  • BMW X5 Slipping Issues Fixed? ZF5HP-24 Assembly
    In this video i attempt to put the ZF5HP-24a transmission back together after replacing the broken parts. Do note, so far i have only replaced the broken parts, not the worn parts. Rebuilding this transmission fully may be on the cards, but it will be a massive can of worms im not quite ready to open yet.

      Its not cheap if you send this to a workshop to rebuild it so being able to DIY is massive cost saving and gain a valuable knowledge at the same time.

    Hi! I have an e38 730d from 2001, and i have a problem where when the transmission and engine heat up, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear slip, and the car enters into "gearbox emergency program" where it only works on 5th gear. I removed the transmission's sump and found a lot of debris on the magnets (i assume from the clutch packs). I think the fault may be on the clutch packs having a lot of wear. Where did you guys found the A drum? Can you send me a link? Thanks in advance. Your video is really helpful

    I wish i found your Channel when i was rebuilding my x5 tranny.. Same here i learn from watching TH-cam for this x5..maybe you might be able to guide me or any advice. I rebuilt mine about 4 years ago..last week im getting a code for torque converter too much slipping..i look at the lived data for input and output speed sensor at tranny reading good no issue..should i replace converter or you think its more than that..

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its quite hard to give a definitive answer with out seeing and feeling the car in person, mind you even then it can be a bit of a guessing game. The torque converters are relatively easy to swap and they do play up. So might be worth starting there if you have a hunch thats the problem.

    I wonder if a normal 5HP-24a from a 4.4 X5 would work with the 4.6is computer. Might be a way to cheap out again. Also, some of the M57 models had more torque than the petrol V8s in this era but I'm unsure of interchangeability.

It was fine on first drive, second drive it was holding third or fourth depending on its mood in full auto but would run fine in manual with super smooth shifts. I reset all adaptions and got the car feeling good. Took it for a long run and then home again no problems. Checked fluids ant topped off a bit more. Day three I drove an hour and a half to Byron bay and the trans shat itself leaving me, the mrs and our baby stranded in the pissing rain. $500 on a tow truck to get it home and $380 on a cab.
