Thanks for the kind words and the throwback! Best summer of my life. - the kid who lay on the ground for the snare solo.

I love both of your reactions at 12:05! Also I really wish I could have seen this show and drumline live. So much energy and talent.

Loudest drumline I’ve heard live from the stands.

I miss the big tenor "cookie" mallets!!! they felt great, they had that full sound, you could keep your hands low and still get great quality when moving around the drums, they looked cool, and the aluminum cores REALLY cut when playing rimshots and skanks.

93 for me. Was 14 and hyped as f back than. The cadence part where they come from the back with a totally different tempo and join the brass was more than crazy

Always glad to hear some Eric Ward love. I was lucky enough to learn under him for a few years during my time at Troy. He had a big impact on my playing, including how I approach playing the kit in jazz and other other settings. I always wished we had him more involved in the drumline! But he was on another path in music. But, man, the few times he did work with us as a line... it was like you said: Drum Yoda coming down from on high to impart some wisdom. But I think the biggest influence he had was just his attitude. He was always incredibly nonchalant and calm, and very matter-of-fact in his demeanor and teaching. It made you feel sure that he knew what he was talking about, and also made him approachable. All of this really helped me focus and settle down as a player, and most importantly to just play in time more consistently and not worry so much about licks and chops. Props to y'all for the wisdom you provide, too! This channel is really a gem for anyone into marching percussion.

The clarity as the snares jump to the edge after the cowbell stuff, is still 20 years later some of my absolute favorite stuff to listen to. Learned this back in the day and I still go back and play through it often!

Seeing them live was such a hype. Never seen anyone hit the drum that hard. Crystal clear quality. Unisons that would split your head open. Insane. Definitely a legendary era.
