  • I purchased a complete RTR on HPI nitro MT2 on eBay for about 100 bucks in some quite rough shape. This video details a full overhaul and repair process to get this vintage icon of an RC back up and running. The following have been done:
    1) overhaul nitro motor (remove some dirt on piston)
    2) check fuel system for leaks
    3) clean air filter
    4) adjust clutch bell and spur gear mesh
    5) clean and insect the fuel filter

      hey bro!! I still have this model, I did another video and it literally hit 50MPH in the stock form. I could not believe it. I expected maybe 38 at most. But this thing is sick!! Its almost as fast as the 2-speed traxxas jato.

      you gotta start it up man!!! Fast brushless RC is great and all, but nitro is still worth while. When they run well you get alot more joy from that then the electrics. Its a feeling of satisfaction, ahhahahaa. I might do a. video on how to prep and inspect a nitro rc after long periods of inactivity.

      ye, cause as you know I must have purchased way too many old nitro rc's lately, and guess what, they are all runners. I guess anyone today could run a brushless and not know anything about the hobby, but to run and keep running a nitro takes some skill.

      hey dude!! I'm planning on starting up the ROVAN soon, need a warm day, because these things take a while to heat cycle through the first few tanks of gas. Since these old nitros are already broken in I don't have to mess around much with that at least. Also buying a silencer for the Rovan, wonder if it will actually work.

    Great job bud. You keep making me want to grab my first nitro! Just ordered that new arrma typhon 3s but my next truck this spring I'll grab a nice nitro truck. What kinda speeds can you get out of a quality 10th scale nitro? Thanks man, great job.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey buddy!! thanks for watching!! I got a few nitro rcs and the fastest is a Traxxas REVO with an OS .18 TZ, so in a speed test I did it got 43 MPH with a slightly rich engine. Another nitro exceed rally monster with larger wheels and a 2 speed got 39 MPH. I'd say a normal nitro 10th scale with a relatively lean mix will do 45 if it's got a 2 speed. Ofcourse this is all stock gearing too.

    What kind of servos for throttle on it

  • @kate20_73
    @kate20_73 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So basically for nitro, when you want to stop using the car for the day or the week etc just hold it at quarter to half throttle to run all the fuel out?

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, your model will run out of fuel on it's own, I onyl did that at the end because I was not 100% of how good my first tune on this old engine was after restoration, and wanted to make sure the carb gets a good clean out at the end. PLus i was running pretty rich and didnt want alot of unburned oil left in the pipe.

    Hi I have a question is there a way I could talk to you about a nitro RC truck that I have? It's practically brand new but I had a hard time starting it some while ago. Was wondering how much would you charge to get it going if even possible?

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hello, no charge at all, would be happy to help you out. What model is it, lets start there. BTW my main video on my home cannel page is on how to start a nitro RC. let me know if you see it.

      @@hybrid32494 It's a Kyosho Mad Force Kruiser... I saw that video. My issue is I've tried to get it started probably about a year ago. Put fuel in it tried to start for about 30 minutes sadly no fire. I purged as much fuel as I possibly could put it away and never touched it again. It's leaving a bad taste in my mouth cause it's practically brand new and it has never been started. I'm scared I didn't purged it enough, I don't have the confidence to take it apart to inspect.

    • @hybrid32494

      thats a great truck!! I would love to have one. The problem with the big block trucks like that is they are a nightmare to start when new for a long time, until the motor breaks in. (they just have so much compression and are tough to start). Main thing, are you sure your glow starter is charged well? you gotta always test it out on a spare old glow plug to see it it actually glows red. Then you could pour some fuel directly in the carb and try to start it. IT should fire up even if you have any vacuum issues. Just like real cars, you need spark and fuel. LOL.

      I still have this truck btw. The T-15 engine it comes with is not my favorite, plus it used the older style CLUTH ROLLER BEARING, instead of the modern dual bearing supported clutch bell design. I have since converted it to normal modern specs and it runs. BTW I might have posted some clips of in in a video, where it's running a RED JATO body.

      thats a nice system you got. I've never worked on car audio since I had my old Acura integra GSR. For some reason when I hooked up a new set of basic pioneer speakers it shorted out the fuel pump and ECU. Since then I've just not messed with wiring. What system was in your Audi? harmon? You ever heard the THX factory sound in a Lincoln, WOW. great system for a ford. lol.

      @@hybrid32494 yes i have heard those Lincoln factory systems! They sound great! And yes I did have the harmon. The head unit was nice it was just the speakers that were all blown! Wish it had the factory Bose system that some came with. And I hear ya on the fuel pump, I recently put a walbro 255 pump in. Just did a new turbo, front mount intercooler, injectors and new 3" exhaust over the summer! Very happy with it. Right now I'm having some trouble with it. Think my battery or alternator is bad as it's not starting after sitting for a few days. Was also idling rough and I was getting misfire codes. Sucks having to work on it in the cold and during the winter. Lol
