Man you need to season your food with same salt, pepper, and garlic powder before you cook it, it also wouldn't hurt to dice up some onions and peppers to mix with the meat before cooking. Even sprinkling a packet of taco seasoning on it would make it WAY better.

Completely true if you want the gamey flavor completely gone soak in salt water for 24 hours itll make anything taste good
Snowy is absolutely right. Brining will remove the "gamey" taste, but you need to add flavor; salt, pepper, garlic, minced onion, chopped parsley, and olive oil. Let it Marinate for an hour at room temperature (start with cold meat).

That marlin is dirty. That’s why it’s misfiring. Need to spray some electric cleaner in the chamber and down the feeding tube. It is like carb cleaner but it doesn’t leave any oily residue. Then you oil it with your regular gun oil. Good video BTW.

The Marlin Model 60 isn't a "cheap gun" anymore. They don't make them anymore since 2019 and used ones go for $300+ these days. I have my old original 1967 Glenfield 18-shot which was my first rifle as a 8 year old. My Dad bought it brand new at K-Mart for $39.95 in 1967 and gave it to me. I also have a 1976 Glenfield 18-shot I took in a trade with a lifelong family friend. My newest is one of the last made in Alabama 14-shot I bought in 2019 at Walmart when they were discontinued for $158.88 plus tax. That ammo you are using is crap and M60s are well known for their accuracy being much better than a stock Ruger 10/22....always were! I have several Ruger 10/22s to compare them to as well. One of them is my old 1990 stainless with deluxe wood stock. Also have a Takedown, Sporter Deluxe with nice wood stock and a newer synthetic stock model I just bough a month ago on sale for $199.99. It doesn't have sights and is a optics only budget model. The Micro Groove rifling on the Marlins will send them all in there home. Gopher heads are no problem at all....
Bought my squirrel stock 60 for 129 from my lgs a year ago. I think the guys charging that much near you are on something. I see 60s on the rack cheap all the time.

Try oil on the bolt of the Marlin 60 and overkill on garlic powder, onion powder salt and pepper for small game, including groundhog.

It's not the rifles. Have a marlin 60 and 80 and both shoot great and decent groups with ammo they like. Also have a cz and it shoots dime size groups at 100. Also have an anshultz. All have ammo they prefer to shoot.

I don't think you gave the Marlin a fair shot... could be the editing but it looks like you just hurried everything and got rid of it. And I noticed you took a mulligan on a $400 rifle and wouldn't do the same on your Marlin... What's up with that? You also should use the same ammo for all the weapons imo.
I have a marlin model 60 it is the best .22 lr I’ve ever shot. Your rifle’s ejecting spring needs to be adjusted and more then likely you need to replace your recoil buffer. Do those things and you won’t ever shoot another .22.
Trying the good ammo in the cheap gun would be an interesting experiment.

I have that old marlin 22 and I’ve put hundreds maybe thousands of rounds through it and never had misfiring

It's the ammo. I know my .22 rifle is the same as yours and that same ammo. I get every other shot or 3 then jam or miss fire. Still love that gun though it's my daughter's future first gun.
That Marlin model 60 is the most accurate gun you have their if you use the right ammo
Put that CCI cheap ammo thru that Marlin 60. Get it in a bi-pod like the other ones i guarantee there will be no misfires and improved accuracy. Make it fair.
Did you remove the glands?
He probably ground them into the meat. If you take the glands out its awesome on the grill
How can u compare if ur laying down with the bipod versus free handing.. set them guns up the same and then see what kinda accuracy u get.
Very interesting video and brilliant attempt at cooking groundhog. (Just like the 1st time I tried cooking squirrel. That was 40 yrs ago.) I've since learned with experience, next time maybe try pouring some oil lightly over the top of the meat and then adding seasonning (ie. herbs, black pepper and salt etc.). Then cook and serve up with peppers and salad in tortillas with a splash of some Mexican or BBQ type sauce. I reckon that groundhog might then have a zinging taste, that could knock someones socks off at 5 yards?!?. = Marmota Mexicana . . . Honestly, it should transform the meat into a really nice meal.

Marlin has lead buildup at the chamber ledge. Clean it with a bronze round brush by spinning it in the chamber. The Model 60 is legendary. ...when clean..👍

Man... I had a model 60 almost 30 years ago that I would smoke lizzards at 100 yards all day with. Remington at some point took over, Marlin and the quality went downhill tremendously unfortunately. I believe now that the model 60 is discontinued even.... Very sad. If I may suggest, get your hands on an old, Remington Target Master!!! Single shot bolt action and just a tack driver. 1 in 50 barrels made target master as it was so precise they couldn't replicate it every time. You won't be disappointed.

Man i like your hunting videos but i don’t understand how can the meat be disgusting . I’ve never seen a video where you actually try to cook it normally , always on the fire in aluminum . Try just to season the meat with oil , a bit of salt a bit of pepper . And cook it on a pan how can it be this disgusting 😂 ?
I have some tips tho : when you skin it do it delicately, remove the glands that gives ( odors ) under the arms or on the back , remove every meat and their blood so the odors doesn’t contaminate the meat .
Put the meat in salt ( make a preparation of 50-60g of salt in 1 L of water )
Put the meat in a glass thing or whatever you have that is non reactive , put that water on the meat until it’s completely covered by the water and cover the thing you made + put it in the refrigerator . Let it rest the whole night or 4-8 hours to remove that taste of game and the odors .
After that rince good the meat with cold water that will also remove that high concentration of salt .
And dry it with paper towel ( the one for food ) .
After that oil it and put pepper , and whatever ( i’ll just recommend you to taste it normally before putting random things on it )
Let it rest in the olive/oil ( just a bit of oil not a lot it’s just to make the pepper give it it’s taste )
After cook it on a pan with butter or nothing . Tell us what you think

That $2,500 gun is amazing. I have a Lithgow LA101 22lr rifle. It shoots (five rounds through about the same hole at 50 yards) almost as good as your $2,500 gun. But the Lithgow is only $800 when I bought it. I'm sure your $2,500 gun is much better. The price is there.

You did that marlin wrong man. I've owned 3 model 60's most accurate semi auto 22 I've had. Clean your barrel and action,then check your buffer piece. They tend to wear out after a few 10,000 rounds😊
My marlin shoots the cheap bulk pack Winchester about the same as yours but it's very accurate with the bulk pack Norma. The norma is a little more expensive but it's worth it for the accuracy improvement

Not even close to being a valid comparison. To make it valid the same scope and ammunition needed to be used for all rifles. And clean the Marlin.

I have had virtual zero issues with the cheap Federal stuff in my old 22 semi rifle and it's accurate.
It’s just the ammunition because I have that gun and mine is like 20 30 years old and it was still just ammunition.
Draw target pictures on a big pillow. And use it as practise. Expensive pellets wont get damaged and you can reuse.
Winchester is terrible at making 22lr ammo get rid of that trash could have used cheap cci standard velocity in the model 60
