I admire your forbearance :) I put the ball of yarn in a ziploc bag just open enough to pull the yarn through. It can fall on the ground or whatever without getting sand on it.
Hi from Western Australia, winter here, and yes I knit anywhere and everywhere. I have a spot in my handbag set aside for a small knitting/ crocheting project. So I always have it with me just in case I can knit a row. I find using circular needle better for travelling as they are more compact and less likely to loose a needle or poke thru the bag. And in waiting rooms or in planes I don’t end elbowing anyone!
I travel a lot Kristen so have knitted on many beaches ... the surprise tip for me here was about Mohair! I usually take mindless memory knits to the beach - like hats - one skein project sans patterns in a plasticky pouch! Thanks this was fun! 🌞🏊🏻♀️⛱
Always knit on vacation at the beach all day! People always stop and are amazed lol. One couple even begged me to sell them the baby socks I was knitting and I did Hahahahahahaha
💕 Loved this! I have two small children and go to the beach for their enjoyment. I too am pretty pasty and hate sunscreen. I tend to hang out in the beach tent while the kids hang out in front of it plastered in sunscreen, lol. We're on the west coast which seems to be better suited for beach knitting (IMHO).
Love it! I’ve just designed a bag for this very purpose the thought of sand getting into my bags fills me with horror so I got some water repellent marine canvas and it’s perfect for poolside
I knit at the beach all the time but I can't stand people staring at my knitting 🤣. Also one time I got a question about what I'm knitting and the response was, "Socks? In Bali?". Yes it's basically a beautiful tropical island but I was knitting a wool socks so I totally get the weird look
Like you, I am not a fan of the beach for all the same reasons. However, I do camp and knit while camping, so many of the tips still apply, minus the sand! Knitting lake side and fire side is so much nicer than the beach. Thanks for the entertaining video.
I love the mineral powder sunscreens! Not sticky, great for hands, arms and face. Can really use it all over, just a bit $$. Keeps my translucent, freckled skin from burning!
I was in the final stretch of my Soldotna crop, so in addition to ☑️ wet wipes, ☑️ metal needles, I brought a CLEAN cotton t shirt to put on my lap underneath my lump of wool: no transfer of SPF, less heat generated by wool. Proud thrower too.
That was great Kristin! I don’t usually knit at the beach because of some of the things you said, but great tips. I usually bring a book but I may start bringing my sock knitting to the beach if I ever get there this year. 🤷🏻♀️
portuguese knitting! all tension controlled by passing the yarn over your neck and much more relaxing for the hands. There are some tutorials online ;)
I recently got a new Nivea sunscreen cream-gel 30spf, which is REALLY completely dry to touch after 10s from applying. It's the first time I've found something that comfortable, after years of searching. Highly recommended!
The intro got me rolling on the floor with laughter. I rewound it like sixteen times 🤣🤣 But after a few minutes into the video, I was like ... ahhh! I get it
I am the same. I am either a bed sheet or a lobster. In the summer I buy the highest SPF and practically apply it with a putty knife, sit in the shade, and I still within ten minutes without fail look like a lobster.😒
Living in FL, I try to wear sunscreen every day! Hardly ever get to the beach though, it’s too hot. When I do go (in the winter), I have an easy to assemble beach tent that I use to escape the sun!
I have knitted at the beach but at a beach house and on the deck. Not with the sand. I grew up next to the beach and I love the waves and the wind and views but the sand...Nope!! Its nice once in a while just to get away.
I just have naturally clammy hands all the time! I hate it. I flick my yarn too and my yarn seldom slides how I want it but I can’t go back to throwing because it doesn’t feel secure enough to me anymore lol.
i love knitting at the beach! But... i find knitting in Martha's Vineyard/Cape Cod much easier as it's not as humid as it is in good ol' Jersey beaches. Flicking on Jersey beaches or just in the backyard is frustrating bc the yarn starts to feel gummy in my hands = too much drag on yarn = gauge changes.eeeek! I did get some strange looks while knitting on the beach but hey, how long can you stare at the really hairy guy/bear shirtless in front of you 😳😜
I just avoid the beach and if I am peer pressured into going to the beach then I just leave the knitting in the car. Knit all the way there and back. I live in Georgia and it’s just too hot and especially humid. Sandy yarn is just awful. I’m also rather pale so I feel your pain there!
I know I’m super late, but since summer is coming up: Japanese and Korean sunscreens don’t make you feel sticky and gross and typically won’t cause a white cast :)
Since I live 300 miles from the beach & have 2 young daughters, I wouldn't knit there even if I wanted to. There are always sand castles to build and waves to jump over.
La Roche-Posay has assorted, really good sunscreens-a little higher priced; Think Baby 50spf, Neutrogena Pure Baby 60spf-lower priced...good organic markets will have a variety, some non-sticky depending on the brands-various prices. :-D

Hi Trudy! Excellent plan - I never regret packing "just in case" projects and circulars were truly a genius invention!
me too! i bring some kind of knitting with me always. my family is used to it by now.
Living vicariously through your beach trip.

Yesss! Mindless memory knits FTW. The beach is supposed to be relaxing so the knitting may as well be, too! 😄
I mainly knit socks on the beach. Mostly in Spain. You get some funny looks when knitting wool socks in 30+ degrees heat on a Spanish beach.
Always knit on vacation at the beach all day! People always stop and are amazed lol. One couple even begged me to sell them the baby socks I was knitting and I did Hahahahahahaha
That's hilarious!! And awesome. Good for you!! Also, "freaking out the muggles" is a favorite pastime of mine ... especially on the beach! 😂

Hah! They only wish they knew how to knit a pair of socks. One of my favorite things about knitting in public is freaking out the muggles 😂
Hilarious episode! Thanks for sharing your feelings. So kind of you to go to the beach with your husband! 💖
I've fulfilled my wifely duty for the summer! 🤣🤣🤣
Great tips. Thanks
Great fun! Actually a small needlepoint project works well, too. But only if it’s Nantucket.
Ooh, I've never tried needlepoint at the beach, Carla. I'll have to give it a try sometime! :D

So glad you enjoyed, Diana! Ugh... lakeside/fireside knitting sounds heavenly. 🙌 ... Save for the spiders which I'm TERRIFIED of. 😂
I crochet at the beach, I crochet everywhere! :)
YESSSS!!! Can't stop, won't stop. I like you're style, Luz. 😏
luz mendoza Me too, I usually replenish our dishcloth inventory.

YESS! I've been wanting to try Portuguese knitting. It looks so interesting!
Paula Spranger I have always wanted to you tube that!

Pleasent lil video, as usual!
Yay! So glad to hear your crafting mojo is coming back 😄👏👏👏

🦞🤪 Lobster happens. 😂
@@Voolenvine 🤣

Thank you for a great video!
Crafting everywhere is needed!! Even at the beach cause it gets boring their lets be real here haha I crochet even in the ER 🤷♀️
Agreed! Once you've seen one wave, you've seen them all, IMHO 😂
Voolenvine exactly!! Nothing new happening lol

I need to rip a page out of your book and bring a tent. That sounds like a brilliant idea!

Feel summery by knitting a little cotton washcloth or dishtowel. You can be distracted and not much will go wrong!
Pale beachhaters of the world, unite!! I’ve never understood the appeal of baking under a hot sun on a dump of sand.
I just have naturally clammy hands all the time! I hate it. I flick my yarn too and my yarn seldom slides how I want it but I can’t go back to throwing because it doesn’t feel secure enough to me anymore lol.
I keep a small bottle of baby powder in my bag. Just a sprinkle and your hands are dry and the yarn slips through like magic.

I hear that. Sometimes the humidity wins. 😪

Ooh! Thanks for letting us know, Gillian. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled next time I'm at Wholefoods or something :D
