Was it me... or did anyone notice the writing at the multilayered snare build up when marching :uaround in a circle? It sounded like Scott Johnson was answering back to the writing of Boston Crusaders drumline show last year. 🤔

I am truly amazed at the Blue Devils Bass Drum section. I also have to say the tempo being performed is truly amazing considering the technical level of the show.
agreed with the analysis! I saw them live last night in the lot and in the stadium center/50. they sounded incredible with the whole corps - drill was very well written and a lot of the breaks are exposed. would not be surprised if they win this year

A lot of those moments you say you've heard before would definitely be found in the Blue Devils 2009 season, hands down my favorite season to listen to (a season they won drums).

So cool to see BD back with Ludwig. Last time I saw BD playing Luddies was in 1985 (I missed last season). In 86 they followed the 85 Scouts, and jumped to Yamaha. Seems like BD stayed there forever. Though I know they played Dynasty for a while (made the switch in 2000?).... Pearl in 2010? System Blue in 2016? 2022, back to Ludwig? ...it's like they've come Full Circle... or... First Circle (1985).... that was bad... Love this breakdown. :)
I do think they'll have the drum break super clean by finals but there are definitely other contenders for the sanny. Boston and Crown chief among them I would say.

especially without vanguard being in the conversation this year i think that BD has a much higher chance in winning the sanford, i know it’s early but i personally think they are cleaner and more balanced than boston right now.
Devils is all loud smashmouth.... Bloo and Cadets really play much more musically. Cadets actually do the aggressive bit better than devils, especially when coupled with how tastefully they mix/match/balance.
What's kinda funny is in the 80s-90s BD lines were a bunch of beach bum looking dudes. Now it's like the melting pot of the west invaded drum corps. Nothing negative about that but it's kinda crazy how BD has so many different races in there. BD's book is stacked. Like you guys said, the show is written to be a winner they just have to ace it in August.
I've seen a lot of bd books over the years. Then again there's a lot I haven't seen, so correct me if I'm wrong: have they ever written ditty beats in a book before?

But they have been gaining popularity within the last 2 seasons and it would be cool to see a juggernaut do his thing with a line like that and just see it flourish even more than it has been.

Nice to see BD pay homage to SCV with that little visual there. It’s a minor gesture, but it symbolizes the huge respect BD has for SCV. And that’s great. But if the roles were reversed, does anyone think SCV would extend the same courtesy to BD? In fact, when’s the last time anyone from the SCV organization ever uttered a single kind word about BD? For all the “mutual respect” you hear about between the two corps, all the respect only ever seems to go one way…

Do you understand the concept of symbolism and how it works? I 100% stand by what I said, which is that SCV would never do something even this small in homage/tribute to BD. It’s all one-way respect.
while i do agree at this current moment it's probably safest to bet on bd for the sanford, i feel like it's equally as safe to bet on boston. while their book is not as technical and choppy as last year its, in my opinion, the most musical book colin mcnutt has ever written while still maintaining an extremely high level of technicality that very few lines have ever even attempted to achieve. i may be a little biased but im very excited to hear your opinions once we have lot videos and such from boston
People need to also consider the front ensemble contribution. Too often people only make their choices off of only seeing the battery in the lot and ignore or forget about the other half the of the percussion section that plays more throughout the show.

HOLY Vets!! BD, RCC, Pulse, Bloo, Ayala..all star team. On talent alone, it’s BD by wide margin in ‘23.

They really figured out the tuning for everything compared to last winter/summer.
By the look of it, there are 7 vets in the snare line with the rookies with experience from RCC, one tenor vet, and three bass vets. Stacked for sure
