    In this Fusion 360 tutorial, I'll show you how to design and print unique, sculptural plant pots!
    During the design process, we’ll cover a variety of useful tools including the create form (AKA T-spline) workspace, creating cylinder forms, creasing edges, doing complex modeling with the "edit form" tool, converting T-spline forms into solid bodies, boundary fills, hollowing out complex forms without using the shell tool, the revolve tool, checking wall thicknesses with the section analysis tool, scaling, slicing and printing!
    ------- Contents of this video -------

    For those who are having an issue with your boundary fill volume not turning green - make sure the top and bottom planes intersect with your vase. Remember - boundary fill is all about creating a fully enclosed volume. It might look enclosed from a distance, but if you zoom in, there may be a gap. Try using offset planes to slightly raise/lower your construction planes. Hope this helps!

      Iv been stuck on this forever, no matter what i do it still won’t work and I’ve done everything you said to do, maybe im doing it wrong but i put an offset plane at the bottom of my vase then made another offset on the top then did boundry fill and still didn’t turn green, please try to help, im trying to print this befor Mother’s Day for a gift for my mom.

    For anybody struggling on the boundary fill part of the tutorial, make sure that the vase is either touching the ground plane or create an offset plane that lines up with the bottom of your vase and then select it and the top offset plane along with your vase. Hope that helps.

    Thank you! I’ve probably watched 75 Fusion videos by now, and this is the first time I’ve seen this feature explained. I’ve watched multiple videos where they describe how to do this sort of design without using the form tools and it is SO much harder to do. I’ve designed a number of votive/tealight holders and it’s such a pain to do, and this looks like it will make my life much easier.

    Great tutorial. Im just getting into fusion 360 having only used tinkercad before, so this really helps. One tip I've found to save print time and material is instead of hollowing out the object, export as a solid shape. Then when slicing (I use cura) slice with 0 top layers and 0% infill. I find 5-8 bottom layers and 5 perimeters is usually enough to make a strong enough vase/pot and saves all that extra material used printing different inner and outer shapes plus the infill.

      Thank you! I think that many of us makers come to Fusion from a Sketchup, AutoCAD or other engineering CAD software, where T-spline modeling (the form workspace) is not as prevalent. I feel like there's a huge subset of the 3D modelling community who primarily do this style of modelling, like video game designers, CGI, etc. Two different worlds?

    I never used this feature set although I would say I'm quite expericed in CAD. It seems to be more of a tool animators use rather than engineers :D
    But it's seriously a game changer when designing organic forms

    • @MorleyKert
      @MorleyKert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had another idea how to hollow the inside out. Wouldnt it be possible to create a copy of the Body, but shrink its size so it is 2 thicknesses shorter. Then use the Combine tool to Cut the bodies with eachothers. Because your solution makes me feel material is wasted since some parts will be thicker then other. With body minus body, the outer thickness would be constant everywhere

When I double click on the middle line and scale it works fine. But when doing the top and bottom it starts to curve before I even get to rotating it.

      Yes but you can cheat with overextrusion and/or a bigger nozzle (for example with a 0.4 nozzle, set wall thickness to 0.6 or 0.8). And once you filled with dirt, the piece is more solid (and without seams).
      And a random tip : you can coat the inside with a mix of silicon and white spirit to make it watertight

    well, thanks for the tutorial but I have no idea how to get past the boundary fill step as my object does not "turn green". Your object seems to be perfectly aligned on the xy plane, and it has an exact height that you can snap to, which seem important to properly create the offset plane that you talk about, but you did not explain that. I was eventually able to get around that by using a different method of creating the planes, namely the "Plane through three points", one at the top and another at the bottom of the pot.

    • @NotFromConcentrate
      @NotFromConcentrate 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I was stuck here but I figured it out. In the video, he clicks the origin (XY) plane and his construction plane. I was assuming since I made my sketch on the origin XY plane that it was tangent to the edge of my mesh, but it wasn't. So my fix was just to make two offset construction planes, one for the bottom, and one for the top. You don't have to drag to snap these or know the offset height, just create the construction plane, and then click the top of your object (or bottom) and it will snap to it. Then it worked for me.

    Trying to follow along but right off the bat my fusion is behaving differently. When I create a cylinder in the form workspace I don't have the "operations: as new body" option at all, and when I type in the diameter it just creates a random height cylinder and doesn't give me the tool panel to change the faces etc. What is going on with my fusion?

      You can print in vase mode with 0 top layers. You will get a vase with a single wall. Not waterproof. Or you can print in normal mode, wit let’s say 3 walls (perimeters), 4 bottom layers and 0 top layers. You will get a more sturdy vase that you easily can waterproof with some primer and clear coat on the inside. The water usually leaks through the bottom and boarder between bottom and walls.

    I have a F360 problem that I haven't been able to overcome or find a good explanation for. When I am going about an F360 design, I create sketches and extrude to a body. Later on I will move, align, or join the body and it moves out of line with the sketch. It becomes hard to manage the body via the sketch. How do I better keep this all aligned and easily managed?

    • @MorleyKert
      @MorleyKert  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question! It can be frustrating when you move a body and the accompanying sketch stays stationary. If you go back to the sketch in the timeline and edit the sketch, all of the changes will still propagate forward to the present feature, even though it’s no longer aligned with the body. Hope this helps! 😊

    • @gg48gg

    • @MorleyKert
      @MorleyKert  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe so, at least not that I’ve found. I try not to move/scale things around too much for that exact reason - just a bit tricky to wrap your head around the sketch/body relationships when things start moving!

    I kept getting that overlap error when trying to finish form.
    I couldn't figure out where the problem was. I'm not so good with Fusion. sigh.
    But I figured out a workaround. That is, after each step, I "finish form."
    If it errors, then I have to redo that step.
    If it is fine, then I can just press CTRL+Z to bring the form editor back up.
    However, I can't get to the point of the construction plane.
    I create the plane, but when I try to click on Select Cell, the damned body and planes disappear!
    They return if I click on the top option that shows 3 objects selected.
    Fusion can be a real pain for someone who is not proficient in it!

      @@fsouzajr I had the same issue. The way I fixed it is by adjusting the height of the offset plane from 150 mm to 149 mm (this was the height of my model). Basically, the idea is that the height of the offset plane must be within the boundaries of the vase and not larger than the height of the vase. I also moved my model slightly below 0 on the y-axis.

      check that the planes used for the bounding are coincident with top and bottom of the body you've created, I had this issue as well and it was because when messing around with the form I ended lifting it up off the origin and the origin plane wouldn't bound the body any more.
