Coming along nicely! Make sure the filter is a ZF Filtran filter and use a high quality ATF that meets the LT71141 spec. for best results. I can't wait to see the outcome. I am of course hoping for a positive one!
Hi @Zero To 60 I'm 2 years later but I got a question, I own a 520i E39 with a ZF5HP19 transmission, do you have any idea what's the torque converter distance supposed to be, I'm talking about the distance between the torque converter and the flexplate. From what I've seen in another videos is supposed to be 4mm or so but your video is the closed I've got for my transmission and I didn't see you rearrange it or spacing it away from the flexplate, if you could give any help or advice about the torque converter installation I'd appreciate it alot! Thank you!
Unfortunately I don’t know the official spec. However 4mm sounds about right. It’s impossible to accurately measure as the converter hangs down on the input shaft.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I figured, is also really hard to drag the torque converter towards the engine once is put in position ready to be bolted in, I'll leave a comment here after I get it done, see if I failed or not, thanks for the fast reply
Hey how you doing. I watch your video and i was able to rebuilt my tranny successfully. Great video to learn from.. It been about 4 years now since i rebuilt it..for the past 6 months been sitting cuz i have to do a timing job..couple days now i keep getting code 48 for clutch lock up too much slip....i drop the fluid no metal no smell. But i do hear the tranny making a lil noise like torque converter...how should i test the converter or what should i be looking for...it drive good when its warm but 1st thru 2 gear it feel its struggling...any idea please
No, this trans repair all went well. This wasnt a performance car, this was just a daily. I kinda miss to be honest. The 8hp journey came after i dct swapped one of my cars.
@@ZeroTo60Tube It was not a straight up swap to go from E series to F series N55 but following the correct internet advice we have been victorious. Once coded DME fires the newer injectors just fine and car is running very well indeed. We did remove the second cat from the downpipe as well so it sound a little better than before. We have not driven yet but engine sounds strong. I did request that mechanic prime oil system prior to starting as I am paranoid about rod bearings now even though they are the same units used on N54 right through to B58.
great idea for a transmission jack. wish I thought of that. Do you think that it would work if you are only using floor jack stands instead of the hoist?
Nice video. Nice and clean explanation. But I noticed one thing. If I am correct, the ZF5HP24 does require the LT71141 spec fluid, which is brown colored. The fluid you used was red, so I am suspecting you used Dexron fluid.
Strangely Penrite this aussie company colour this particular oil red. It is spec'd for the ZF5. I wish i could have used dexron 3 it was about half the price of this stuff. ha.
Hey mate, can I sponser you for a creeper? I was thinking of a torque wrench for your N54 full send build, but i feel your pain on the floor.... I dont have a Happ.
So how did you connect the flywheel to the torque converter? Trans won’t work if it’s not bolted to the flywheel Never mind next time I will just wait and keep my mouth shut lol
Broken BMWs with interesting repairs, tuning upgrades and some Aussie weather to be envious of. Best car channel on TH-cam.
Very kind of you sir!!! Thanks for following along!
Great stuff and really well done getting it back in on your own, cant wait to see if it works!
How much oil needs to be poured into such a converter ? How do you know that there is full ?
This guy is a legend! Wish he was in Victoria! Keep it up brother
Damn, now we have to wait until tomorrow to see if it worked!!!
My thoughts exactly
Im also hanging out for the results too haha
Maestro después de ese proceso de reparación yo tengo q poner escanner para programar la transmisión como si fuera nueva o no ?
Haha seeing the other comments, cliff hanger! Lucky for me I'm on a catch up so straight over to the next episode on this 😉
Fingers crossed mate. It's killing us too ya cheeky bugger. Dope tunes @12:20 too!
hahaha lol.... i try and incorporate more of my beat boxing brilliance in future vids

@ 6:50 you forgot a bolt.
Made you look? 😉 Can't wait for the test drive! See you tomorrow!
you got me that time!! haha

Very nice. Hopefully it runs properly. Dutch regards, Nico.
that wheel cleaner could be handy for stripping the gal coating off parts to be welded

brother did you change your transfer case actuator gear? they jus made a brass one for the M54B30
nope, left it as is
Is this why you started to swap to the 8hp transmissions?

That transmission jack is brilliant mate - much easier than lifting it into position... PS first start of new N55 yesterday.
How's the new motor after the first start? Any issues?

Any chance we'll see an 8HP70 E53 conversion soon?
no, im sorry

It would be a little too high for jackstands, need to get the car about 1 meter off the ground.
Hold on, how do you bolt the torque converter to the crank disc?
The bolts go from the engine side in through the flex plate and in to the torque converter. There is an access hole in the sump.

You can remove the Transmission without removing the Transfer Case. It will save you time.
i was worried about the weight of it. Figured it was the lesser of two evils.
nice watch :-D
Thanks for watching
Hahaha what a boss
haha, learning as we go.... im sticking to it... I only fitted 1 torque convertor bolt twice this time.
