Great videos! I just got an OS .15 CVX started up after sitting for 20 years. Elbow grease got it I unseized then it started like a dream on new fuel, I didn’t over rev it though on the first tank, second tank it ran beautifully, my car is an antique HPI RS4 1
Massive thank You. Using this my nitro car which has sat for over a year has started again. It's a little lumpy but most likely the old fuel still burning off. Thank you again

Great guide, really like your videos...BUT. One fatal mistake on this one. You adjusted idle gap from fully closed, with your throttle trim. When you get it started this way, the engine will stall when you apply the brakes. ALWAYS. Make sure idle gap is as specified 1-2mm when brake is applied, this way the servo is forcing it shut( but adjust with open throttle, or you may damage the carb). Again, love your guides, well spoken and eksplaned.
Thanks a lot. Got Kyosho MP777 WC for my son ( and me ) Xmas present. I have rebuild everything and was struggling to start ;) Followed yr video with priming etc and our buggy is alive. Now I need to tune it. Job for tomorrow. Thanks again
Wow I used to watch your videos a long time ago when you was a kid and helped me alot with nitro cars.Glad to see your still in the hobby and doing well 👍
Very grateful for the information. I have a fairly old Schumacher pro 21. It's been more or less 10 years since i had it running. I did the full checks on condition etc and i have to rebuild the clutch assembly before i can attempt starting her but she's been in dry storage so apart from a tune up, I'm looking forward to having her running again.
Thanks for the help man, youre the best. This is the first video that was useful to me and I havent used my redcat shockwave in about a year. I followed what you did and my car worked! Thanks for the help. It saved me a lot of time and energy. ;)
I got this revo 3.3 it's been sitting for long time.I got it running ran good put screws back to factory settings before starting she was doing good then the idle was up and down by it self the the piston seized in the cylinder the only thing I could think of is it was sucking air.
very informative refresher tutorial , i miss using my nitro buggy. btw you over flooded the engine, but it did help lubricate the motor well before it actually started. i recommend fresh after run oil instead of nitro gas after removing glow plug then crank it a few times without glow plug igniter. then prime and add power to start the engine.
Hmm. I have a kyosho hawaii pure ten and it had been sitting on a shelf for 7 years. The bearings where coroded. I just lubed the bearings with dw-40 till it would turn over. Filled it up some 25% nitro meth and it started like a dream and still runs like a dream. And yes, i know that it´s basicaly a mowing granade because of the bearings.
Do you have sponsored cars? Don't know if you are joking or you really dont have cars lol. By the way keep up the good work i learned many things from you.
Air Plus Fuel plus hot glow plug Plus compression equals it has no choice but to at least hit like any two stroke if all else fails hold the throttle wide open it will clear itself out and run
I have seen inside engines that have sat for a year with no after run oil, and it wouldn't run st all no matter how hard I tried. So I took the engine apart and cleaned all of the sludge and stuff up and it ran again. If you can't get it to start at all I would advice tearing it apart and making sure every component inside that engine is super clean. But make sure you re oil your piston and connecting rod and bearings before you put it together
Na man, I've just bought an OS max .40 FX with fuel all gummed up inside. I've put some fuel in it, let the fuel drain out, put it in my plane, connected fuel lines, heated it up and it started just fine
Ten celsius isn't cold, man. I ran nitro stuff in northern Minnesota when it was -30 ~ -40C and they started fine if you warmed up the cylinder with a hairdryer for 30 seconds first. :D
Thx RC biker very informative & helpful it was once described to me nitro is like working on an old 70 s sportscar it isn't that difficult no more than an old motorcycle or small plant like chainsaw just takes preventative maintenance and common sense !!
Depends entirely on the conditions. If you've been driving on dirt / sand then I'd certainly look at taking the engine apart and cleaning the parts. If it's been on tarmac then it wont be as bad, but personally I'd clean it either way.
i had a traxxas sitting for 2 years the gas that was inside it was literally jelly and so sticky it took 20 minutes to clean it out and the engine took forever to start and after a few minutes of riding just stalled and would not turn on again so we just put it back in the basement it been in there for 2 years now any tips to getting running without stalling?
I don’t know anything about rc cars but I want to learn from scratch is there any videos from start to finish an where can I buy pieces I need I just got a lot of stuff for free an now I want to learn everything I can
Hi mate , had my stepsons nanda buggie started after few months in house starts no problem but won't stop on the ground just stalls can't figure it out had no problems before with it could the clutch be gone ?
make sure you leave the buggie running for a minute or so to allow the engine to heat up, lift the wheels off the ground and gently give gas, if the wheels turn then the clutch should be fine, then put the buggie back on the floor, give it a gentle push and apply a small amount of throttle and try and maintain speed, it should then work, if it stalls it's probably not getting enough fuel so unscrew the screw a little nex5 to the engine to allow more fuel in.
I need help!! Just bought 2 nitro cars from someone and they both worked fine for a few hours... but 1 doesn't wanna start anymore even though it has compression... and the 2nd one now stalls when I hit the throttle... the problemen... they are made for 20% nitromethane... I used 25% nitromethane. How bad can it be damaged from this mistake? Nothing has blown up but 1 doesn't start anymore... it wants to start sometimes and idle for 3 seconds at best and the other one can only idle....
josh if you remove the orange venturi from the carburetor you will see a the 1mm opening gap, keep that in mind, incase you adjust the idle screw or increase throttle trims and when you start it, it may take off mate :) by the way there is rust at the bottom of my glow plug mate. also, what type of glow plug will need for my .15 engine?
I inherited two nitro cars that haven't been used for like a decade, I know basically nothing, but I want to learn more. Can you please explain the basics for me?
mate, good video. i had a nitro car and this is the problem that l went through but i had no idea of replacing the fuel. Mate, l used to get a lot of smoke wen l started the car, can you tell me why. Thanks
It could be running rich. But warm up the engine before making any adjustments. Smoke when the engine is first started could just be old oil burning off or after run oil/WD40 burning off that's inside.
So do I do the same thing if my car has been sitting for 12 years. And I don't have a pull start or box because my brand doesn't make this car any more. Do I use a drill or a rope?
Hi Josh, I was wondering if you could help me. One of my friends has given me some RC's and I have no idea what they are if I send you some pics would you be able to help? Also great vids. I have been a subscriber for years on your channel. Also what make is your glow ignitor and where would i be able to get one? Keep these vids coming.
Hello I got a tomahawk st for Christmas and I really want to know how to get it running properly I've watched all of your videos but they are diffrent engines so I'm quite stuck I've tried to look online but there is basically nothing out there I was just wondering if it's possible to video call you or something yes I know it sounds a bit crazy but this is my last hope 🙏
The process of tuning nitro engines is the same regardless of which engine it is, you need to learn the signs of a rich/lean mixture and then tune it accordingly. If the carb is messed up then return the tuning needles back to their factory default settings and work from there
If it's not been started or broken in then follow one of my First start/break in tutorial videos. This video is for already broken in engines that have been left unused ;)
Hi Dale, the battery voltage doesn't really matter as the igniter will regulate the voltage to 1.5v regardless of what the battery voltage is I tend to use whatever battery I've got at hand, either a 11.1v or 7.4v LiPo You can connect any battery up to 20v to it
Thanks what if the oil has been in the engine for about 7 years, as my rc car is at my friends house and he said the engine is flooded and I would require a new engine along with a pipe and exhaust and pull start, is this bullshit ?
Great video,Josh, you should've been on TV.I've got a Pulse, great buggy, very fast when you get it set up correctly,I had to put a No.3 plug in it the other day,it was spluttering on the 5 and 4,as you say it's been pretty cold in the UK.I only recently figured out what those bright orange and yellow items you get with the Pulse are, carb restrictors,I see you have one fitted,I don't understand what use these are as the 4.6 engine isn't legal for racing anyway,I'm not sure why you'd want to restrict the power?,would be grateful if you could explain?
It essentially just restricts the air flow a little, if you remove it you'll find you might have better throttle response. They're only used for racing to take the edge off acceleration and making the engine/buggy a bit easier to handle! Not sure why they include it in this package as like you say it's not race legal anyway. Maybe it's because you can race this size buggy in other countries and it's a model that's sold in other countries too?! No idea to be honest!
JT12's R/C Videos yes,it is a slight mystery!😊😉,I thought all buggy racing was all maximum of 3.5 cc but I'm no expert!,I've started using WD40 or some equivalent as after run oil,I've found that the rubber seals in the carburettor/back plate etc quickly perish if the buggy is left for months with nothing done, apparently the high alcohol content of nitro fuel attacks rubber and provides no corrosion protection to the cylinder walls etc allowing rust to become an issue if not used for months.😊👍👌
When you pour fuel directly into the cylinder as you did ...always spin over the engine to get the excessive fuel out of the cylinder...it also gets it closer to a gas state. If too much fuel is put in remember fuel does not compress so with a very powerful starter you could do damage to the engine.
hi mate , thanks for the info . just a question i bought a nitro car from ebay to have a zoom with , the car starts after a few pulls , when it starts the car cuts off after a few seconds up to 30 seconds ( note that there is little smoke coming out and the heatsink *head* is VERY hot ) the glow plug glows but not very bright and theres alot of fuel that comes out the exhaust . any tips or pointers
Why would there be rust in there? You shouldn't have much moisture in there Especially after just a couple months. Just always use after run and you'll be fine. Dont bother checking unless you decide to just put a couple more drops of after run in.
Hey bro did you ever start the Kyosho concept 30 that you said you bought , I also got one and a put a brand new Engine but I can’t get the engine running what does Heli use a different type o fuel, I’m using the nitro fuel I use with my nitro cars
Hi, no I never got round to using that and ended up selling it. You need a different Nitro for the helicopters, although it should start with the car fuel - just won't run very well. I would try it with the proper Nitro aero fuel before you start any further investigation :)
Hello man! Its incredible how easily it started compared to my truck. I have a Kyosho Giga Crusher with the GXR28 engine. But, the thing is that it just wont start. Last time i tried, i was pulling the cord for like 2 hours straight and it did not even fire up once. The glow plug is in fairly good condition and the igniter is always charged up. Do you think warming up the engine with a hairdryer before firing it up would help?
JT12's R/C Videos I am pretty sure it does. The manual suggests that after you cover the exhaust, you should pull the cord 4-5 times. I pull it at least 20 times before I try to start it. Plus, I can see the fuel going through the hose.
I got my next door neibours car that’s nitro had a seized engine used the heat gun used some force on the fly wheel for the both of the cars they run mint
i used Carburetor cleaner sense the fuel was jelly inside the engine i got it started in 2 days but i don't use it much sense of the cold and the nitro i have will only last for 2 1/2 tanks or so
Can anyone tell me how long can the fuel stay in the fuel tank before it can no longer be used? And is it a problem if it stays in the fuel bottle when it’s half full, thanks
hello I'm having a problem with my engine it won't start on my rc truck but when i take it off and start it while im holding it in my hands it starts right up!? my fuel tank and lines are all good so what else can cause this!? please help
Would you recommend buying a nitro car if I have no nitro experience? I'm good with mechanical stuff and I have a traxxas slash VXL. I was thinking of getting a traxxas nitro slash.
yes, Nitro's are easy really. They just require more patience and time. With Nitro, the maintenance and set up becomes a big part of the hobby too. Not just driving them :)
I texted him saying why is he not uploading and he said that he has ran out of video ideas, add him on Facebook and message him there asking him to come back. If you need any help just ask me or join a forum called rc talk, I’m on there and it really helped when I started nitro everywhere.

Use a heat gun or even a blow dryer to warm up engine before starting is probly the best tip I can give for easy startup.
Yes that's fine if you're at home with electricity :)
Lol, yes it only works if you have access to electricity ,or battery powered heat gun though I have never seen a battery powered heat gun.
I do the same, and it is the best way of getting your engine started.

No need for electricity.12v head heater will do. Again. I agree better to pre heat the engine. You already know why

If it's not been started or broken in then follow one of my First start/break in tutorial videos. This video is for already broken in engines that have been left unused ;)
May I know what size LiPo you use for your glow igniter? How many volts please.
Hi Dale, the battery voltage doesn't really matter as the igniter will regulate the voltage to 1.5v regardless of what the battery voltage is
I tend to use whatever battery I've got at hand, either a 11.1v or 7.4v LiPo
You can connect any battery up to 20v to it
TheRCBiker thank you so much! Have a little .05 nitro that is giving me fits to start, so figure pumping in more power to the plug cannot hurt!
@@dalesilvernell2053 It's not an ACME NB16 is it.... ?
TheRCBiker nah, it’s a Sportwerks Chaos 1/16 bought used on EBay.
my uncle gave me his old hpi savage 25 with a .25 engine, it hasn't been started for about 3 years. any special starting tips?
I see as the glow igniter is applied to the glow plug it glows for starting. But what keeps the fuel igniting without the igniter?
The glow plug continues glowing from the heat of combustion, the glow igniter just gets it started
JT12's R/C Videos very interesting thanks. Love your content
I have a question for you what if engine has that bronze middle tuning ? Can you show a video on how to adjust that one
hi mate , thanks for the info . just a question i bought a nitro car from ebay to have a zoom with , the car starts after a few pulls , when it starts the car cuts off after a few seconds up to 30 seconds ( note that there is little smoke coming out and the heatsink *head* is VERY hot ) the glow plug glows but not very bright and theres alot of fuel that comes out the exhaust . any tips or pointers
CO2InhalerGamer then you’re running very rich, try leaning it out
Very usefull tutorial for nitro beginners.
No worries Thanks for watching :)
If it is for setting for months, I usually open the engine first to make sure there is no rust build up inside.
Why would there be rust in there? You shouldn't have much moisture in there Especially after just a couple months. Just always use after run and you'll be fine. Dont bother checking unless you decide to just put a couple more drops of after run in.
My Rc is a nitro car but doesn't run on fuel. I haven't used it within months. Do I just pull it apart and clean it out?
Strive how can a nitro car not run on nitro?
i bought a brand new bottle of fuel a few months ago it hasn't been opened or anything would it be ok to use now
Yes! of course. It takes a long time for fuel to go bad , especially if it's airtight.
Ohh, and how about a video, where you go through the problems of airleaks..( mayor issue on many cars). And worn out pistons etc.
yes I will do. I have quite a lot on at the moment but it's on the list
Thanks so much, this helped me so much. Please upload more videos.
Yes absolutely. If you can pre-heat the engine then it will help. Are you sure Fuel is getting through to the engine?
JT12's R/C Videos I am pretty sure it does. The manual suggests that after you cover the exhaust, you should pull the cord 4-5 times. I pull it at least 20 times before I try to start it. Plus, I can see the fuel going through the hose.
I got my next door neibours car that’s nitro had a seized engine used the heat gun used some force on the fly wheel for the both of the cars they run mint
Good work!
Thanks mate maybe you could do a vid on that
What is the specific name of the fuel I can’t find it anywhere and do I need any oil or anything like that?
It's Nitro fuel, it's a pre mix of Nitromethane and oil
i used Carburetor cleaner sense the fuel was jelly inside the engine i got it started in 2 days but i don't use it much sense of the cold and the nitro i have will only last for 2 1/2 tanks or so
You should've used just normal nitro fuel instead of carburetor cleaner, carburetor cleaner will dissolve your gaskets.
Can anyone tell me how long can the fuel stay in the fuel tank before it can no longer be used? And is it a problem if it stays in the fuel bottle when it’s half full, thanks
Best place to keep fuel is only in the fuel container, the filler bottle and tank are not air tight
hello I'm having a problem with my engine it won't start on my rc truck but when i take it off and start it while im holding it in my hands it starts right up!? my fuel tank and lines are all good so what else can cause this!?
How long does fuel usually last?
Nice vid mr enjoyed it. But can i ask whats the green covering on the stocks ?
They are shock socks :) designed to help prevent dirt getting into the seals
Hi, man I have an HPI racing WR8 nitro engine 3.0 HO and engine is leakaging nitro and oil through the head, do you know what could be happening ?
He is so grown up since the old videos
pancake airsoft he's quit youtube
Noway, why did he quit? i just left a long-ass comment saying he should never stop :( I started late so he's helped me alot.
I texted him saying why is he not uploading and he said that he has ran out of video ideas, add him on Facebook and message him there asking him to come back. If you need any help just ask me or join a forum called rc talk, I’m on there and it really helped when I started nitro everywhere.
