    Seeing these "before/during/after" images really helps me to understand some of the places I have seen in the western US at old volcanic sites (and to think, some of these sites are just sleeping, not deceased!) Thank you!

    Looking at the river with the banks so near, you get an almost 3D effect , to think that was lava rushing by only a short time ago. Thanks for the video. Don't forget to take a bucket with you into the garden to collect the nuts. Can't wait so see you open one up for us. Have a great day.

    Hi Scott, such desolation and bleakness and yet it still has a magnificent beauty in the formation of the solidified lava, interspersed with the low lying steam clouds weaving through the twisted shapes and cracks. I can't help comparing it to films I've watched of The WW1 Battle of Ypres in 1917, the emptiness of visible life is quite sobering and it makes me just want to gaze in fascination at the power of nature.

    I marvel at the resilience of that lone tree with all steam billowing in the background. It just seems sort of surreal among all the lava the as that it remains standing.

    One of your best videos. Tour guides have an important role to play in life. Do not put yourself down with the word "just". No one can know everything. But is is good to be humble. You are the greatest tour guide I've ever " known". I've traveled a lot and had many, so I know what I'm talking about. Keep up your good work!

    Hi, Scott. Could you give us pictures? footage? tours? of places affected by earlier flows from the last century or two? That would give us a sense of the time scale of what will happen going forward, of the pace of the environment and landscape reclaiming lava as part of the overall "system" (for lack of being able to think of a better word for it). I think you showed us once, at one of the beaches, some lava a few centuries old that had been almost completely reclaimed by normal woods vegetation. What I'm getting at is examples of the time frame of the normal ecosystem reclaim lava as useful soil.

    • @MrJtappin
      @MrJtappin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of it is indeed fragile, a bit like sugar honeycomb sweets sometimes. This can also make it dangerous as voids can from underneath which you won't know about until yo fall through! At the same time it's a fantastic thermal insulation for anything hot underneath.

    That is so eery looking, with its smoke and mist rising. I know from experience that stuff can be as crumbly as cornflakes, with deep hidden pockets, so take a care for your ankle safety. Seriously tho it is looking like Craters of the Moon National Park in Idaho. They have nice walking trails through it, so hopefully they will do the same there someday, only with more control in your neighborhood sides access. If not you will have a million and one tourists straggling through your neighborhood at all times of the day and night.
    I hear they are getting ready to name fissure 8. I think they should call it Mt. Doom.
