I dont see anything wrong with that at all.. . just go to the junkyard and understand nothing is forever and ever, this side of heaven. If it looks good from the mailbox, its good.
Just because they did that way at the factory, doesn't mean we have to duplicate it, . It wouldn't bother me to take an old truck, or a school bus and paint it in latex. .It works for houses. How many guys have I heard say, I used to enjoy that old hotrod, until I put that expensive paint job on it. Now all I do is worry about it, .where to park it.

Great instructions. Followed your examples and tips. Same paint, flood, acetone. I used some small fruit cups to measure so when I painted it ended up the same color on all doors. Much less prep than spraying. Major parts sanding,, cleaning,, tac cloth. Did it on my driveway in 1 week. Pretty smooth finish. Minor resanding for easy touch ups. Spent less than $200 large van.. Thanks.

She did it as you would paint a room. Used a brush around things like the door handles lights etc. At the time I thought you have more nerve than me. From a distance it was not as bad as you would think. On the other hand my Brother-in*law painted his car with a Wagner Power Painter as it was known at the time. Electric spray gun. Turned out very well as I remember.

I never heard about Flood before. My "New" to me van had a TV company sign painted on both sides Prepping was a good wash and once over with a green dishwashing pad and a rinse. Then I rolled the paint on with a short nap roller like yours. Then with a fine brush, tipped the paint vertically, then horizontally, scraping excess paint OFF the brush into a coffee can. I gave the sign extra coats. It looked pretty good.....until a hurricane sand blasted one side of the van, but the hurricane damage is a different story. Same cure, though. Next time I'll try some Flood. The roll and tip method is used on racing yacht hulls, and often preferred to spraying. I didn't invent it, just copied it. Thanks for a nice video.

It will be dull in a month. That's just the facts with Rustoleum. If you add enamel hardener to it . .available for the lay people at Tractor Supply, it will GREATLY change the chemistry to where it will hold a shine.

I've used a roller to paint my deuce and a half and Scout as well as my other off road vehicles for many years, sans finnish sanding. To get a smoother finnish thin the paint, use reducer and a fine, low knap roller or quality paint brush. If you use a good quality brush with fine bristles, you won't get any brush marks and a low knap roller usually gives a quite smooth finnish also

In the mid 90s my dad did this to an '86 dodge van, almost the same color too. That paint stayed on until it went to the junkyard in the early 2000s. If it works it works.

I Always use a power tool for Sanding unless i need the exercise. Soap and water bath then Windex would have worked better to begin with. Then wax and grease remover. But you know better than me on using rust oleum and mixing it with stuff. But great effort bro…I compliment you on being out there making something look good. Most peeps are too lazy these days to even get outside.

I am pretty much using your method
    only I added a step
and I'm using the Rust-Oleum primer first
    The brown one
I put on the first coat of paint on top of the primer
It was about four hours ago and it's still a bit tacky
    I used
    5 qts gloss royal blue
    2 qts gloss black
    10 oz acetone
    20 oz flood penetrol
Is that normal for it to take over 4 hrs to dry?
It wasn't really hot outside when i painted
    it had cooled down
So I'm thinking that might be why
Also after seven months how is your paint job holding up
Do you have any follow-up videos
I'm doing this because I don't want to spend a lot
    my vehicle is a 2005

    • @318willrun
      @318willrun  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Primer is a great idea. Yes, the stickiness will take a few hours to leave, and cool temps with no sun will add to that time. Only follow up videos I have are the ones with the van showing in it. And you can see how well the paint is doing! We are happy with it.

      Thank you so much
I just checked on paint about an hour ago
      And it's much dryer
so I would say when I take it out into the sunlight tomorrow
That should probably bake the first coat in pretty well
I'm surprised at how glossy it is too
so I'm really happy about that
I have to say that your method is by far the most simple method I have seen and I have watched a lot of videos about this
      😁🤗
