From the start of the game, the gang was about money and getting more and more. Arthur spend his entire final chapter Giving away the money the gang stole through out the story. he didn't need it and he felt guilt for what the gang did so he tried to help those who he hurt.
Actually following the creed that Dutch would often always bring up to justify their consecutive massacres. If I'm not mistaken he claimed to be a robin hood/revolutionary enigma. This is just a videogame yet it still manages to convey the complexity among human beings and their dealings with morals and how often times tragic corrupt individuals such as Arthur, Charles, and Hosea (not self-righteous and deliberate narcissistic ones such as Dutch or Micah)are ironically the authentic outlaws spending their life trying to help those who they've encountered. The beautiful thing in this game is that you put yourself in the paper of Arthur Morgan and realizes things that you even don't know yet, but you're find out to discover, not on the character, but in yourself. That's why this game is so emphatic, cause on every mission you try do everything about the caracter and tries to adapt yourself based on him, and discovered as well that Arthur's choices are similar to ours on our lifes, everyday. One thing I really like is that Arthur always refers to her as “Mrs. Downes.” It’s like a verbal acknowledgment to coincide with the physical reminder every single time of one of his worst acts.
I ran the numbers on an inflation calculator. In the first scene, at the mine, Arthur gives them $35 (equivalent to $1,279.24 in 2023). Here he gives them $90 ($3,289.48), for a total of $4,568.72 in today’s money $USD
Sometimes I come back to watch again this scene, the acting is so perfect, we spend so many time playing in the shoes of Arthur, that it's inevitable to feel part of what Arthur is feeling, it may be a game but fuck, it's almost like watching a close friend suffering

I like the detail in there how when it's the right moment he helps ladies off his horse. Like helping Abigail on/off horse right before Arthur's last ride. But other times like here where she hates him. He doesn't dare touch her and let's her get down herself
3 years later and I’m just now noticing… this in an odd way parallel’s Arthur’s wife and son. Just like the Downes they got robbed for a small amount of money, and lost their lives almost like the Downes all would’ve had Arthur not come back to fix his mistakes. He notices this too… he describes them the same way and uses the same words to describe his family
And nothing clicked in Arthur's head. He still beats to death Mr.Downes for "few bucks". Because he was selfish, only he and his friends mattered, other ordinary people were just resources. That's the way criminal mind works.

Whereas its your responsibility to bring out the good in arthur and in turn yourself, its his responsibility to show you that that good exists and is worth pursuing
Man, Leopold Strauss was such a dick. He was my least favorite character in the entire game. He sent Arthur to do his dirty work, and causing Arthur to contract tuberculosis, which killed him.
It’s also the fact that he exploited poor and destitute people. It’s even said that he purposely changed dates and made lofty, too good promises on loans for these folks that would end up being impossible to repay in their current state without returning to destitution. Coming up to folks down on their luck, giving them a chance at an easy, flexible loan to just have your entire scrappy life taken away again for that same debt
This is one of the very few Arthur’s that people have created a look for that doesn’t get on My nerves. Basically this guys Arthur looks at the other Arthurs like he’s seen mushrooms with bigger brains.
"Don't forgive me, I don't need your forgiveness, just take the money and leave please, go to the nice place, start over again." That line is so good to be true. But Arthur is really good guy.
RDR2 took me completely off guard with its significantly more optimistic tone compared to the previous game. Hell, Rockstar games in general tend to be super bleak and cynical up until this point From "Doing good is pointless because it'll just get undone later" to "Do good for the sake of it and damn anyone who says otherwise"
They should make a tribute vid to Arthur and Mrs downes with the song "I hung my head" by Johnny cash. Its suits almost perfectly. the lyrics near the end of the song go "I orphaned his children (archie) I widowed his wife (Mrs downes) I beg there forgiveness for soon I'll be dead.. I hung my head I hung my head."
I really love complicated characters like Arthur, Guts, and Kratos… they all did heinous things… but as they get older or go through more things, they start to calm down tremendously and actually try to do good, it’s not even for the sake of themselves… they do it because it’s the right thing to do, in my opinion Arthur redeemed himself… especially if you help out Sister Calderon… “we all live bad lives Mr. Morgan… we all sin… but I know you”
Arthur Morgan a man who was suffering from tuberculosis whom he contracted in a bar fight with somebody, and Rockstar Games make it so the player can choose whether to die a bad guy or a good guy. if you choose to be a good guy helping all the while helping John Escape from the hands of Micah Bell and Dutch along with the pinkertons, until your final deaths from tuberculosis hits his mark, looking back at how you help those people before you die you lived in peace.
@@SylearX I see, and we all know who the blame though I still blame Strauss for this had he not ordered Arthur to get debt from the Downes he would have not had tuberculosis But like everyone says what's done is done and can't be undone
@@Rellemann23it really makes me like John more, like John is who he is because of Arthur and Hosea. I also like to think the reason him and Landon Rickets get along so well is because he reminds him of Hosea/Arthur.
Imagine if Hosea was still alive and saw Arthur doing this. One can speculate that he wouldn't mind it at all, not because of how close they are, but he knew from the start how pointless it is ever since Blackwater
I never thought a videogame can pull my heartstrings in so many ways. I don't care what anyone says, High honor Arthur is so well written and so humane that it had to be the canon path.
Arthur's mood be like: i dont want forgiveness i just want to repair some of the damage i did to you. that is known as penance. (i get the good ending by the way, i be a good cowboy)
What I like about Arthur’s redemption option is that he’s not in it for himself. He knows he’s damned for what he’s done and that his awful life didn’t mean anything beyond Dutch killing and robbing for himself. But he still wants to do some good with the time he’s got left, he sees how he’s helped to make the world and he wants to set it back right a little. So many protagonists nowadays (Barry from HBO, Bojack Horseman) go about hating themselves and seeking forgiveness as a way to help themselves stop feeling shitty, which is really selfish when you consider that forgiveness is about the victim moving on with their lives from the harm you’ve done, not soothing your own conscious. He’s a good model for seeking redemption because his focus is on his empathy and compassion for others, not just wallowing in self guilt alone and looking for an exit.
*"I know I ruined your lives, I suffer for it everyday!"*

It’s Dutch’s fault for sending Arthur to work with Strauss
This is one of the very few Arthur’s that people have created a look for that doesn’t get on My nerves. Basically this guys Arthur looks at the other Arthurs like he’s seen mushrooms with bigger brains.
"Don't forgive me, I don't need your forgiveness, just take the money and leave please, go to the nice place, start over again."
That line is so good to be true. But Arthur is really good guy.
Fun fact: they ended up owning a golf course and it exist until GTA V
RDR2 took me completely off guard with its significantly more optimistic tone compared to the previous game. Hell, Rockstar games in general tend to be super bleak and cynical up until this point
From "Doing good is pointless because it'll just get undone later" to "Do good for the sake of it and damn anyone who says otherwise"
I would hate for this game to be made into a movie. No Actor can live up to Arthur. I wish I could play this game for the first time again.
Me too boah but as arthur sayed we cant change what's done we can only move on even thought we can re load the game
“you sound like my husband”
“i know”
I would pay for a dl or a rdr3 featuring a prologue of rdr2. The events of Young Duth, Arthur and Hosea
I feel like they hinted at it a lot with the little back stories. Plus this game did so well.
One of those characters you played where, it was truly heartbreaking to see die
It’s crazy how you can just feel how ashamed and disgusted Arthur is with himself when he says “I said don’t thank me.”
I love how Arthur really insist the situation
The way he said “Let’s get you home.” Is just excellent to me. I don’t know about anyone else, but I felt that.
This is where Arthur won my heart
They should make a tribute vid to Arthur and Mrs downes with the song "I hung my head" by Johnny cash. Its suits almost perfectly. the lyrics near the end of the song go "I orphaned his children (archie) I widowed his wife (Mrs downes) I beg there forgiveness for soon I'll be dead.. I hung my head I hung my head."
Who knew a video game character would be up there as one of the best written characters in history
$35k? You got some money for me, boy?
Alex Miyamoto how the hell did he get that
Machetekills198 Gold bar glitch maybe.
The rise and fall and then rise again of Arthur Morgan may be the single greatest story ever told. It should be studied in modern day history.
Gives them $90 but has $35K haha
Your odd obsession with the lantern makes the video so much worse.
What you don't like seeing the video?
Then dont watch it.
"I know I ruined your lives. I suffer for it every day."
This game, man…
Part of me was like damn, all my money lol.
Morgan… we all sin… but I know you”
Thank you again, Mr. Morgan.
Waiting for a dlc where Arthur lives
I thought my horse riding skills were bad, then I saw your video xD
This made me cry damn. Rockstar is on another level
The voice acting of Arthur bij Roger is so intense almost crying here I feel him suffer
Game was a masterpiece
Arthur Morgan a man who was suffering from tuberculosis whom he contracted in a bar fight with somebody, and Rockstar Games make it so the player can choose whether to die a bad guy or a good guy.
if you choose to be a good guy helping all the while helping John Escape from the hands of Micah Bell and Dutch along with the pinkertons, until your final deaths from tuberculosis hits his mark, looking back at how you help those people before you die you lived in peace.
he got it from her husband ms downes
@@SylearX I see, and we all know who the blame though I still blame Strauss for this had he not ordered Arthur to get debt from the Downes he would have not had tuberculosis But like everyone says what's done is done and can't be undone
Jesus Christ Rockstar, why did you made me love Arthur so bad if you're just going to kill him in the end, He was too good to be an outlaw 😭
And i dont like playing john 😭
@@excellbow now John seems like the generic guy that the fanbase thought Arthur was going to be
@@Rellemann23it really makes me like John more, like John is who he is because of Arthur and Hosea. I also like to think the reason him and Landon Rickets get along so well is because he reminds him of Hosea/Arthur.
man this game just pokes your heart in some nasty places
God the acting and music in this game is so good. This part is nowhere near as powerful as the last couple of main missions, but it still gets me.
Imagine if Hosea was still alive and saw Arthur doing this. One can speculate that he wouldn't mind it at all, not because of how close they are, but he knew from the start how pointless it is ever since Blackwater
You can tell by his eyes he's in pain
The acting in this video game holds up with some of the best movies ever
Rockstars holy grail. The best video game ever made.
I never thought a videogame can pull my heartstrings in so many ways. I don't care what anyone says, High honor Arthur is so well written and so humane that it had to be the canon path.
Arthur is the person who destroy their life, and arthur is the one who repaired their life and even make it better 😢😢
Dutch really fucked up this man’s life 💔
Arthur's mood be like: i dont want forgiveness i just want to repair some of the damage i did to you.
that is known as penance.
He’s a good model for seeking redemption because his focus is on his empathy and compassion for others, not just wallowing in self guilt alone and looking for an exit.
damn ARTHUR NEED A MOVIE
I said don't thank me... gets me everytime
This is redemption 😢😭
How the FUCK do you have $35,000????? I thought I was rich by having $15,000!!!!! You have more than double that! Jesus. How?!
Must've saved it all up
"I said don't thank me" how he said that
