The M3 can be tuned to 950-1050 fps with 40-44 gr slugs which will almost exactly match the power and accuracy of the 40 gr Eley Match that you're using. It isn't a matter of airgun vs firearm for hunting in the same caliber--it is the bullet/slug/pellet weight, velocity, type of bullet (HP, solid, copper plated, etc), composition of bullet/slug/pellet (soft lead, hard lead, etc.), and of course the noise level that either is appropriate or not for the hunting you are doing. Otherwise, I appreciate the effort you put into these videos in trying to make comparisons. Thanks.
Fire power beats air long distance though
@@kevinhood9781 Consistency wins out at long range and modern air guns can be much more consistent than powder burners
I shoot some cheap federal 22's and they are hitting 1260 fps.
950 fps is subsonic and not nearly a powerful as a standard 22lr.
You are comparing max power of the air rifle to the least powerful 22lr. Apples to oranges.
Yeah... I just started getting into airguns. I had no idea how cool and advanced they have gotten.
@mikewhitman745 The .22lr may produce more energy but not by much. My M3 800 mm .22 is pushing a 40 grain boattail hp at about 1040 fps 96 fpe and 1060 fps 100 fpe on a hot day, and it is not even turned up to the max. My spread is 5 fps with 10 shots. 30 shots is usually a spread of 8 fps. All I'm saying is they both have their place, but don't underestimate the compressed air. Lol!
Had no idea that groundhogs climbed trees. Good video.
Same
Right. Lol!
That's a new one on me as well. Heck I didn't know they could climb fence posts either until I saw it myself.
They’re the largest in the squirrel family. They can climb but for some reason rather dig in my house foundation.
@@ENOCH9MM-vl2bm Lol! Right. They keep digging up holes where we have about 17 head of cattle walking around.
Nice! You do know the Impact M3 will do the job. You need 700 mm barrel or 800mm barrel. Matt Dubbers UTube channel they shoot out to 200 yards on rock chucks an such with 40 gr slugs. They also shoot competition for FX with airguns against 22 rimfires and beat them every year in the PRS matches! So , yeah ur 22 airgun is actially better. The FX panthera is a monster too. It beat out the competitions last year! In 22 cal💥💪💪💪🎯🤣👍
Just got into pcp hunting this year with a Gauntlet 2 .22 cal. Love it!!! It does force you to focus on precision, and its a different experience.
I also own the Gauntlet .22 and I LOVE it. I modded mine with a Gen 2 air tank, and Hajimoto 2 stage trigger, and regulator. Even without the mods it's an amazing airgun that shoots like a WAY more expensive one.
Man you have all this money and buy all these guns but don't know jack about them. You legit need to put the time and research into a gun before you make a video on it. FX sells slug liners for a reason.. because their normal liners are a slower twist rate, they dont do well with slugs, especially heavier slugs.
I think you are a very bright young man and have a great channel and good content, but learning all the ins and outs of a specific airgun before you make a video of it would make your channel even better. Not just for your own knowledge, but so you can pass that knowledge on to the viewer that may be considering a certain gun you use in one of your videos. No disrespect meant, just a little constructive criticism.
I was looking for this comment. I agree.
I was shooting with a slug liner when I was trying to tune for slugs. For guns like that I do spend a lot of time learning them before doing any filming. My experience trying to get FX rifles to consistently shoot slugs accurately has been horrible though. I know how to tune one to shoot slugs accurately but that accuracy only lasts about one magazine before the groups open up. And I've seen other people have the same problem. FX rifles are the only "slug guns" I have tried so far. I plan on trying some other brands in the future that claim they can shoot slugs accurately.
@@blockethoutdoors try to get edgun west to sponsor you :)
@@blockethoutdoors yeah so treu ..i had the same problem .1 mag and then ow boy ..bye 2200 euro gun .. i thought it was me .Then i grab back to my snowpeak m25.. .25 cal with huma reg etc polish this polish that . (450 euro's with reg) and it outshoot my very expensive gun at 50 .???I grab my 450 euro gun to hunt at 50 meters .Hours of work to polish etc trigger /crown etc ..But it shoots better then my FX 2200 euro gun?at 50 ..i dunno 100 TBH ...But still.
Hey, nice video👍 here in Australia I tend to use a 17hmr on small game, absolute devastating round at 100mtrs. Only issue is it’s quite a bang even when suppressed. A 22lr is great but the 17hmr is more consistent and the round disintegrates on impact.
Videos take time to edit and post. So two thumbs up! I own an FX M3 22 cal. 700 barrel. I can bench shoot a dime size target with Nelson 35 gr. slug at 89 yards every time. Work with Utah Airguns they will help you shoot sub MOA with the FX M3
Shooting above the horizon is bad ju-ju . Where did your projectile land ???
Gunpowder is always going to be better than compressed air, period.
Shooting birds WTF.
Why the hell you think you can just go out and kill sparrows and starlings like that?; are they considered pests in the US or do you just kill animals for fun or YT-likes ? In my country Sparrows are an endangered/protected species.
I'm a 60 year old Texan, a lifelong hunter, ex military and police.
I don't think posting videos of yourself killing every animal that walks or flies by is a great idea. We already have so many groups that are anti hunting and anti gun, trying to take these things away from us... Then they tune into TH-cam to find some kid shooting every ground squirrel and songbird that wanders by.
I know starlings are an invasive species that cause damage, etc etc... but even knowing that, it's a hard sell, watching your videos, to say you're protecting ... Anything.
I don't care how many starlings you shoot, but I do care about hunting rights, and even more about gun rights. I think you're damaging both . Yes, it's silly, I agree... But everything the left does is silly, but that doesn't seem to bother them.
Be quiet bro
Its on his own land and it's farm land this is just pest control. Nothing wrong here.
Not a fair comparison at all because you didn’t use a slug in the PCP , the fx could shoot heavy slug or at least 34 grain and even more with speed up to 1000fps
You are beeeeesssssssst!!!!!!!!!!!! Blocketh
I am 77 years old . I enjoy your airgun videos, especially the hunting ones,
A huge thank you for this good person who is genuine in his curiosity and benevolence. Knowing more about airguns and inselves, I fully endorse this comment.... but in my humble opinion, @dougiefresh3767 you have something to make up for by expressing yourself like that in the comments on such a harmless video 😎😎
@blockethoutdoors This was an unfair comparison as you did not tune your FX M3 to shoot higher grain slugs at higher velocities. I have an M3 22 cal, and I have it tuned to shoot 38gr slugs at roughly 1000fps which is 80 plus Ft/lbs of energy. I can guarantee the FX will put down those ground hogs very easy, I hunted coyotes with no issues. Love the work but tune your FX for the job and move to slugs, you will be amazed what you can hunt.
he just made a video doing exactly that i think he read ur comment
I got the FX M3 800 mm .22 barrel with the Huma extra high pressure reg set at 170 bar valve set at 4 ¼ lines and micro adjuster at 3.7 with he slug kit and tungsten hammer, and I'm slinging 34 grain Griffin boattail hollow points at 1115-1130 fps and 40 grain Griffin boat tails at 1040-1050 fps and it is spot on. It's 5 inches of drop at 100 yards with a 50-yard zero.
ow boy now we talking ..a guy who knows his air rifle ..glad you came in man .👍
Yes and because you're shooting slugs which have a much higher ballistic coefficient and are not affected by wind anyway near as much as pellets and they are much flatter shooting and maintain their velocity and impact energy as well. As to letiality the FX loaded with Hybrid air rifle slugs (very soft near pure lead hollow points) are actually More Lethal than standard or Hollow point 22 rimfire ammunition. Far more tissue damage and larger wound cavity and for practical purposes the Air rifle round expends very nearly 100% of it's stored kinetic energy inside the target animal
@jerrykmack3074 I know all about ballistic coefficients and gyroscopic stability and twist rates and spin drift and everything else, and yes, air rifle ammo is more expansive than 22lr. That's all I do is test airgun ammo from manufacturers. In my own opinion, AVS and Griffin ammo are far more superior to the rest. I use JBM ballistics and game animals to test their ammo, and those 2 companies seem to do the best as far as bc and energy transfer go in my own opinion.
more 30. cal air rifle hunting
or even .22 air pistol
FX one of the best airguns in the market? I've worked on some dogs right of the box. They aren't consistently good. Many require somee work from the off. There are better rifles.
I like 22 better
Another good video! You need to check out the Vulcan v3 if you really want to compare.22 to .22 ! I’m shooting 40g slugs at 1030fps and making serious power with crazy good accuracy!
I've heard good things about the Vulcans. Were you able to get that power right out of the box? To get that power out of a .22 FX you'd need to buy a slug kit.
@@blockethoutdoors mine is from talon tunes and you can order it how you want. But everything is easily adjustable and you can get crazy performance with the stock configuration! I have a couple badly made videos on my channel showing off what it’s capable of. You can go from 18g pellets to 45g slugs without buying anything. And the best regulator on the market.
Video number 89 of asking blocketh for a fx wildcat
I just learned something. I never would have guessed groundhogs can climb trees.
I hunt them all the time and never knew that either!!
They’re the largest in the squirrel family.
They are called treehogs

Groundhogs can climb trees?!?
i swear. you never miss. you are a great shot no matter how far

Bro has spent almost 100.000 dollars on guns☠️
You need to talk to Utah airguns that's all they kill out to 250 yards
Hey Blocketh idk much about guns but I know that to shoot the slugs you need a slug liner or something like that.
I had a slug liner in when tuning for slugs. Swapped it back out for the pellet liner for the video
@@blockethoutdoors Hi ty for responding I’m a huge fan! Hey btw can you go back to posting slingshot videos? I miss the old days when u used to go slingshot hunting.
Under 5 minutes gang
👇
i think within 50-60yards id stick with the pcp over the .22 lr
slugs work perfectly with FX you need to make adjstment around 900 fps
Make a video of a hatsan blitz hunting groundhogs with the full auto
wat the hell that air rifle can looks like it can litteraly shoot down a whole deer
Dude your groundhogs are evolving to treehogs if I where you I’d keep an eye out for some with wings in the silos
Love the content please do a sig Sauer mcx 177 review 🎉😂🎉
Just found your channel. Good comparison on the pellet and long rifle. I think that it could be a closer contest if you shot a .22CB against the pellet. The CB, though still heavier, is much lighter than the long rifle. I use the. 22CB's when rabbit and squirrel hunting in the country, and a .177 1200fps when around any dwellings. Especially starlings and house sparrows in my back bird feeders. Lots of fun and a great, cheap way for a lover of the outdoors to keep his seventy-five year old scope eye in tune.
Man I love you’re hunting videos maybe the best ones on TH-cam.
This is a really cool video to compare these guns
There are much better videos out there. The youngster narrating the video lacked knowledge and experience, and If you want surer kills with pellets, use "Hades" JSB's. Very impressive expansion, very accurate, and same size weight as what he was shooting.
Energy is energy.. 22 subs at 40 grains at 980-1000fps is no different than a 40 grain 22 slug at the same velocity. The energy at target will be about the same as well because the BC will be basically identical. The soft pure lead slugs we have in the pcp world are damn devastating at around 1000fps on shots 100y and in. The energy transfer on those slugs is much higher than it is on much harder 23 lr slugs not to mention the airgun slugs have a much larger hollow point and cavity. Some of the griffin slugs I have leaving at around 75ftlbs and reaching the target at 60-65ftlbs on short shots... those slugs will not pass thru a Grey squirrel on a heart lung shot. It's amazing the sound they make on flesh is nuts. That instant energy transfer is nasty. On birds it literally sounds like a fire cracker going off.
My FX Panthera in .22 shoot slugs great, but I gotta put it over a chrono every time before I go hunt.
Is it because it's that inconsistent?
Do you need to re zero it also?
@@mikewhitman745 weather changes effect the panthera/dynamic line quite a bit. I’ll have to play with the adjustment wheel a little to get the optimal speed. Typically don’t need to re zero once I get the right speed. The FX M3 just isn’t good for heavy slugs IMO. They get really hold sensitive pushing a lot of power.
I hit a sparrow at about 10 yards with .30 cal FX and it exploded!
I found your comment about slugs change their groupings all the time interesting. I experience the same thing. Anyone else?
Did you have the fx turned up full power with solid slugs just a strong as long rifle
True
Dude your crazy your M3 would kill a groundhog at a hundred yards
It’s not really ideal though
@@nickallen8333 actually it is, he made poor shots. the first groundhog was 2 mil high for his shot, the second one was good but still high about a mill for the off switch. you can anchor them with 30fpe you literally dont need more unless you dont have a precision one capable of laserbeam headshots
@@V3g3t41987 you CAN but it’s not ideal. With the 18 pellets the trajectory is really loopy and the BC just isn’t there. If you are going to make shots at 100 yards then you are going to be much better off tuning the gun to push heavier slugs faster. Even then you are going to be spending thousands of dollars on a pcp/compressor when in reality you could buy a 500 dollar CZ 457 in .17 hmr/.22 mag and have a way more capable gun. I say this as someone who owns multiple PCPs.
@@nickallen8333 he was hunting at like 5 yards for the ground hogs lol which is something he doesnt do often seeing as he didnt use holdunder off rip
@@V3g3t41987 go back and reread the comments you are replying to. We are talking about 100 yards.

It's not a scam looks like you simple need to learn more about how to tune slugs 😂
Expand your toolbox. Too many "gun guys" don't own or have any interests in knives, archery, black powder, .625 big bore blow guns and of course adult high powered air guns. You severely handicap yourself by not having Plan A), B), C), D), E), F).......
I gotta ask why those guns. Why do you affect. There are so many higher quality guns out there that you chose. That piece of shit is very weird. And it’s weird because it affects his paying people like you to start shooting those guns so I gotta ask you did you get paid. Did they give you that gun free or an extreme discount. And why wouldn’t you shoot an aea . They won Utah’s competition last year first and 2nd place to Chinese guns against 98FX air rifles. What does that tell you. They also have their 58 caliber air rifle that shoots Sabot 215 grain 30 Cal slugs at 2140 FPS. And a half inch group at 100 yard so I gotta ask you why that gun.
Hey blocketh love your videos happy shooting! that M3 looks sick Id love to see maybe like iguana hunting
I have hunted with air rifles in the past but at the moment l am using a .22lr for small game. CCI Blazer and Eley high velocity hollow points give me very good accuracy. Strangely Eley hollow point standard velocity was not at all accurate. I shoot a Sako Finnfire with a Leupold 4-12X40 scope.
Watch those guys in South Africa shoot monkeys with an FX solid slugs you underrate the gun. You don’t understand the FX capabilities. So I don’t think your comments are worthy for the gun watch airarmshuntingsa those guys are in another league comparisons to you. Sometimes you just have to realise you are just Jonny average cheers for the content
You should try the mossburg 702 plinkster my dad has it and killed a bunch of small game with and it's only $100
Man, I wish I can help you with the tuning process. Which barrel do you have in there the superior or superior heavy? In my opinion .2175 diameter works the best in the superior and superior heavy barrel. I make my own slugs I can send you to try. All the superior barrels I’ve tested all like that diameter. I also have one of the original slug liners which liked .218. You send me the shipping label and I’ll send you the slugs for free
ur hunting videos make me want to go hunt too lol
cant though, airgun rifles are too expensive for me

With the M3, you could also move up to the hollow points or expanding pellets. They are great for hunting.
or could have gotten a Hatsan Piledriver .35 / 9mm with 400joules of power, wayy more and only 1000bucks.

Big fun from the philippines..love all your air riffle.i wish i can have 1😊😊BTOD

Where do you get the money to buy all these air guns? I know some must be sent for you to review them. Then do the air rifle companies want you to send them back? You have to be rich because you buy so many guns.
So you shoot for group on a target that has previous holes shot in in it ?
I would have scrolled earlier if not commenting but really nice footwear.
The 22 shot in the tree was a bad shot. No backstop and aimed in the air. I would take it with the airgun, but not the 22lr.
manufacturers need ti make left handed bolt actions more readily available.... i feel discriminated against. lol
I wish i could teach my dawg about these airguns. Kinda remind of me of a american AirairmsSA. Great vids
What’s the volume difference on those rifles? I’m looking for something to control pests without alarming the neighbours.
Have you ever tried CCI 22 quite? Basically 40 grain at 800fps. Kinda a happy medium.
I think you under rate that pcp, Matt Dubbins and many others have taken bigger game at longer distances
nice i have both
did you dont now fx inpact have more power then .22 gun
You should get every single air rifle cheap to expensive don’t worry not right away you can save up. I’m 11 years old and I love your videos I kinda wish they were longer but I do know you can get busy. All the videos are 10 out of ten
If you want to see what a FX M3 can do go see Matt Dubber....you are highly underestimating it
You should get a Vudoo and test it against the Anschutz! 😁
Are you paying for the rifles?
@@coryb6722 If he can afford to buy a 1710 and throw away thousands on cheap junk, he can afford a Vudoo! 🥴
I saw 4 good size. G hogs yesterday. On a hillside. Grubbing around. for food.
Could you make comparisons test between these two rifles on speed of the pellet and bullet of .22cal. in (feet /second)
Both are tools for specific purposes!
I'm sure the 2nd ground hog pulled the 1st one in the hole. If your shot on the 2nd one was 1/4" to the right out would have been dead on the spot. It's dead, just not right there.
Keep the videos coming. I enjoy them. Maybe toss out cut up apples to get them out a tiny bit more to get better kill shots.
yes you should have used slugs for the M3 and not pellets other wise is not accurate test. maybe you should redo the video.
They're both high pressure air rifles.
How they get the pressurized air is the only difference.
Whe do you live in US?? Can we hunt together?? I think we have common brain frequencies.❤
U should get a “ aea challenger pro lb in 30-35 cal it makes anywhere from 150-190 fpe 🙏🏽
I’d go with the 22lr but suppress it so you get the quiet benefits of the air rifle
Your next vid should be hunting with a air rifle from Facebook marketplace
Not a fair comparison, taking into account that the m3 is probably around 4 thousand dollars how its set up
Where do you get the money from for all these expensive rifles and scopes,,just wondering ?!
Beyond 100yrds with 22 one should use subsonic rounds because like air rifles...950fps is the optimal velocity. Once your straddling and breaking sound barrier your spinning lead is going to develop a swirling tendency from changes in the airs pressure (wind).
Thank you for making another video
Usaste el Impact M3 en su potencia más baja, lo subestimaste podrias haber usado slugs pesadas a mayor velocidad para obtener un mayor rendimiento y ahi si hubieran sido muy similares el M3 y el .22lr en potencia y precisión, saludos
Please do more vids even if it’s just taking an air rifle out and blasting the sparrow and starlings
