I'm an expat and live in Switzerland with my boyfriend (he's Swiss). He knew I was a little bummed because I usually go out or to a BBQ and he surprised me by bringing me an American flag that he bought from a flag store, American beer, and grilling burgers! It was probably my favorite Fourth of July even though I wasn't even in America.

We stayed home and cooked for my neighbors party later that night. I read a new book called "The dysautonomia project" , which is a great book for anyone reading this, I highly recommend it. It reminded me of you because of a doctor you put input was from Tampa Bay. I wasn't able to go until about 8:30 because of the Texas heat. We live in the country so fireworks are a plenty, so I had to wear headphones. I was outside for about an hour, then I fainted because of my POTS. I have lovely new scrapes form falling in the pavement, but my new compression socks are covering them today , they have whales on them! I realized watching that years before I was even diagnosed I can remember staying in because I was too tired, dizzy or because of the heat we always thought I had symptoms from the brain tumor I had removed when I was 10. I am so glad you had a good day!

I celebrated by feeding my horses because I have a baby horse who was born on the 4th of July so I chopped up some pears and water melon and mixed it into the feed. They loved it but if your going to do it make sure not to do a lot of the pears and water melon.

This video really hit hard- this week I 'started ' my chronic journey (I went to the doc and they are sending me to a neurologist- my sister has eds and I've had symptoms for years which are getting worse(signs of IBS, POTS, hearth palpitations as well as huge problems with joints etc)- hence the doc visit.) The part where you said you look back and grieve sometimes what you used to be able to do, I think at the moment I am grieving what I won't be able to- that my life will be different to what I initially planned. I want to say thank you though as watching you is slowly showing me that chronic illness doesn't have to be the 'end of it all- you just have to be willing to adapt to your current situation. You are definitely giving me strength, so thank you.
Could you maybe do a video about how you met/ how to meet others with chronic illnesses? At the moment, I have no one but my sister who I can really speak to about this and I'd love to know how you found people that you can relate and talk to.
I hope you have a lovely day x

I lost my love to someone being dumb with fireworks. So I don't like them either. The sound is a strong reminder. Every 4th I have his old workmates over and make a 4th of July lunch for them. Then it's an early night with my headphones on listening to music.

Also I have stage 2 breast cancer so I'm in the hospital doing a month of chemo so I didn't do anything for the 4th of July but stay at the hospital with my lovely fiancée and ate a really nice chocolate pudding!!!

I got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in may and have had to make sooo many lifestyle changes...I grieve as well for what I used to be able to have and do. But this year we spent the day at my parents (they made me special food so I could eat with everyone) with my pup. My dog does really well with them, she actually watches them and goes out of her way to see them. But the biggest surprise of the night is that my bf proposed!! He's been such a god send through all of these changes and is incredibly supportive!

We drove to a "free" fireworks show but it was so hot and they kept sending us to different lots so far away. My husband and I both have chronic illnesses and disabled parking passes but they were trying to make us park a mile away from the event, literally. Nope. We GTFO, went to 7-11 for hot dogs, grabbed a tiny bag of fireworks and let our 7 year old set them off in the driveway. He was a happy little guy. Having a super chill kid is a godsend when both parents are sick.

I have major depression and anxiety and anorexia, which I guess could generously be described as a chronic illnesses. It's a very stagnant feeling: anxious because depressed, too depressed to do much about it. Watching your vlogs, I am in awe (and envious) of the unwavering positivity you display. If you don't mind me saying, you're quite frank about what illnesses you have, and I admire the way you say you use the best of your abilities and the medical equipment available to you live a happy life -- despite the obstacles you face, you persevere. My body is healthy; my mind is my biggest obstacle stopping me from living a happy life. I really like how you said "just because it's a new reality, doesn't mean it's a worse one," because I always struggle with wanting to go back to the time when I wasn't like this. But I just need to do my best and use medical supports (now am going to a mental health program), as well as friends, to keep me afloat. Keep on keeping on.

For the fourth, I had a nice home-grilled dinner courtesy of my dad and I got to design my own fireworks show for a few friends and my parents! Fireworks and other pyrotechnic things are one of my special interests, so I make sure to pick out fireworks that don't have sounds added in like whistling so I can tolerate them better. My silly dog tries to chase the bottle rockets when the sticks fall back down. Happy late 4th, and I hope you had a fun time with your mom!

My family and I went to a family friends house for a pool party and watched the city firework show from their house since they only live a half mile away from it. I love fireworks because using different senses stimulates my brain including my sense of smell because I love the smell of gunpowder ;) The only thing that was stressful was that I had to leave my dog at home and she is terrified of fireworks. luckily we gave her a sedative pill and turned a fan on to drown out the noise. she seemed to have slept through the whole thing and was happy when I came home.

Hi Jaquie. For Canada day I didn't really do anything, my depression kept me in the house, and I've been really tired lately. I also didn't really want to celebrate because of all the horrible things happening to Indigenous people in this country, and the racism that is experienced here. The money for the Canada 150 should have been better spent on people instead, like our poorest and most wanting. I did have really good fish and chips at my Dad's house the day before which was really nice, and I've seen a few good friends this week and am feeling a little better.
Anyways, it's really nice to hear the feeding tube is helping you and the good news about some of your medication. I hope that there continues to be improvements for your chronic illnesses (and others) so you can be more comfortable!

My husband and I did nothing for Canada Day this year. :/ I don't handle large crowds well and we went to a nice fireworks show last year... So I wasn't feeling like bothering to go this year. I've accepted I can't go to everything and if I try, I'm gonna be miserable. My friend drove us to the beach yesterday and that was way more enjoyable than fireworks!

Went to Newport, OR and they set off fireworks in the middle of the bay. I love watching them from the pier.
Unluckily some one set of mortars right next to the my car and the loud noise that close to me sets off my PTSD and we had to leave early because my husband got in an argument with the guy setting them off. Anything that shoots sparks over eight feet is illegal in Oregon so the guy was committing a crime. I got showered with sparks and I had sparks land on my blanket. I had to put out the sparks and now there are holes in my blanket.

Because going out in the car causes me sooooo much pain it's not worth going out for me because I don't enjoy because of the extreme pain that I have. I've been going through this since I had an injury on my job on 7/24/91. I've had 6 surgeries since my injury. Love and prayers going out for you Jacquie. Love your videos of your family. I didn't do anything for the Fourth of July, but I did go to the mall. Did you realize that the music used during exercise portion of the video was somewhat in line with their movements ?

I'm Canadian so for Canada day me and my BF watched Silicon Valley, had restraunt food for dinner and then watched the fireworks later on in the evening! Yesterday we went down to the river and had a fire which we roasted hot dogs on even though we don't celebrate the 4th. Was just for fun. ^^

I stood home with my husband on the 4th of July because I have chronic pain and I can't handle the pain out side of my recliner. I go out only for doctors appointments. Because going out in the car causes me sooooo much pain. Love you and God Bless you real good!!! ;-)

I went to university, had lunch with friends, held a presentation and worked on my puzzle some more. No 4th of July celebrations here in Germany :D I did have a nice day, though.

Your mom is so adorable... So sad that you are not able to see each other more often!
I am sooo close to my mom... We are pretty much best friends and I could not imagine living far away from her.

I used to play in a youth orchestra during the fireworks, but playing violin has gotten painful, so instead I stayed home and watched 1776.
Also, I have a new sdit this year who's never heard fireworks so I wanted to stay home with him. He was totally chill, acted like he didn't notice the booming at all.

I'm not a fan of watching fireworks either because I get really bad anxiety at the events because of all the people, the smell bothers me and can trigger a migraine along with the brightness, and because the fireworks themselves trigger my ocd. So instead, my family and I stayed in, binged Shameless on Netflix and ordered pizza for dinner, it was pretty great.

Once you're more built up with strength you should really look into Pilates Reformer workouts. They're super low-impact because the machine helps with everything. The reformer was actually invented when Jospeh Pilates wanted to help hospital patients who couldn't get out of bed! So, very low-impact and can be specialized to help anyone for any level of ability. Plus, pilates instructors are often trained in physical therapy practices!

I didn't go to the parade because of sensory processing issues. Also my orthostatic hypotension would not have liked the heat. The Fireworks bother my tics, so not doing that either. I stayed home with my family and painted my toes today with flags and red, white, and blue!

Well, this is a bit late, but I have aspergers, a friend of mine has autism, and our other friend doesn't have either. We celebrated the fourth by hanging out together, grilling, and swimming. Then we all went and joined my family who had a spot staked out to watch our town's fourth of July parade. Which is a bit much because as part of the parade police cars and big trucks come through and they like to run the sirens a little or rev engines which is extremely loud and quite hard to deal with, but I love the parade because there are also show horses.
After the parade we went back to my friend's house and set off some ground fireworks before heading out to watch my town's big fireworks display.
After that we went back to my friend's house and played cards against humanity on her porch outside.
I was planning on spending the night at her place, but my allergies started to act up really badly so in the end I had to call my mom for a ride home (I live close to my friend's house, but it was near midnight and there was a lot of partying so my friend didn't think I should walk).
In all it was a great night, my allergies cleared up nicely by the next day and the worst I woke up with was the realization that a mosquito bit me the night before leaving a welt on my arm.

When I was a kid fireworks were the cat's pajamas at least to me but now that I'm older and my anxiety is worse, I don't enjoy them as much. The arials scare me a bit because we had a scare once when an arials firework tipped over and shot towards me and my family. No one was hurt and nothing caught fire but it scared me to my core. The fireworks that are shot off from a few miles away I can handle a bit better. In my city we can't shoot off fireworks unless we are certified and have alerted the police and fire station. Most often times we get fireworks during football games, my dog would freak out when they were going off but it wasn't ever too bad. Unfortunately June of 2016 he passed away and ever since me and my sisters have been begging for a dog and I think it would help my anxiety if I had a cuddle friend nearby.

Hi Jaquie! I was wondering - what would you like your viewers to do if they see you out and about? Would you like them to come up and say hi or just message you later in order to avoid distracting Harlow or interrupting what you're doing? I don't live in the area, but I thought it would be important for other viewers who might run into you to know what you would prefer since all TH-camrs are different! xx
