Would you assume their conversation didn't go very far
The reason that your torque converter belt engages at idle is because it is on backwards. Those belts have an edge that has a bevel towards the tooth side, and an edge that is square cut. The edge with the bevel should go towards the engine, as that side of the driver pulley has a conical shape that it matches. Try flipping it end-for-end.
Both sides of the belt are beveled, it's probably just not adjusted correctly, belt deflection or belt to sheave clearance

The concrete is not the problem. It's the humidity from the concrete floor, usually in not heated basements or garages.
I told a friend of mine so many times not to store his deep charge batteries in his damp summer cottage basement during winter.
He ruined 3 batteries doing so before the sales counter guy told him the same as I did. Bimbo.
It's my understanding that the old style , non maintenance free ones had thinner outside walls or something like that. And those types were not liking the concrete floor due to premature drainage... Let's seperate myth and old wise tails from just old style batteries...and move on shall we. It took me up until I was in my 50s to realize why I wasn't supposed to store on the floor...now it is mute. So everyone please calm down,even if I still have an old habit of storing my battery on wood, it's not gonna hurt it....
💪😊👍 PS ... These new vehicles with literally " a blinking light" that drains your battery if you let it sit for longer than 4 days its dead,and where I'm from In the winter when the battery freezes dead will be 💩 for sure. Stupid blinking light.😊
Great job! Nice carb rebuild. When you get it running your laugh reminds me of Mustie1 when he gets an old engine to fire for the first time.

The MIC carb is made by mikuni. Very popular on snowmobiles. The emulsion tube as you called it comes out through the top of the carb. Pull gently with needle nose pliers. They do tend to get stuck. To check crank seals spray carb cleaner around seals and listen for a change in the idle.

Also some things to note about the CVT clutch system. There is a specific clutch removal tool for the primary clutch. Can be had online pretty cheap, threads into the clutch and presses onto the crankshaft stub. ( I purchased mine from Dennis Kirk). When you take the clutch back off be sure to inspect all the weights and bushings for excessive wear. That system is the p90 style clutch system but many parts are interchangeable with the more common p85 systems found on Polaris snowmobiles of that era. Also important to note that belt alignment is critical as well as making sure the secondary clutch can float freely on the shaft. Torque spec on the primary clutch is right around 65ft/lb for future reference. As far as adjusting belt tension, there is not external adjustment on that system, there are shims that can be removed in the primary clutch to adjust the belt clearance but I promise you that you don’t want to hassle with that. The belt will wear in over time.
As for the crank seals on that Fuji engine, I believe the case needs to be split to install them but I am not 100 percent certain.
Yeah, I was able to borrow the proper puller to do the seals. I'll look it over before I put the guards back on. Thanks for the info!
I thought the same about the seals but oddly enough you can replace them without splitting the crankcase. There is a video on TH-cam on the procedure.
I have a “big boss” 4x6 of the same vintage as this trail boss (same atv with a dump bed and extra axel) and I got it from an older gentleman that had it sitting in his barn for 15 or so years and every single brake line needs replaced. Including the masters. Little bit costly but I’m saving my penny’s! Thank you for that info on the clutches @audiquatro that’s some golden bits of info!:) glad you got this one back on the road Wes! I busted out laughing at the battery stored on concrete remark.

@@officialalloy8601 Helps knock loose the debris and varnish. Acts like an abrasive. Essentially mimics a machine called a wheelabrator.
I use apple cider vinegar to clean out rusty gas tanks. I also put nuts in there and shake the mix around like crazy. I let it soak for a day or two then I dump out the vinegar and flush it out with water. It works pretty good and I like that the vinegar is not bad to dump out on the ground, like some of the chemicals that are for this purpose.

A note on cleaning up mice nests: PLEASE wear a FFP2 mask, and don't spread the stuff with the compressed air hose. Mouse shit is poison for your health...(pure self interest here: keep them videos coming, don't get sick ;) ;) ;))
I lived in Oklahoma for 9 years . Same flat ground. The wind kept blowing 24 hrs a day. Patio doors sang all of the time. Fun place!! Weather changes of 40F in hours. Plus big tornadoes. Fun Fun
I owned a 1978 Polaris Gemini 250. It absolutely ripped. Bombed through trails and had AMAZING floatation. Bringing bringgggggg. Love the 2 stroke sound. In the future save yourself alot work and start with a compression check. It would be a shame to do all the work for nothing. Great video. Rudy from NH

Great episode Wes. I am not a mechanic but was wondering, would extra oil from the automatic oiler + the premixed gas and oil cause the mosquito truck affect?
As always you brought something back from the dead!! Great job!! Only wish you had continued with repairs to/replacement of the master cylinder, calipers, the chain, the tires, putting on a new seat, working on the headlights, etc.

Love your videos and commentary. If you use mixed gas and the oil injection system is working, that may account for excessive smoke in the exhaust. Just my thoughts. I would be interested in knowing what you find out about that.
Some Mikuni carbs do have "MIC" stamped on them so it's probably a legit piece.

You just took me down memory lane. Back in 1991 I was on the SAE formula car team at CSU. We built a car for the mid-west competition and it had a water cooled BMW K75 motorcycle engine with the same stock Polaris CVT transmission from a snowmobile. Thanks man!

That double float in the bowl is so when the vehicle is canted on rough terrain it won't bog down, at least that's what I believe to be the case. Love the videos and your breadth of knowledge is amazing! Thanks

I suspect some of the smoke indicates the oil injection does in fact work.

I'm finishing up the revival of a Polaris Sportsman 500 HO that spent 7 years outside. The primary clutches tend to develop a ridge at the bottom of the sheaves where the belt doesn't make contact and causes them to catch the belt at idle, especially with a new belt.

Hi Wes, if you care about the hose sticking out like that,,I'd think if you either reroute the hose to wrap counter clockwise direction to the valve, or just turn the tank clockwise until the hose is tightened up against the tank... I laughed out loud when you said it works backwards like a magnito. Mag systems are the only thing I work on so to me everything else is oddball! Great video as usual. The explanation you do is great, it helps me understand and gives me some knowledge to start working on newer engines and equipment.

My grandpa had an old Honda Fourtrax ATV from 1987 sitting arround for about 10 years since it was last cranked up. We put a new battery in it since the old one was dead, changed the oil that was over 30 years old, and it cranked right up. Now, the handbrake is busted, and the reverse cable is stuck. Its a 4 stroke 250cc, 5 speed manual. Ive been riding that thing ever since we got it cranked up.
Well, it goes but I’m guessing by the distinct lack of brake fluid reservoir cover it won’t be stopping so quick. Thanks for the entertainment. Keep them coming Wes. 👍
I bought a 2002 Polaris ATV little while ago with the same engine as a quarantine project. It had caught fire and done some damage. New wiring harness, plastics and a couple other parts and it started right up. Super fun

It's a pretty simple system, but kind of backwards of normal ignition.

I bought an Arctic cat new in 2000. Old girl still runs. I use it for chores around home. Not able to go to the mountains anymore. Those belt drive are nice,though if they get wet start slipping. We had to do a lot of creek crossings here in the mountains. My Wife loved to ride with me,So I would make her get off in bad places. Sorry for the rambling : ) Memories are about all an old guy like me has these days. All my best.
They tried to seal them up originally. Now all the plastic covers are warped and I'm sure it would quickly will with water.

I have the same Polaris color and all but painted it camouflage. But that bike is a absolute workhorse and has never let me down.
