  • This year has been pretty tough for me. In this video, I shared some things I didn't really want to share at first. But I think it's important for you to see all sides of skating, and all the unpleasant side effects figure skating can have on you. I did not progress nearly as much as I hoped to but that's okay. Nobody is perfect and nobody can perform axels first try.
I still hope you enjoy this video because I poured my soul into it. It may not have been evident this year, but figure skating is still my happiness and I will do anything in my power to continue skating.

special thanks to every single one of you 28.5k MINIS!!
thank you so much for everything, xx ily

I felt the need to comment on this, because this made me really emotional. I love that you mentioned that you have to care for yourself in order to be your best in skating. In my past, I've tried the diets, starving my body of nutrients in order to lose weight that I thought I had to lose. When I started skating in the beginning of the year, I thought I had finally found a way to keep fit and not feel pressure to be the best or look a certain way, but comparison and bad thoughts caught up pretty quickly when looking at other girls from my group doing everything better, looking better etc. The thing is, and I also learned that pretty quickly, there's no point in self harming behavior. I'm much more likely to be a successful skater if I respect and care for myself.
You got me into skating and you're even more a role model for me after seeing this video. I hope you get to skate again soon

the food issue part of your story really hit me. I had been ice skating since I was 7 but had to stop due to financial issues and was heartbroken so I took up dance instead. when I was 12 I was allowed to re enter public lessons and when improved could start private's again but I had it set back by 2 years because of my E.D things where hard, I was hospitalised etc. but I got better! slowly. REAL slow. and yeah I relapsed, I went back to hospital again and at some points I considered giving up. but then I remembered figure skating. oh yeah, how could I forget. I forced myself to get better because I realised I don't want to live my life being destroyed by my E.D I wanted my eating disorder to be destroyed by my life. I worked hard, got shut down. but like skating taught me. I got back up again and now I'm finally back on the ice. yeah things are shit. yeah you can give up. feel like your restricted. feel like you'll be nothing. or you can prove it wrong. prove your family wrong, prove your 'friends' wrong. but most importantly. prove yourself wrong. I love you all and want you to know that things won't always get better yeah we get it, but its how we learn to deal, live and move around it is what's important. I hope you all have a good day

Hey Mina, thank you for sharing your progress video and your struggles with eating disorders and self love! I'm sure many people will appreciate you being so open.
I've never really struggled with body image issues or eating disorders, but I was a bit self conscious about a few aspects of my body, like most people are. So maybe I'm not one to talk, but I wanted to share how I changed the way I viewed my body. I realized that what makes your body beautiful is not how it looks, but rather what your body can do! And my body can do beautiful things on the ice, just like your body can do beautiful things on the ice. So you have to work on your body by keeping it fit and healthy and giving it the nutrition it needs so that it can do more beautiful things and thus become even more beautiful! I hope that will help you see your body in a different light. Once I realized that for myself, I stopped caring about the minor flaws that I wished I could have changed.

    • @natsskates
      @natsskates 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@minasees I'm heavily biased towards Snow Whites because they're way cuter and they have an adjustable toe stop so you can set it at whatever height you want.
Also it may seem that the 4 wheel option on Pic skates would be better for balance, but in the end I feel like they would be clunky and you would trip over your own skates. So once you get used to the shorter wheel base with the 3 wheel skates, I promise you that you'll love them!

Mina, you are an inspiration. At first, I always felt like its useless to start FS in adulthood as most likely I wont make it to big competitions. Its hard convincing myself that I shouldn't be thinking of the regret that I have for not starting out early. But then watching you grow and still making progression video during this pandemic making me realised, I should set my goal right to start this sport. I saw your video of the 1rst year progress and wanted to leave my comment here too since this video is more recent! This year I've been stumbling upon many figure skating videos (mostly Yuzuru Hanyu's competition videos and so on) and I finally realized that I have a crazy passion for figure skating and that I want to get started on practicing it. At first I honestly felt a bit unmotivated because I was like I'm 21 years old, isn't it too late for me to start? So I searched up literally that question and SO many people including figure skaters responded being super uplifting saying that it is never too late to figure skate or do anything that you're passionate about. And that is so true, this video is the proof of it. It just feels so heartwarming to see so many people like me that have found the figure skating passion and want to start. And it really is never too late guys! Remember that there's other people like you and that it is better to not regret anything. I'm so happy that all of us have this common passion and I will do everything in my power to start training (I've already started stretching a lot to make myself more flexible) And guys we can do it ! 💪🤍⛸️

i saw your first year video about 2 years ago.... i now rewatched everything and i'm yet again thankful that youtube has brought me back to a channel after some time.
back then i went ice skating every week or every other at least, but my ice skating friend and i stopped hanging out and i never wanted to go by myself so sadly that's when i stopped going. i had dreams and lost them...
i still feel like i need it back, even though i can't do shit tbh besides going backwards and standing on one leg for a while😂but i just feel free on the ice. heck i even occasionally dream about being able to figure skate and i usually wake up and start crying.
your videos really help regaining courage. thank you so much💕

I miss figure skating. I was only able to practice for a month and fell in love with it. Then I moved to brazil (tropical country) and there's no rinks anywhere near. Seeing your vids gave me pure nostalgia. Thank you for sharing your progress 💕

Even though I'm unable to go to a skate rink, you have inspired me to try figure skating out. I used to go to my nearby rink just for fun but i want to learn how to skate professionally. Thank you for your progression videos.

I’ve been skating for two years, beginning at August 2018, when I was 12. I’m only able to skate one 90 minute session per week because of my parents schedules and due to the fact that the session is really early in the morning(5 am), so I haven’t made as much progress as you have over 2 years. I really wish I could skate more...I started because my mother was upset at me for not doing any sports so I took up the one I found to be the prettiest and I’m completely obsessed now. I’m working on an axel and lutz with hair cutter and camel catch, which is pretty late skills for two years. Your videos really inspire me though, so thank you!

I just found this channel today (October 13, 2020). When I watched the progress from year 1 to 3, I was so inspired to do skating. It's also because of Yuri on Ice. I found it beautiful when people skate and dance on ice because I know it's so HARD. I searched in google if being 15 year old (i turn 15 tomorrow) can still do this kind of things and it says that I may be too late. But as I watched your videos and learned that you were 17 when you started, I just... got motivated. But the problem is, I can't tell my parents about it because I'm a shy teen and there's no rinks in my country.

I remember how insecure I was about my skating around 14-15. I was seeing 11 year olds land their axels. I was 15 and I hadn't mastered a sit spin. I felt incompetent. I've wanted to pick back up on my figure skating for awhile now (had to quit when I was 16-17 because of a bad knee injury). I remember how devestated and depressed I was after I had to give up competing. I'm 24 years old know and I've always thought it was too late for me to pick it back up. Your videos have given me the push and confidence I needed to get back out there. Thank you so much. After this virus shiz is over, I plan on picking it back up. I don't I'm mentally ready to compete again. But I know that the second I walk into the rink even before I put on my skates my heart flutters and all I feel in that moment is joy and like I'm home. I fell in love with skating when I was about 7 or 8.
I know you'll probably never see this, but on the small chance you do, I want to thank you for helping me ignite my soul and remember that love.

Since the first year I have been watching your TH-cam videos and it’s amazing to see your progress!!! I am 13 now and I have been skating for about eight years now and I’ve had my axel for two years this month. My biggest recommendation is really work on walk throughs of axels and jump further out and I think that will really help 🙂 I don’t want to sound rude or anything so I’m sorry if this offends you but keep progressing and amazing job especially when we have been off the ice 😊

1 year of skating. Ur videos were the first few I saw when I started skating. I felt inferior when my progress were much slower than yours tbh. But I don't think I should compare coz everyone has their own pace. Most important is to enjoy the journey and the little advancements( no matter how small) u make and give a pet on yrself.

Your videos are very inspirational to me. I have 14 years old and I would like to practice figure skating at a competitive level, but in my city there are no ice skating rinks and I cannot do it. I'm trying to get started with rollerblading so that I can get a little familiar with skates in general (I know they're not the same thing, but at least when I get the chance to go on ice I won't be completely unprepared). I am also doing skater workouts and also a lot of stretching to achieve a high level of flexibility. Many tell me that I am too "old" to be able to practice figure skating at a competitive level, but I will not be discouraged.
(Sorry for my bad english 😅)

It was 2 years from that I’m 12 now! I want to skate but the pandemic been trying to do stretches and doing your video “how to get flexible lazy” My left leg was still little bit stiff but my right leg is like wet noodle I’m not fully flexible I need to do stretches everyday! Thank for inspiring me with your videos!
