Dear John! Great to c your progress. I love your way of doing those things, neglecting the fact that this engine has its roots more in the tractor section.....super cleanness, perfect. I wish you all the luck with your bearings under pressure! Greetings, Oliver
Hi Oliver. Tractor Section :):). Its certainly built like a tank. I'm doing everything I can think of to keep it clean. When Its not being worked on, I bag it with a 50 gallon plastic bag to keep the dust and dirt out. How was your oil pump chain guide? Mine's a little more worn than I would like. On the look out for one. Take care. Cheers John.
Thanks Chris. I'm also going to check piston to bore clearance, but the machine shop here has been great and produce top notch work so I expect that to be spot on too. This area has a ton of Classic Car people so this shop is always busy. Currently on the look out for a better Oil pump chain guide. Mine's a little more worn than I'd like. Take care. Cheers John.
Very good on the assembly, a cup of coffee or hot chocolate by your side is a good thing. I just remembered, though you have not got to that stage and you might be knowing, the Mercedes-Benz V engines piston lineup is left bank 1,2,3,4 and then right bank 5,6,7,8. The left and right is from the drivers perspective while sitted in the car. This is unlike American V engines where piston 1 is on the left bank, then 2 on the right, 3 on the left and so on. 🚘
Thank you for the comments. Yes a cup of Tea is always close at hand:) As for piston numbering, yes It's different from the US V8's. All the best Cheers John.
Enjoyed your video John. I love measuring as it gives you peace of mind. On my build I didn’t measure the deck height only because I did not machine the block or the heads and I did not replace rods or pistons. I measured journals & checked the ring gaps, but I wish I would have measured more just for fun.
Thanks Tony. Yes, if you didn't machine surfaces or replace pistons you wouldn't really need too. I know what you mean, there's something fun and reassuring measuring stuff as you go. I'm keeping notes on all the results. Hope everything is going well with you. Cheers John.
Thanks Geoffrey. Slow and steady:) Funny you ask about the windows, I'm working on the next phase as I write this. Tons of detail, painting etc. Then there's the rear of the church and the tower windows next. So not done yet. Cheers John.

Excellent job.
Thank you, much appreciated. Cheers John.
Well done. Very vigillent double checking everything. The oil clearance is good. Piston to block is good.

Perfection is the name of the game here. Waiting for the rings …
That's next up. Cheers John.

It's coming along nicely. Won't be long now and you will be on the road.
Have you finished working on the church windows?
Thanks Geoffrey. Slow and steady:) Funny you ask about the windows, I'm working on the next phase as I write this. Tons of detail, painting etc. Then there's the rear of the church and the tower windows next. So not done yet.
