Many would say I started figure skating late. But I say there's no such thing as "too late".
If you find a passion for figure skating in your heart, you're unstoppable!
Some might progress fast while others progress slower, but what matters is having fun on the way! I hope this video inspires you to go out there, try ice skating for yourself, and don't hold back because you're "not young enough".

i was 17!! (born in 1999)

about 2-4 times a week and 2 hours each. in the beginning i didn’t skate as much tho.

no, i actually attended skating school which was a 30 minute group lesson once a week!!

I drove an hour and 15mins eacb way for my lessons several times per week around working. But the freedom and relaxation I found on the ice made it utterly worth it!

@@rae9112 I started a few months after I turned fifteen. I will 17 in about 3 months and just passed freestyle 1. Considering I don't have a private coach (I do group lessons) and only practice once a week, Ive gotten pretty far. I'll be competing for the first time tomorrow with some friends from my class! :D I definitely think you can do it. For me it helped when I balanced out the fun and amount of work that goes into skating. Lastly, never be afraid to fall, especially in the beginning. The falls you have when you first start skating will(usually) be softer and not as hard on your body since your not doing much. With experience in falling you start to pick up on how to save yourself from falling or how to lessen the blow.

My friend told me that I was imature cause I want to learn figure skating which she thinks that those lessons were only given to kids. Im kinda sad cause she thinks that way. Im now thinking that other people think like that too. Youre never too old or too late to figure skate. When youre happy with what youre doing, just go for it. Were both 25 btw, I started figure skating last year but I stopped after 5 months. Im thinking of going back again.

Two years ago I won a pair of quad skates and really wanted to start learning figure skating but then felt too old and fat, now I've gained more weight and I'm 34 but a brand asked me to learn figure skating for a video Im supposed to do by the end of the year. I´m starting on february and got that bittersweet feeling of fear and excitement, but cat wait to start!!!!

There are very few things that adults are “too old for.” Just do what you want and ignore the people that say you are too old!
y’all, i have a friend who started skating at 17 years old. i was 12 when i met her on one of her first freestyle sessions. i was maybe freestyle 4 or 5 at the time idk. we got to know each other and we both kept skating. now it’s almost 4 years later, and she just passed juvenile moves in the field. i passed intermediate right after her, and we’re both on an open theatre on ice team together. if ur just starting skating, you will improve if you just keep at it. you may feel discouraged by little kids landing doubles and triples, but honestly they might get burned out, and you can keep going. it takes dedication and hard work, but if you love it then it is totally worth it.

I'm 17 and I just started ice skating again I used to do it when I was little but I don't think I really learned anything crazy or I don't remember other than that I still am pretty comfortable on ice

We have two ice rinks in the entire city and all surrounding suburbs it’s safe to say I’ve never had a free rink. (After those two the closest one is 70km away)
In the winter my family builds a rink in the back of our yard!
Sameee the skating rink closest to me is always packed with people. It's pretty much impossible to practise jumps and/or spins there if you don't go at a weird time like 10am on weekdays (but I have school so I almost never have the oppertunity to do that)
Same - where I live, the closest all year one is miles away and one opens in my town from November - January but it's always packed with annoying kids who try to push people over and knock into people - it's a shame because ice skating is one of the only sports I tend to enjoy, much like many others

Well, I can't talk for her, but in my case, I always wanted doing figure skating and everyone said: you're too old. As I grew older (I'm now nearly seventeen) this wasn't something that could hold me back. Til then I was on the ice maybe once a year, but for that very fast. I've seen my boyfriend practicing the crossover and I also tried it. And that was the time I said: Okay, let's do it! And I just learned figure skating by myself. Not as good as she, but I will be better with a coach. ;) Just have fun and don't look on others. They maybe have over conditions, that help them :)

Lol I'm 26 and for some reason I have so many things I want to do now. I'm not sure if I'll do any of them. But all the things I want to do are stacking up xD (sewing, ice-skating, embroidery etc)
Trust me. I am a teenager and I just started, and even though it hurts seeing literal 8 year Olds do 1000x better, I just try to push myself harder each time. It's the amount of passion, and drive, not always experience.

I wanted to start figure skating from when i was 5 but my mother always told me that it would be a waste of money and time. She always told me that i was made for swimming even tho I don’t like it. One year ago i moved to Spain with my parents. My city is a very hot place and theres absolutely no ice. I started giving up on my dream but after watching this video my dream came back. I really want to go to Russia where the rest of my family lives and start ice skating. My mother is overprotective and I don’t think she would let me go there, this video made me believe in myself tho. I am not going to give up on my dream until it becomes true. Maybe you can rollar skate, as an alternative? That’s what I’m going to do. I live in rural Australia. The closest ice rink is three hours away, and even the closest skating rink is an hour. Even the closest skatepark is 30 minutes. I’m 15, so I obviously can’t drive myself yet. The day will come though. Anyways, my plan is to save up money to buy rollar skates, so I can first Judy practice whenever we go to town 😸

Heyy I'm 16 too and I just started ice skating last year and I'm pretty good! It is not too late and you should start when you are still young!Doesn't matter if the rinks come around near christmas, take that chance to start praticing as much as you can!
I'm 16 too I always wanted to Ice but they aren't any Ice rink where I live. So I started roller skating five months ago and this holiday I'm traveling to a city where there is a ice rink so I hope at least go one to the rink

I’m 14 right now and when I skated for the first time, I immediately fell in love with it. I’d love to get lessons but i don’t think my parents would let me this late into my life, and not to mention it’s pretty expensive.
I wanted to take up skating when I was 14, and my mom told me that I was too old. Scare your parents with my story. They can either have a daughter that starts figure skating at 14 or a daughter who starts figure skating at 42. Their choice.
Hi! I just wanted to say that this really inspired me to keep learning to figure skate. I’m 15 and everyone around me it telling me that it’s too late to learn and improve. This proved them wrong and I’ll be showing them this video! :)

I’ve been thinking about getting lessons but I don’t have any background and all ( although i used to be flexible but meh i can barely reach my foot anymore ) and a late starter and I’m not sure if I should still go....
@@ueva6713 Same here, I just finally signed up for Ballet lessons yesterday - never did it before 😊. Give it a try, as it is never too late. We even have some new people around 40-50 years old in our figure skating group, and they are better than me - which is kind of motivating 😃.

I just started my figure skating 4 days ago. Seeing someone else skating and doing it by myself are completely two things!!! It's hard, but you inspired me so much!
This is honestly really beautiful to watch. It makes me truly happy to watch these kind of videos, especially figure skating! I wish I could learn how to figure skate and compete but I live in Australia and in a small town, so it's hot and no skating rinks nearby. Depends where you live to be honest. I'm from Birmingham UK and although they have ice rinks out for Christmas there are places that you can go to where there is an ice skating rink. it's fun. I tried ice skating the first time and fell. though would love to try again and again till I can ice skate properly. practise make perfect.
Nottingham is fairly empty most weekdays, prices suck though
I used to skate at the bispham ring but I had to get up at 5 am for an hours journey most days of the week. I wish I didnt quit though :c Was about to do my exam for nisa 1 the week after

I'm 37 and looking to try and finally (after longer than I'd like to admit) get on the ice. I know it's nowhere near the same thing, but I used to roller blade when I could (and the only place I had wasn't crowded). It was... freeing!

Yeah, my worst fall was at competition and I slit my wrist open with my blade. No clue how but now I have a scar soooo... I have also winded myself multiple times cause I just kinda throw myself at things.

i’m a figure skater and I LOVE THIS i started when i was ten and i’m fifteen now i had to work twice as hard to catch up to everyone my age AND I DID this shows everyone that if they put their mind to it they can do it
My daughter is the same! Started when she was 10 and is now 13. She still has a ways to go before she catches up, but she is making progress, doing her best, and loving it. We are lucky that we live in an area with a lot of skating. The school district even has a figure skating team where we live for 7th thru 12th grade from mid November thru mid March. They do 2 to 3 competitions (depending on how they competitions are scheduled) plus 3 nights of an ice show.

I'm no good I skated 5 times a week for many years, and these past few years just once a week. Flexibility doesn’t come naturally to everyone, not every skater is flexible unless they want to go really far in the sport.

Your progress is impressive. I've been at it now for 5 months and not nearly so balanced. It's different when you're 70 years old but I think you and I have the same amount of enthusiasm for learning new moves. Keep going!

@Martha T I'm 23 too and just started group lessons two months ago. I knew that if I didn't try, I would regret it. I'm not progressing very fast but I am having fun, and that's what counts :) my advice would be to try it and see where it takes you!

I started when I was 23. I was in my first competition 7 months later. I continued stating until I was 36. I stopped because of a work injury to my back. There's nothing like flying through the air when jumping. I still miss it a lot.
When I started, many other adults were also beginners. The nice thing is most rinks have morning sessions for adult skaters. That was my favorite time to practice. No kids and the group size of skaters was small.

Wow! that progress is impressive! To get to where you are in a year. PROUD! That is clearly a lot of passion and a lot of hard work too. I am an adult skater (22yrs old) as well. I started skating March 2018. I've always wanted to skate, and there's a rink right next to my school that I pass by and watch the kids there skate everyday. And one day I just thought, why not. And I've been skating until now. I absolutely love it. Watching your video is an added motivation. It just makes me so happy to know that one day I can skate like that too. Keep skating! :)

Awesome! I watched every last bit of this! I started skating 7 months ago at the age of 41 and like you. I was proud of myself but I wanted to skate like everyone else! I do an hour of private coaching a week plus lots of extra ice time because I want to be beautiful on the ice too! Thank you for the inspiration!

it can be really cheap and you don't have to be in shape! second hand skates are great and some beginer skates can be £20 ($25 ish) and where i am its £7.40 to skate on the rink as long as you want with skate hire and £5.40 with your own skates. you also don't have to get a coach to get good, youtube has tons of amazing skating tutorial videos
