I'll tell you a secret, it doesn't matter what color you paint Tau armor.
T'au will often change armor color based on where where they fight; although there is a lore reason Farsight runs in red armor and isn't part of the empire proper, he would still utilize the same philosophy.
What matters is the sept markings. It just so happens that grey is the sept color for Farsight Enclaves. You've done nothing wrong.

Do you have a link for those white decals? I’m doing my Tau army in red and that unfortunately makes the red decals they come with worthless.

I hate Tau from a game perspective, but I love how they look. And this video does not help me in trying not to buy models.
