new Luke skywalker. He’s written as a well rounded character. Although, he was brought in to replace Han if Harrison didn’t wanna come back. And he does end up taking Harrison’s literal outfit by the end of the film lol. But it’s written in a way that makes sense. It doesn’t feel contrived that lando would flee bespin with the rebels on his old ship after Vader kept altering the deal and he betrayed the empire
I dislike the Reva character to this point, but that's on the writers and director, not the actor. To rip apart the actor, to bully them, to use racial slurs, is disgusting and has no place in any society.

@@dookula no, the casting directors should be critisized, they're the ones who have the luxury of going through thousands of auditions to get the right actress. even after that, a good director can get a good performance out of a lousy actor
The "annoying" aspect of Reva was completely made by the writer not her. And people also forget that it has only been 2 episodes. Ahsoka was the same way at the beginning of the Clone Wars, but everyone loves Ahsoka now. People need to learn to let character development take its place, and that its not the actor who made that character, it was the writer.

This is why when people call the Star Wars fandom toxic I don't correct them. This has happened more times with us than any other fandom, the Actor is not responsible for the script if you don't like the character or the way the actor is portraying that character you don't need to go and berate them. We will continue to be labeled as toxic until these people no longer care about Star Wars. My suggestion: keep casting women and minorities and eventually the bigots will expose themselves and we can show them the door

Dislike? I understand, but how can you fundamentally hate something you saw on screen for a grand total of 15 minutes? Really that strong of an opinion in 15 minutes?
The role might be out of place, but the actress has nothing to do with it. She’s just doing her part. Fans like this are the problem, learn to discern the character vs the actor/actress
Well, she has also been delivering lines in a subpar way lol. And the directing is to take criticism for it too. But we can critique actors and actresses for their performance. Not personal attacks, obviously, but some of you are making it out to be that we can't also blame her lol.
She needs to show proof of her harassment. It’s not like she came out in an article right before Kenobi was released stating Lucasfilm warned her of online hate. Almost as if a defense was being set up against valid criticism of a character who is focused on more than Kenobi himself.
It's pretty telling that instead of holding their own Fandom accountable for its ills, the first thing people do is respond like an immature 5 year old trying to evade any accountability; "it was Tommy, dad! There is no need to be racist, and I would bet most of racist comments come from people claiming that most of SW fans are racist. Classic. I dislike the character of Reva, but how is it Moses Ingram's fault? She didn't write the character. She's not even a bad actress, she was just doing what she was told. This is literally what happened with the prequels- people need to remember that actors and actresses aren't the ones writing the scripts. Going out of your way to harass someone is repugnant. Honestly though. I thought this time around some of the Star Wars fans would come to logic and learn, but it does not seem so. I’m not too big of a fan, but I almost feel ashamed to even be a fan because of this nonstop shit.

That's the problem is that people don't know what they want and don't have deep, righteous vows to go back to. We all need to be founded in Jesus which means loving God who loved us first, and loving others more than ourself.
We have been through this a million times, it’s disgusting that people keep bullying actors. She has done a great job these first two episodes imo, she is just portraying a character, not writing it.
Yes and studios have been through this a million times. If their series or movie is failing or getting bad reviews, then they parade out the fact that some idiot somewhere sent a nasty message to an actor, and capitalize on those victim status points. There's probably people who sent Harvey Winkle nasty messages. It happens, people are weird. It still doesn't make the series, the writing or the character any good.
We're not talking about a million times. We're talking about this situation. To me when you attach it all of these random @ss occurrences it minimizes what the actor is going through presently. Focus. Also I think there's too many wanna be critics of the acting and writing who haven't acted or written a day in their lives. Make it make sense. We need more fans and less critics.
She’s obviously making up lies so she can play the usual poor victim. You’re just going to automatically believe everything she says?? Its not surprising that you normies are taking the media’s side and blindly blaming the fanbase (you’re not part of) who ONLY criticized the character. There’s no point to criticize her personally. And btw, you *CANNOT* get muh bullied on the freaking internet FFS. Those other actors were physically bullied.
@@simplyscholar21 I couldn’t agree more. I bet the Disney staff are the one who send her those messages, if she’s not lying (which she is). So the focus can be on the “big baddy” fanbase and not how shit the show is.
Absolutely pathetic. These actors are not the people they portray. They are paid to play a character exactly how they are instructed to play the character. Whether the character is good or not has nothing to do with them. People are disgusting.
I personally didn't like her acting/line delivery but there's no need for anyone to go after her like this. What an example of how toxic the Star Wars fandom can get.
She got a Grammy nomination for Queens Gambit, so she can act. All the inquisitors seem weak and indecisive. Probably since the senate still has some power and Vader and Palps told them to not be to aggressive publicly. Reva doesn’t care and just wants power and to get back at Obi-wan for assumed transgression against her.
you also have to think that even her line delivery and stuff like that is probably only about 50%-65% her. She would also have been directed by the director for how to act out the lines. She is literally there to play a character. She didn't come up with her script, she most likely didn't even have total control over how her script was acted in front of a camera. People sending her hate are fucking idiots with no clue how this stuff works.
All actors get hate messages. It comes with being in the spotlight. They even do a talk show skit and make celebrities read the mean tweets that people write about them. It's not right but it is a requirement to have a thick skin.
Thank you! We literally just got introduced to her character. We don’t know her motives yet. We don’t know much about her. It’s literally just episode 2 of the show… Can we at least give the character a chance to develop before hating them?
Damn people, leave the woman alone! I think she did an amazing job conveying the character so far! It's not her fault Reva is not written to some people's liking.
As someone who is critical of new Star Wars stuff, I was annoyed by Reva “killing” the GI. We have not seen her whole character so far and motivations. I think we should wait until the show is over before we reserve judgement. I wonder how often inquisitors attack each other though?
I was annoyed by her in general. I don't think her writing is very good and I don't think her acting is very good. I cringed during some of her scenes. I am curious where they will take her character, though. But, as a black woman I am angered by the racists attacks against her and think that some of the fandom has a serious problem with how they engage the material. Especially considering its a universe with all sorts of species and colors.
Listen I been a Star Wars fan since I was around 4 years old back in 2005 the only thing that i found annoying was the Grand Inquisitor dieing becasue if you ever get to watch the series Star Wars Rebels just know it takes place around 5 years after the Obi Wan Kanobi series so 15 years after Revenge of the Sith and the Grand Inquisitor was the main villian of the first season till he dies after a badass lightsaber fight. and the people that are being racest are just saying that becasue there ass hats that just want to start shit and are saying there Star Wars fans just as a crutch... or thats how i see it at least
@@MegaSparklyRainbow Your right, but the Grand Inquisitor wasn't supposed to die in Kenobi because he dies on screen in Star Wars Rebels which takes place 5 years after Kenobi so the writers of Kenobi kind of fucked up there
My issue is she wasn’t even a fan of Star Wars before taking the role. To me, that is evidence enough that she was in fact a diversity hire. EVERYTHING that is made has a diversity hire. It’s got nothing to do with her “being black” in the world of Star Wars, it’s got 100% to do with her bashing Star Wars in the past, wasn’t a fan before being casted, and her nonsense of her “my character is better than Vader” and the “there’s never been black people in Star Wars so my role will be ground breaking” bullshit. She brought the hate from fans on herself. The racism isn’t acceptable, but that’s not the core of what’s going on.
She’s playing the character the way she is supposed to be. People complain about Hayden Christensen’s acting even though that’s the way he was supposed to act too. There’s no excuse for going after this actress or her character.
it's a case of the unguarded public face presented versus insulated and malicious/idiotic decision maker (or influential financier) who most barely know let alone have any effective means by which they can state their dissatisfaction. My greater issue is that this happens so regularly now that the companies, media outlets, interviewers and studios themselves are incorporating it into their marketing strategy and no matter the source of the hate it's always laid upon the feet of the paying customers/fans.

I did see her post now. The toxic racist people are not part of the community. There have been all races in SW for the whole time. She has improved her performance by episode 3 BTW. It took her a min to slip into it.
Seeing that we’re only two episode in, I’m not a fan of Reva: she’s insubordinate and hot headed (which to be far is the description for a bunch of Sith). But I’d never flame an actor for doing their job. Behavior like this only proves Disney right for briefing her ahead the shows premiere.

They’re all not menacing and seem more like a bunch of incompetent teenagers with a slightly more competent guy leading them. It’s my biggest issue with Kenobi so far. The Inquisitors in Rebels were awesome and I hope to see some of that here.
The GI in Rebels wasn't all powerful like Palps yet he was still intimidating and cunning. The live action version is straight trash and does a disservice to the one seen in Rebels. Why they told Rupert Friend not to refer to the show is beyond me
Wait for the whole series to be out before you come to that conclusion. The Inquisitors aren't supposed to be incredibly intimidating right now because they haven't really found Obi-Wan and faced him. We have seen them walk more than anything else.
I've never understood why people think attacking an actor who plays a character they don't like will accomplish anything when it's the fault of the writers. The hate is completely unjustified. She was receiving hate far before the show even aired. And her character is written to be against Kenobi, and written to be an opposition - to be abrasive. She doesn’t even have Rey syndrome because she’s definitely not overpowered or liked by any of her peers. What else do you want Reva to do?
I’m not loving the shouting threatening monologues. But that’s more of an issue with writing and direction. I’d personally prefer if her dialogue was reduced significantly until later episodes so we didn’t know what her motivation was and have her be more of an act first, explain later kind of a character. That way when she does something, it’s shocking, it’s still impulsive, and she can still get chewed out by her peers, but the audience would be wondering, “What’s her deal?” I’m thinking more of how Denis Villeneuve reduced Benicio Del Toro’s dialogue in Sicario where he was mostly a silent/almost background character until he acted and then he took over the narrative the second half of the movie. That’s what I wish they would’ve done with Reva.
I don’t have a problem so much as they wrote her to be over the top unhinged with zero discipline. It’s one dimensional the writers could and should do better. She literally stabbed her boss trying to kill him and said some stupid comment like “Who’s in the gutter now!” It’s just bad, she’s out of control. Even if she killed The Grand Inquisitor, (which is obvious she didn’t considering the time this happened) she just ruined herself. Now the inquisitors will be hunting her as well. It’s just pretty stupid IMO. Maybe it’ll end up being cool in that, but it made the character just unbelievable at that point. Not a single rational or logical thought to her actions, just a mindless and angry nut job.
She seems like a Mary sue they way Disney is portraying her doing unnecessary gymnastics and getting away with not following orders. If that were the real grand inquisitor he would've cut her head off a long time ago.
As a military veteran her character and the way she acts reminds me of female drill instructor. And honestly to me the female drill instructors were much scarier than the male ones lol. I think her acting fits the character perfectly because the empire is a fascist military. Some of the lines are cringe or out if place sure, but that's more on the writers of the show and not so much on her in my opinion. I personally "buy" her more as an inquisitor than the other 2. The grand inquisitor acts like a captain or colonel would since his demeanor is way more proper which also fits his character in the show very well.
Especially that scene with uncle Owen gave me flashbacks of when a female drill instructor is all up in your face taunting you calmy and hoping you'd make a move or say something disrespectful so they'd have an excuse to haze the ever living shit out of you. it really does capture the essence of how that feels in real life for me personally at least.

Well I never found her to be annoying or cliche. Always loved little Soka.
Ahsoka also had multiple seasons to grow and develop as a character where as Reva only has 3 more episodes and then that’s it. Unless there’s a huge time jump and an 80’s training montage for her. It will be hard to recover a poorly written character and it’s sad to see

Thanks for keeping it classy dude.
She’s written fine the whole point of her character is to be unlikable and the fact you dislike her is proof of good writing

Reva is a character. She is an actor playing a character.
@@G2_Convoy he's also white...
@@G2_Convoy Yeah thats the thing.
Is this a question of the usual hate an unlikable character recieves in a big franchise being blown out of proportion and heavily promoted, or is there something that really pissed these people off in the shows episodes.
Either way, she is not likable even as a villain or antagonist.
Talentless Patronising tokenism in a nutshell. Sadly people like her will never be able to say they earned their role on their own merit and talent, without that thought in the back of their mind.
"Was i, just a virtue signal."
@@ziondelhamorte66 Has nothing to do with that Anakin is the main character and Reva is just written to not be liked but I agree going at the actor is way to much I forget how toxic Star Wars fans can be
Honestly, the inquisitors as a whole just don’t seem that intimidating in Kenobi. It’s not just Reva.
Why they told Rupert Friend not to refer to the show is beyond me
Wtf? The inquisitors were better in the rebels? When I saw how the grand inquisitor was flying with his lightsaber, I turned that shit off immediately
Wait for the whole series to be out before you come to that conclusion. The Inquisitors aren't supposed to be incredibly intimidating right now because they haven't really found Obi-Wan and faced him. We have seen them walk more than anything else.
Dude is judging a show off of two episodes, really....?🤣🤣
@@zakmirza4878 I know right lmao
I've never understood why people think attacking an actor who plays a character they don't like will accomplish anything when it's the fault of the writers. The same thing happened to Jake Lloyd, Ahmed Best, Kelly Marie Tran, and Daisy Ridley. Star wars fans are arguably the best in cinema, but can also be the most reprehensible in terms of behavior.
I have never seen a star wars comment section that isn't toxic as fuck

Well, you run another channel- Cobra Kai theory. Are the female and POC actors getting shit over there? No, because their characters are all well written and their skills and abilities all make sense. Not to mention all the POC in Star Wars previously- Lando, Windu, Jango, etc..

How’s anybody surprised…this entire fan base has a reputation that goes back almost two decades for viciously bullying actors. It’s a shame because I love Star Wars, but there is no denying the fact that this fan base is a toxic cesspool unlike any other. The people who do this aren’t “outliers” this is sadly just the Star Wars fandom, you don’t build the reputation this fan base has from a tiny minority within.
It’s this or the cringy fandom you get in fnaf
Kinda, Star Wars has also attacked the fans, certainly Rian Johnson or KK.
Completely agree, our fan base gets heated fast and taking it out on the actors makes everything worse, might deter some from taking roles in SW. We can change the reputation but it’s going to take time
They are outliers. Unless you have definitive proof they aren’t. Any pics of death threats that are valid? Or are they likely random accounts people use cause thanks to the internets anonymity, they can do as they please.
Its a big group in absolute numbers yes. But i would still like to make clear that in relative numbers, this is a small group.
But unfortunately, it's still too big of a group.
And a lot of these people say that they just get critized by SJW's and then when they give "valid criticism" they get the label of toxic, racist or sexist fans. But that is just bs. Reva has been attacked by these people since the first trailer, before we knew anything about her.
But i still would like to point out most people from the "star wars fanbase" isn't like this.
I don’t even understand how we can “hate” her yet? She’s doing literally exactly what a darkside impulsive person would act like
Its because shes black and to half of these infectious morons who have infiltrated star wars, they think anyone who isnt white is some form of "woke sjw agenda" here to replace white men or some dumbass shit.
Those first comments literally prove who these people are. They are the sorts of people who watch geeks & gamers daily and think they are under attack from the "libtards" and have this entire made up culture war in their minds, like I said, to the point they think a black woman is just a "diversity hire" and that its "George floyadism"
These people whinge about cancel culture but would cancel anyone they want if tbey could, they dont deserve a platform to speak on
The hate is completely unjustified.
That way when she does something, it’s shocking, it’s still impulsive, and she can still get chewed out by her peers, but the audience would be wondering, “What’s her deal?”
I’m thinking more of how Denis Villeneuve reduced Benicio Del Toro’s dialogue in Sicario where he was mostly a silent/almost background character until he acted and then he took over the narrative the second half of the movie.
Man this is sad, I know some of us hate her character but sending hate to her in real life is messed up.
@local swede Your probably one of them
It happens all the time but no one looks through their insta DMs
@local swede your mom is gay
As a military veteran her character and the way she acts reminds me of female drill instructor. And honestly to me the female drill instructors were much scarier than the male ones lol. I think her acting fits the character perfectly because the empire is a fascist military. Some of the lines are cringe or out if place sure, but that's more on the writers of the show and not so much on her in my opinion. I personally "buy" her more as an inquisitor than the other 2. The grand inquisitor acts like a captain or colonel would since his demeanor is way more proper which also fits his character in the show very well.
Especially that scene with uncle Owen gave me flashbacks of when a female drill instructor is all up in your face taunting you calmy and hoping you'd make a move or say something disrespectful so they'd have an excuse to haze the ever living shit out of you. it really does capture the essence of how that feels in real life for me personally at least.
to me it feels super forced (no pun intended) that she is a BLACK women with power not a powerful women that happens to be black. like they make her way too powerful and evil, yet she has the cringiest lines. poor writing.
@@jimmyrecard6021 idk I guess we disagree. But that's ok. Everyone has different taste. To me her lines and delivery are very human and believable. But I guess that's the problem since we're supposed to be in outerdpace lol. I get it.

@@jimmyrecard6021 ok yeah I do agree that she seems way too important when the show is supposed to be about Obi-wan and Darth Vader. I wish they would focus on those two more and not make them side characters in their own show.
I can't believe we are still having to explain the difference between someone PLAYING a character, and someone WRITING a character.
Thank god some of us know the difference. This bullying needs to stop. This isn't Moses' fault, its how Reva is written
And Disney for starting this nonsense.
Right? Disney hired A list actors like Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro and wrote them horribly and without any purpose to the plot. I didn't see anything Moses starred in before but she was in Macbeth with Denzel, she can't be a horrible actress when given the chance. Her character is just written wooden and one dimensional.
She's a bad actress too lol. Doesn't justify any racism or hate, but still.

@@SmileFlame3 no, she's a bad actor with a bad character, doesn't really help either the show or her case of being an actress
Hating a character is a different story, but inboxing her racist crap and threatening her is BS. One thing I’ve noticed is that the sci fi, comic culture is very racist. At times it feels like like black people don’t have a place in sci fi, comic or super hero genre’s. It’s messed up!
it's definitely something i have tried to evolve on like im sure many other white dudes here is accepting that a lot of the internalized racism and misogyny in this culture was taught either on purpose or subconsciously at a very early age and that its okay to be sorry for it and move forward. and i think that taking steps to try an evolve the culture further is something every one should do in their one way. 🙂

She plays an arrogant, aggresive, entitled dark sider well. She seems like a nice person irl, so she definitely can act. It´s not like they casted someone with Reva´s personality to play themselves.

Bad guys who don´t yell, are plotting, cold and calculating are the biggest cliche. Not all villains have to be the same.
BTW emotionally unstable villains are much more realistic because real evil people are always those with high tier personality disorders, which often includes emotional instability (narcissitic p.d., borderline p.d.). The cold and calculating ones are psychopaths.

Absolutely. There should be a distinction between the fictional character and the person. It makes no sense to go after her and cite her race as well.
