Loved watching you brew your concoctions! The process is so intriguing, interesting and amazing! You’re totally awesome!! I agree with navy pretending to be black. Keep the lovely vlogs and videos coming. 🥰
This video was so fantastic. I would LOVE to see more glimpses into the dye studio, your colour sense is so unique and this colour is so very Voolenvine!
I can't wait to see that corner re-designed! The moment you "dropped" the "alpine blue" it was an "ouch" moment :)) That final color way is absolutely yours. I love it!
OMG Thank you so much for showing how the sausage is made. I have wondered how you all get the lovely muted tones - layering of color over the top of each other - who knew? (well clearly you do).
I love navy, it's actually so much more interesting than boring black! ;) (Which I wear a lot, but it *is* so ubiquitous!) The same goes for dark espresso; nothing "impostor" about them :) Black's the impostor, if anyone... But loved to see the dye process! I've used fabric dyes & tea dyeing before, but not this. I wonder if one can dye any type of yarn, or does it need to be a specific type..?
This was so fun to watch! I am new to your channel and am an instant fan. It's so generous of you to share these tips as your yarn is absolutely beautiful. If you ever give a full class on this, sign me up.
How fun to see your process! I love that you are a eyeballer too...I call myself a rebel dyer because I don't really follow the rules lol. Thanks for sharing: it was so fun to watch!
Love this so much!! You should take us dying more often, i enjoyed watching the process so much! I think I would have a hard time restraining myself with the speckles 😂😂😂
Whoa, that turned out incredible, Kristin!! I am a huge fan of (and relatively newly addicted to) your aesthetic. I'm currently knitting a sweater and about to separate for sleeves (my own design) which includes Taiga (DK and Ghostlace) ...and It is incredible. Can't wait to share the deets on IG, I hope to do you proud!!
That colorway is beautiful! How do you dye more than one skein and get fairly consistent color on each skein? I know variation is expected with hand dyed yarn, but it seems like it is tricky to get the color across skeins evenly. (I hope that makes sense!) Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks! I just started dyeing as a side hobby and it's fun to see what other people's processes are. I tried dyeing blue minis last night and accidentally ended up with all Fall colors, hehe. Blue is hard!
I like the two test skeins the best. This colorway needs a green counterpart. You could call the blue one City Cousin and the green one Country Cousin.
I loooooooove the colorways you come up with. 😍😍😍 funny story, I literally wear heather blue shirts aLmost everyday. I have a weird obsession with heather blue t shirts. But I never knit with blue yarn. 😂
Voolenvine 😂😂😂it’s funny . As much as I wear it , I’ve never been drawn to knit with it. But I’m one of those weird people and I have a drawer full of the same blue T-shirt. Maybe I consider it too utilitarian to knit with. I never realized I didn’t knit it blue till watching this. And I agree with navy pretending to be black.,.... I am loving the Harrisville yarns that are black with other colors speckled through. Those are pretty
Absolutely beautiful!!! What would you call that speckling technique? I've only seen the "low immersion" kind. Absolutely loved it! Blue in all shades are my favorite!!!
This was wonderful!! As always all your yarn is gorgeous! I have been considering giving yarn dyeing a try. If you don’t mind me asking where do you purchase your bare yarn for dyeing?
I found this fascinating! I myself am definitely a "blue person", & wouldn't pick out your final colorway as a blue one, but it's still an interesting one that could be very nice.
That was fun. Loving the colors on the Nuevo base. Since everyone who got knitcrate in May received a dyeing challenge. Would love to see what you could do with two packs of koolaid.
I was wondering, if all the dye exhaust in the skein before the water comes to a simmer, is it necessary to bring it to a simmer? Will the dye not be set? Thanks so much
These are so lit 🔥. I definitely have to try this. I don’t have the exact colors but I’m curious to try my own version. You got yourself a new subbie 😁
What a great video! It was so fun to see your process... when you’re dyeing the finalized colorways do you still just use a measuring spoon? I dye for myself and I always try to measure out on a scale and I feel like it just takes the fun out of it for me! This video gave me permission to be a little more free and a little more adventurous! ❤️
Not silly at all, Emmy. Great question! Depending how dark the base color is, adding lighter shade on top can add a subtle hue. The main thing to remember is can't go from dark to light. I hope that helps :)
I love blue. My favorite color is blue in fact. Don't be dragging the blue please. It's not a liar. Some of us walk the thin blue line. Thanks for listening.
I thanks for the video and wanted to share a website of a knitwear designer you may like fabelknitwear.com. Some of her knitting patterns look like items you would like. Helene also has a TH-cam channel same name.
Same!! I can't tell you how many times I've tried to rock blue jeans and had the constant feeling of "I just can't be this person!" 😂 Black denim FTW! 🖤🖤🖤
Thanks so much for your concern, Anne. I always wear a respirator when dyeing and wore one for about 50% while recording this video. Hobby dyers can get away with something like a basic painting mask, but since I dye nearly every weekday, I wear a heavy-duty one. Prolonged exposure can definitely do damage. While any exposure isn't a great idea, my exposure during this video was quite brief. 😉
Loved watching you brew your concoctions! The process is so intriguing, interesting and amazing! You’re totally awesome!! I agree with navy pretending to be black. Keep the lovely vlogs and videos coming. 🥰
I enjoyed learning about how you made your color ways. Very enjoyable video. Thank you for sharing.
Learnt a lot! Watched it twice. This is not all fun n games ... it’s hard work. Kristen Thanks for sharing your expertise!!!
Wow, twice?! Thanks, lady! 😄 It's certainly a workout that will give you Michele Obama arms! 💪💪💪😂
This video was so fantastic. I would LOVE to see more glimpses into the dye studio, your colour sense is so unique and this colour is so very Voolenvine!
I LOVE how these came out!!!
Thank you for sharing your alchemy, how exciting to see a new colour way being created.
Thanks for showing us your process!
That was so much fun! Thank you! 💜💙
Love that you showed us how you do the colors and sprinkles. Very pretty.
That was SO enchanting to watch. I was captured by the dye bath and what would happen. Thank you for letting us into your studio like that!
🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 for this video I have been wanting to try this dye method but wasn’t sure I would be doing it right. Thanks for the reassurance.
Your new colorway is so beautiful! thank you for sharing your creative process, it is so interesting!
So much fun, thank you!
Like the new color, blue and this tutorial. Thank you. 😊
Forbidden Fruit... great color way and great name! 🐨🇦🇺
Very fun and fascinating! Thanks for sharing a bit of your techniques and inspirations.
That is gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing the process. It was so fun to watch.
I’ve just come across your video and love it, I love muted, muddy, moody colour ways. Would love to see more
Beautiful colorway!
Love the colour way. I want to try some yarn dying when it gets warmer here. It looks like a lot of creative fun. 😁
Thank you for sharing this process. I absolutely love how this color turned out! I would love to see more videos like this.
Glad you enjoyed, Melissa. I can make that happen! 😄
Thank you! This is such a great video and I love the yarn you created :)
Great video! Thank you! I’m loving all your vlogs lately!
This was fun to watch. I love the enamel sifter - it makes speckling way easier!
I have no desire to become a yarn dyer... but I loved this Video as well as the one touring your studio..
Thanks!
Thank you! Loved this video, very informative and inspiring! :) Looking forward to more...
Thank you for sharing your talent with your viewers. Lovely results!
Glad you enjoyed, Patty! 💖
Thank you so much for the info. Have a great day.
woooooow i love the color soooo much ... good job👌
Great video! I’ve enjoyed a lot. Beautiful new color!
They all came out gorgeous 😍!
I can't wait to see that corner re-designed! The moment you "dropped" the "alpine blue" it was an "ouch" moment :)) That final color way is absolutely yours. I love it!
Thanks so much, Catalina ... It totally was an "ouch" moment! I don't think you'll be seeing many blue speckles from me in the near future. 😂😂😂
Very interesting! Love this video and your results!
OMG Thank you so much for showing how the sausage is made. I have wondered how you all get the lovely muted tones - layering of color over the top of each other - who knew? (well clearly you do).
BTW would love to see more dyeing videos. So few indie dyers are willing to share their process, style, and techniques. Thanks for sharing!!!!
I love that new colourway !!:)
Fun to watch :)
Just love Forbidden Fruit! 🧶❤️
Fascinating even though I could never dye yarn.
I love navy, it's actually so much more interesting than boring black! ;) (Which I wear a lot, but it *is* so ubiquitous!) Thank you, Sara and welcome to the channel! 🤗💖 I've got some more dye vids up my sleeve. Stay tuned!
How fun to see your process! I love that you are a eyeballer too...I call myself a rebel dyer because I don't really follow the rules lol. Thanks for sharing: it was so fun to watch!
Eyeballerz unite!! Even my dye recipes have their own made-up units of measurement 😂
Love this so much!! You should take us dying more often, i enjoyed watching the process so much! I think I would have a hard time restraining myself with the speckles 😂😂😂
Thanks so much for this video. I found it very interesting.
Really loved this vlog !!!
I Really enjoyed this video! You made me want to give dyeing a try, so of course I would love more like this. The color way is beautiful.
YAY! I hope you do give dyeing a go, Suzy. It's so fun/relaxing/zen ... let me know how it goes, if you do! 🤗
Whoa, that turned out incredible, Kristin!! I am a huge fan of (and relatively newly addicted to) your aesthetic. Oooh! I can't wait to see the FO. So happy to hear you've been enjoying my yarns!! 😄
"Navy is a liar" -- funniest thing I've heard all week. I needed that laugh. Thanks!
That colorway is beautiful! How do you dye more than one skein and get fairly consistent color on each skein? I know variation is expected with hand dyed yarn, but it seems like it is tricky to get the color across skeins evenly. (I hope that makes sense!) Thanks for sharing!!

Congrats on starting to dye yarn, Dina! Isn't it funny how sometimes you set out to dye one color and end up with something completely different?😂
I love blues , don’t understand why people hate it lol.
Gorgeous
I like the two test skeins the best. This colorway needs a green counterpart. You could call the blue one City Cousin and the green one Country Cousin.
I loooooooove the colorways you come up with. 😍😍😍 funny story, I literally wear heather blue shirts aLmost everyday. I have a weird obsession with heather blue t shirts. But I never knit with blue yarn. 😂
Thanks! Hah, I love the way blue looks on others. I'm sure you pull that color off amazingly! I just can't wear it myself... #PersonalBrandOfCrazy 😂
Voolenvine 😂😂😂it’s funny . As much as I wear it , I’ve never been drawn to knit with it. But I’m one of those weird people and I have a drawer full of the same blue T-shirt. Blue in all shades are my favorite!!!
Love, love, love this episode! Anytime you wish to share dyeing of new colourways (or established colourways) please feel free 😍
Thank you for showing us the magic spells used to conjure your colorways top 🎩
🧙🏻♀️✨
This was wonderful!! As always all your yarn is gorgeous! I have been considering giving yarn dyeing a try. If you don’t mind me asking where do you purchase your bare yarn for dyeing?
I found this fascinating! I myself am definitely a "blue person", & wouldn't pick out your final colorway as a blue one, but it's still an interesting one that could be very nice.
The end result is faaaaar from blue! 😂 Do I at least get a gold star for trying? lol Glad you enjoyed, Cynthia! 💖
It looks bluer on her Instagram pic....if it’s the same yarn I’m thinking of......🥰
Of course you do 😁! There's lots of blue yarn in the world, & you made a colorway that's much more in your aesthetic and pretty to boot.
That was fun. Loving the colors on the Nuevo base. Since everyone who got knitcrate in May received a dyeing challenge. Would love to see what you could do with two packs of koolaid.
I actually learned to dye yarn using food coloring and Kool-aid. It would be fun to revisit that technique and see how my dyeing style has changed!
Yay!! Welcome to my channel, Rushia. I'd love to know how it turns out for you!! 🤗
Voolenvine once it’s done I’ll tag you on the gram
I totally get you. I am not a blue person and have a hard time knitting with blue, :)
Ooooo!...well done...they look Victorian-ish! :-D
Isn't that always what I'm going for? 😂 Thanks, Gillian! 💖
I like blue pretending to be green...but I love your results.
Sorry if this question is kind of silly but should you always start with a light base colour and add the darker colours on top of that?
Not silly at all, Emmy. Great question! Depending how dark the base color is, adding lighter shade on top can add a subtle hue. The main thing to remember is can't go from dark to light. I hope that helps :)
what is the best way for me to start dying? like how much stuff should i get? i dont want to get too much just in case i dont enjoy dying that much
My exact sentiments about navy.
When you added the skein to the pot, had it been presoaked?
Yes!! I pre-soak undyed yarn in lukewarm water for about three hours. 😊
I'm with you, I don't wear blue either...ugh! I do like a strong cobalty-practically purple, but it has to be glowing. :-D
It can't JUST be blue. There needs to be another color present to make it wearable... blue-green! blue-yellow! and yes ... blue-purple! 😋
Excuse me! Navy is my "no I don't wear ONLY black" alibi :P
I especially hate the mind tricks navy plays when shopping ... is this shirt navy? Or black? or both?! 🥴
Do you still have some Forbidden Fruit availaable?
Hi, is there any way you can give me the name of the company where you get your dyes?
DharmaDyeworks - linked in the description box :D
All the years of catholic school uniforms has pretty much put me off blue for life, besides blue jeans, never wear it either.
I love blue. My favorite color is blue in fact. Don't be dragging the blue please. It's not a liar. Some of us walk the thin blue line. Thanks for listening.
Blue is a fabulous color, Dory! -- I was poking fun at how it's my personal least favorite color to wear or work with. 😉💙
I thanks for the video and wanted to share a website of a knitwear designer you may like fabelknitwear.com. Some of her knitting patterns look like items you would like. Helene also has a TH-cam channel same name.
test pot looked better..sorry not a fan of dull greys browns blaah
I want to like blue... I want to like jeans but it’s never the right blue either
Same!! I can't tell you how many times I've tried to rock blue jeans and had the constant feeling of "I just can't be this person!" 😂 Black denim FTW! 🖤🖤🖤
Hope you’re not endangering your health by not wearing a respirator. 💗
