I am excited to see how your Dart comes out.
I hope this comes out even better than you hoped for.
If it does it will be awesome.
    Have a great day.👍

I’ve got high hopes for this guy. I’ve seen some good work come out of his shop previously. Plus, he’s really passionate about these classics.

Paid 600 25 years for full black leather interior with red pipeing on 78 MGB they did door panels and dash top. Beautiful work who ever had that car now loves it.

Hey, bro, I don't blame you one bit. Most of the shops here in SoCal will have a guy bleeding money, keeping your wheels hostage for months and months. I go to Cars and Coffee almost every weekend, and it's the same ole story within our circles regarding this subject. It forces a guy to learn how to do it and take it to TJ. Macco is an excellent way to go if you can prep the body yourself; I took my Fury there and was pleased with their paint job. Took mine to the one on E Street in Berdoo.

I’ve heard so many stories of malpractice with shops here as well. It was a major reason for why I jumped into the hobby as a kid. Got burned from a shop at 16 years old and decided to learn it myself. There are lots of great people in this industry as well. The team who helped me with my Ramcharger are fantastic. I’ve heard about the TJ body shops over the years and figured i’d give it a shot. For me, the Dart isn’t worth sinking 25k into. I was either going to sell it or find another way. My time is limited so, TJ was the best option for this one given the metal work. Didn’t wanna see Maaco’s attempt at tackling this rust lol

I for one am optimistic. For the amount of work being done, I think you'll be getting a good deal. Excited to see the final result!

I lived in HB for 20 years. If you want to take it to Mex from something they do nice interior work in a day, make plans with a shop get there by 6am so they can get it done. There body work is good at some places. But you should do the epoxy primer and paint yourself.Good luck

I wish you luck with the finished result and a smooth process brother. Many years ago-friends of mine that were stationed around Pendleton would go down to TJ and party..it was a great time! There was always a degree of risk in TJ but for the most part the risk was very low-that was in the 90’s. Now…it’s a very different story, and the risk would be much higher. I realize that there’s an inherent value in bringing cars into Mexico for the workers there…as $9,000 (USD) is a lot of money in Mexico and the draw of word of mouth customer referrals seems legit enough for the status quo feeling of comfort. What is your plan of action if something happens to that car during the process of being repaired? The amount of time needed for all those repairs is lengthy.. I know because that’s what I do. Unfortunately I do also realize that California’s laws concerning environmental protection etc probably make the cost of repairs much higher than where I’m at in Oklahoma but I was kinda surprised when you said $9000 to be honest, because that is not super cheap by any means. I can’t fault you for trying to save money.. I totally get it, but isn’t this the sort of thing that got America into the situation we have today? The extremely high cost of a low price has all of us living way below what our grandparents did…ya know back when America made everything including that car…
We’re either all in or all sold out.
Eventually we’ll all figure it out, and probably really soon.
    Buy American, spend American

Definitely a risk. There are insurances you can purchase when bringing a car into Mexico. I can’t speak to whether those insurance companies actually pay. I’m sure it’s a difficult process to see any kind of return when the vehicle disappears. While $9,000 does seem high for TJ, I bet there’s at least 200 hrs into the body and paint alone. Especially without replacement panels. I estimate it’s about half the cost of a US shop. I personally don’t think we’re in this situation as a country due to outsourcing or consumer traits. I think stepping away from the gold standard and allowing the govt to abuse the nation as a credit card are more to blame. I’ve asked around for recommendations on shops here in SD. It seems a majority of the people go to Mexico for body/paint. Aside from the lower labor cost, they also have better paints. This comparison between Mexico and Maaco is really just for my own curiosity. An experiment, if you will. I try to support local businesses when able. My Ramcharger is a good example of that.

@@sorta_stock see that’s what I was curious about.. the California restrictions on VOC’s have a lot of people down to using waterborne there I think. Also you’re right about the gold standard and multiple factors contributing to the condition we’re in. Everything is expensive.. nickel and diming us to death. There is definitely a solution to getting the country out of this.. the rate things are changing is going to be interesting. Maybe we should just take over Mexico and fix it..🤔; I hear there’s a lot of good old mopars sitting around down there 😂

the only thing I wonder about is quality...you do get what you pay for. Body and paint is hours and hours and more hours to get it right. I know it was my trade for years.

I know the going shop rate down there is about $20/hr (give or take $5). I estimate this will take 200 hours. Hoping this build is profitable enough for them to provide decent work.

Just because it gets done in mexico doesn't mean it's crap work. People are ignorant . The us dollars stretches a long way in mexico . What you pay them there is alot of money compared to us spending in the us
