I knew someone would tell it like it is! Thanks for that!! Experience is definitely personal, it’s a coincidence how we got the same experience 😂. As a wife, mother of 2, working to live and introverted individual, I’m having an overwhelmingly 18:30 tough time at the big 4 I’m currently in (been with 2/4 so far, now I know indeed - they’re all the same! ) Nonetheless, I’ve had to do a lot of reflecting and take big decisions. The impact of staying in an environment that’s stressful and pressurised (when you’re not built for such) can have some serious effects - E.g anxiety => fatigue => disengagement => etc ! No one warned me about these effect and I confused them with who I am but i now understand that it’s only how my body and brain responds to such situations. I’m still unsure about my decision but I gain reassurance when I see videos like this, that I am not crazy, the environment really is toxic!
You’re absolutely spot on! I can relate as well with the anxiety that comes from a high pressured environment, Loved them for the pros but Happy to miss Big4 definitely.
I think these so-call BIG4 just has the hype, well probably the ones in the country that i live. For 1 particular BIG 4, I was successful in an interview and was contacted with a verbal offer by the HR Manager. The HR immediately stated that the only problem was that they would be unable to reach my requested salary request, however, i could still think about it and she would email a copy of the offer. I was still opened to gaining the experience so i did not decline via our phone convo and was excited to receive the actual email. Unfortunately, i was ghosted after the telephone conversation and the HR never send the email as promised. The HR didn't even show up to the actual interview, i was interviewed directly by a Partner🙄.
I worked for a top 10 firm and I agree. They put a lot of pressure on you whilst their communication isn’t amazing, and I felt they’d nit pick at small things whilst ignoring positives. I also felt like just a number there as well as well given how large they are. I left and I was honestly sooo much more happier it actually made me realise the effect it had on my mental health. I think in life you need to be happy and whilst I think it can be beneficial having certain companies on your CV, I don’t see the point if you’re unhappy in the job and i don’t think the money necessarily always justifies staying (unless you’re getting paid hundreds of thousands which isn’t like most entry positions 😂).
You are correct, I remember a friend's friend complained about some of this. she was deppresed because the pressure and expectations were much, Now she works as an accountant in a company which pays higher.
Jeez sounds like a WHOLE lot! Honestly, most people just get desperate for the BIG 4 cause of the prestige. In the long run, it could get really depressing. Like whyyyyy do I have to slave for years to make money?🤦🏾♀️ no offense to people who work there or wanna work there. Just airing my opinion. I love your videos and how you speak so fluently!
Best and brightest 😂😂😂. I know them in Nigeria here, the Tower! So spot on. I can relate to all of them especially being introverted, the eye service and projecting the "brand".
Hey I hope you're doing well. I had a question and hope u can give me some insight. I'm going to school for accounting (from Canada as well specifically GTA) and will be going the public accounting route. My "plan" is to work for 2-3 years in public accounting and get my CPA with specialty in Tax. With my experience and CPA, would I be able to go the contractor route work during the busy season ? Would this be doable for someone like me who would only have 2-3 years of public accounting experience ? I was also wondering, is there always contract roles during the busy season ?
My question is why doesn't anyone speak about ACCA FA1 for someone who is doing this qualifications for the first time , it seems everyone started at the ACCA level?
You said not good for introverts (so their culture is toxic, not inclusive). Then I perceive a lot of politics and sycophancy because this is majorly the attributes of talkatives (extroverts). I also suggest people should not impress others by trying to show they are performers like you said, that's unnecessary pressure. Don't please people. Do your work, push back when you are on leave, push back the work of others that are not sick, not on leave or busy. Focus on your mental health. You did not add that there's a lot of disrespectful and lazy superiors with the 80's mentality of management using retaliations and intimidations. (Read that elsewhere) It's a rollercoaster ride and a waste of young people's time and talent, if you say it's monotonous. That can't be fulfilling or exciting. Do not start your career at the big 4 if that's the case. Forget about the name on your CV, they are just brainwashing you.
Can’t agree with all your deductions but you’ve got salient points. Just like every job, there are skills that make it easier to survive there. Doesn’t make it toxic in my opinion, it’s about suitability. - E.G. Storytelling is useful for marketing , Skepticism useful for audits/investigations, Introversion may just not be great for a job that involves selling the brand at some point. For those in core IT, they have Business Analysts doing the people side of things while they get to stay introverted and run their codes. Haha. - I totally agree with not pleasing people at your own mental health’s expense, hence why it’s good to get the vast experience for as long as you can enjoy it and leave if one has to.
Thanks for watching guys!

Yeah, you really have to choose YOU once you start to burn out.

😂Your mouth is bad. lol
@@coachbetsy 😂😂😂
I've heard about this toxic culture within consulting firms. People just chase the name.
Really valid. Best to start out and consider if you can manage with other life commitments like raising a family.
Great video Betsy ✅✅
Yes totally agree. Thanks a lot Hope 👏
