Nice walkthrough. I'm a full-time producer and I work in a similar workflow: Import and arrange in Rush (usually on-site); sync to CC; then pull it in to Premiere to do the fancy stuff. Rush is definitely underrated as an organization tool and basic editor!
Thank you, John! I am new to the Adobe creative suite and Premier Pro seems to be overwhelming. After watching this video, I feel a bit more comfortable and ready to move forward with editing my videos. I will be referencing this video as my new journey begins. Have a great holiday!
Love seeing your whole workflow using Rush!! I just started using it to get back into video editing on my phone and iPad, and loving the experience so far!
Great video sir. 2 questions.... 1- does Adobe Rush allow for fine audio nudging? Im done with fighting iMovie as its smallest audio nudge is often times not small enough for me to perfectly sync to the video. 2- how are you backing up your work when youre finished with a project? Surely you arent leaving finished projects on the iPad to fill up memory space. Can you "save as" the whole project to an external SSD? Or, can you keep all of your video, audio files on an external SSD and edit the project that way, never putting your media on the iPad itself?
Brilliant video & happy new year, as my iPad Pro 2018 hasn’t got a great deal of storage, am I able to use an external hard drive like one with a SD card reader built in, and access the video files on that for editing ?, or upload the videos to my Creative Cloud storage and work on them like I would with images on Lightroom ?. Many thanks
I only dabble in shooting or editing video and basically self taught trying to use Adobe Premier. Always so intimidating. I was introduced to Rush at a trade show by an Adobe rep that said he did most of his editing now on Rush since the user interface was easier and since 95%+ of people didn't need many of the features/capability of Premier. I have edited a few videos with Rush now and for the most part it is much easier and better to work with. The way it automatically connects clips on track 1 to track 2 is frustrating (delete or move one and it automatically grabs the other) and some of the audio adjustments are frustrating, but for the most part it is faster/easier. Still learning though and would love to see a tips and tricks video from you for Rush.
Dude, your channel is fast becoming one of my faves. 👍🏼 I’m a hybrid photo/video wedding shooter and use 100% LumaFusion but Adobe Rush has some features that LumaFusion doesn’t (that I just learnt in your vid). I’ve also invested in the Gnarbox 2.0 and this thing is a serious workflow changer. Thanks bro
So awesome! I'm trying to become more of a hybrid wedding shooter myself. Maybe one day. Yeah I don't mind Rush but Lumafusion is overall more powerful. Thanks for watching again and I'm glad the content is working out.
John Branch IV Photography yeh the best part about hybrid shooting is that I have 100% creative control and the look is matched from stills to video. Also means I can just about double my average client spend by adding a highlight video and options.
thanks for the vid brother. wasnt sure whether to get the galaxy tab s8 or the 2021 ipad pro 11". premeire rush looks very smooth on that ipad so that's what imma do
Good stuff John! I’d def be willing to give it a shot when it supports LUTs and more flexible grading. That’s a big one for videographers who shoot in log footage, especially considering how color-accurate the Apple displays are. But for run and gun, this looks like a super solid option.
Thanks John for the really clear explanations of the great features of Premier Rush. Just paid for it today, and happened to find your tutorial. I also just subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing more videos!
So John, when you're making a longer video to you ever break things up and create multiple segments that you can later stitch together to make a complete work? I was wondering if this kind of workflow is possible within the Adobe Rush interface?
Hi John ! Thank you for this video super helpfull ! I have a question about it: can I ask you what kind of app for screencasting you use ? Thanks a lot !!! Aurelia from Belgium
Can you do a video on how you use your xt3 during a wedding? what iso, shutter speed, and aperture you use for each scene...so how to use your flash trigger for evening events.
Yeah totally. The closest thing I have currently are my full wedding day videos. But if you want some more insight into the specific settings and things I'm always happy to do something like that. For now you can check this out. th-cam.com/video/zyEOKMQ7p74/w-d-xo.html
Hi love your channel! I’m starting a photography business and a cooking you tube channel! My question is about the software Adobe Premier Rush, can you use it if you have an HP laptop? I want to use it for my cooking Channel. Eventually I will invest in an iPad though but for now is that ok?
what is your backup workflow? after getting everything on your sd card, do you transfer to 2 different backups? like 2 external harddrives? and once they are full you tuck them away? i can't imagine what big youtubers do with so much content.
This is pretty rad. So tempted to invest in an iPad pro for quick run and gun projects and drafting up the first edit. I would still do the final finish in premiere tho. I wonder if I can edit straight from an external hard drive instead of using the cloud?
Hey John. Really great tutorial thanks. You inspired me to get an iPad Pro and magic keyboard! Is there a way of making bulk colour and sound edits like you can on the computer? I’ve tried cmd+a etc but can’t seem to find a way of selecting all the clips without manually clicking each of them? Thanks!
Thanks for the great video! Can you recommend some app for editing a workout videos? With good looking countdown timer etc. thank you for your reply =)
Hi!. I would like to know which iPad Pro do you recommend me for editing videos / images using Adobe premiere. I would like to edit them live or just images, using Apple Pencil. Thanks!
Can you? I thought you still had to import it to the iPad to actually work with it. I'm about to try it out since I have a Gnarbox. Also those spearkers on my desk are the Yamaha HS7 reference monitors. I went to school for audio engineering so I'm always on the lookout for great audio.
John Branch IV Photography I’m sorry your correct, the gnarbox does a better job... it’s 100% import from external I don’t know how I missed that. Once you’re done you would have export to external and delete the project. My mistake. Thanks for the heads up on the reference monitors. I guess your using ProTools or logic. Any suggestions for mixing down on an iPad Pro?

Great video with good info John. One quick question I have about Rush. Can you start a project on Rush in the field then continue it in Premiere Pro once back in office for desktop editing and finishing?
You would make a video of you editing this video of you editing the video, but seriously good stuff. Do you know if this works alright on the old 10.2” iPad Pro?
Where is the export option on the ipad where you can set it to 24fps? I see this option on the desktop version but not on the ipad yet adobe Rush says the software is exactly the same. Thanks for the great video.
I think on the iPad it basically just export it the way that you either set up the project or the settings of the main video in it. I’d have to look into it again.
B-Roll is basically footage from a secondary camera. So A-Roll is the main footage. Typically the subject you're wanting show. B-Roll is like supporting footage that matches up with either what A-Roll is talking about or just brings more of the mood along. I hope that makes sense.

Hi John! I know you had already uploaded your videos onto your iPad previously, but how long did it take to transfer majority of your files onto your iPad? I’ve heard from other reviews that the process is complicated. Sometimes it takes hours. Another review video said that some files didn’t transfer over correctly. Thanks!
Awesome video bro. How are you handling the files on the Ipad Pro once have a finalized edited video? Are you moving the files onto a hard drive in order to save storage? Is your workflow similar to for Lightroom (non-classic)?
Thanks for the video John. Can you show me how to merge clips? I have a lengthy clip that I have cut sections. Now I have 8-10 pieces that I want to speed up. I can’t apply the edit to all at once. So I want to merge them back into one clip and apply edits.
Yes. As HUGE difference. Premiere Pro isn't a mobile app and it's the FULL lineup of video editing. Premiere Rush is a mobile app and can also be used on desktop but it's VERY watered down compared to Pro. This looks like it is a very informative video, except that I can't see what you're actually doing on the keypad to know how to do it. I had been using the touchpad to edit, and I like that it may be easier to use the keypad, but things happen so fast that I can't watch the edit on the big screen and what your fingers are actually doing on the small screen. Love your video as always! I've used Adobe rush really dont like it as much. The same for photoshop on the iPad! I think the biggest benefit of those apps is the cloud syncing! But far as functionality and better tools within the app I use other ipad apps!
Agreed. I think this is a nice easy start to video editing which is why I recommend it to a lot of people but for the most part there are much better tools on the iPad. The cloud syncing really is the best part of all of the Adobe apps.
SJ Square Photography I’m with you man. Adobe seems to be the thing holding back the functionality on the iPadPro. PS, Rush and Lightroom are ok but there are so many more improvements to be made
I would say Rush is like the simple entry level video editor and Luma is more the professional editor. A bigger heftier project is going to be better in Luma. But Rush is great for throwing together some nice cuts and making a little video when needed.
Hello, i want have a question, when you delete a clip from the middle you dont have empty space left but i have empty space left between clips so how to do that ?
I'm not sure. But that sounds like your version is crashing. It could be for a multitude of different reasons. But it's always hard to figure out exactly.
@@jbivphotography Have you used Lumafusion? Ive yet too yet have been recommended by a friend over Rush. Im a Premiere Pro man so am thinking that the familiar Adobe feel will be more natural
James Norman dude Lumafusion is the best for editing on iPad. So many more features. Rush is so watered down. I ditched Premier Pro when Lumafusion became a serious replacement 18months ago. I downloaded Rush watching this video and it just crashed all the time. “Unusable”
John Branch IV Photography the guys at Lumatouch say stabilisation is coming in the next update release. Also Rush allows you to select multiple clips and make changes to those. LF only allows one clip at a time.
I'm not sure I understand. However, if your images or video isn't originally in a 16:9 format then it's going to crop it to make it fit. You should be able to either change the size of your video or image or just change the aspect ratio inside of Premier Rush.
@@krolisdead Are you editing a video and then screen recording to try and get past the export? If so that might be why it's cropping it to protect from doing that. However, I'm not sure.
@@krolisdead weird. I’d have to see more on my end. I could try to record some gameplay on my end and test it. Shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to look into it further.
Hi, John. Thanks for the informative video, however you don’t address video format and codecs, which I am having a major problem with. By coincidence, I am also shooting video with my Mavic Air 2. I have shot a disc golf course for a client and Rush has been great as far as editing, speeding up, and even basic color grading, so I feel like I’ve got that part down. Where I’m running into major problems is in the exporting. First I shot the course in 4K h.265, 25fps, mp4. After editing for hours, luckily only the first 6 holes, I exported the video to my older iPad...the 10.2 inch. No matter what quality settings I used, the footage came out jittery and is unusable, unless I want to give viewers a headache. So after some research, I went back and shot the whole course again. This time in 2K h.264, 60fps, mp4. Now when I export the footage (the first 3 holes) I can only export at 1080p and the result is even worse. It’s compressed around a gig into maybe 50mb and it’s so blurry, it’s completely unrecognizable. I’ve spent 3weeks trying to find a solution on my own but have reached the point where I wanna just chuck this iPad out the window. Can you please offer any suggestions? I’m seriously at my wits end with this app and this iPad. Thank you, sir.
@@flouryan_ I tried both and both were jittery after export. But I bought the new Macbook Pro and gave up editing anything major on the iPad. I HAVE heard that the new Ipad Pro with M1 does better, but the Macbook Pro is like editing with a Ferrari. Once you edit with one, no need to go back to a less adequate machine. I had some decent success with the Kinemaster app on the Ipad before getting the new Mac though.
Most likely he isn’t exporting directly to YT from Rush. Probably just exporting the file to his ipad storage and then going to YT and uploading the file then.
Who else uses and loves Adobe Premier Rush?

James Norman dude Lumafusion is the best for editing on iPad. So many more features. Rush is so watered down. I ditched Premier Pro when Lumafusion became a serious replacement 18months ago. I downloaded Rush watching this video and it just crashed all the time. “Unusable”
Is it possible to edit in premiere rush on the iPad then export the xml and finish the edit in premiere pro on PC?
Yep yep. I think you can actually just open up the same projects in premiere pro
So this Adobe Rush doesn't have the video stabilization options, isn't it? Can you please check the Luma Touch?
That's correct. Lumafusion also doesn't have stabilization. I'm curious when either of these apps will get it. It would be a HUGE game changer.
John Branch IV Photography the guys at Lumatouch say stabilisation is coming in the next update release. Also Rush allows you to select multiple clips and make changes to those. LF only allows one clip at a time.
How can I save it to my files?
It doesn’t seem like the app has the option to save to files. Which is unfortunate.
@@jbivphotography It looks like it automatically saves to camera roll now
help me when i edit it, it crops the top and bottom when i do 16:9
I'm not sure I understand. However, if your images or video isn't originally in a 16:9 format then it's going to crop it to make it fit. You should be able to either change the size of your video or image or just change the aspect ratio inside of Premier Rush.
@@jbivphotography i screen record it yet it still crops it out
@@krolisdead Are you editing a video and then screen recording to try and get past the export? If so that might be why it's cropping it to protect from doing that. However, I'm not sure.
@@jbivphotography no i record my game play and then i put it on premiere rush and it crops top and bottom
@@krolisdead weird. I’d have to see more on my end. I could try to record some gameplay on my end and test it. Shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to look into it further.
Can it edit pro res video ?
I haven’t tried actually. I would be curious to see if it does it.
Thank you 🙏
His hair it looks like he’s bald with a wig great vid love the content bro
my dad works at adobe. and he helped me
Hi, did it work out 1 year later? I think your Problem was the Video Format itself. For Apple stuff you need to shoot as .mov instead of .mp4.
A bit late to this but hope you are doing better bro!
Nice ...
SOOOO how do you export to TH-cam...I didn't see the option?
Most likely he isn’t exporting directly to YT from Rush. Probably just exporting the file to his ipad storage and then going to YT and uploading the file then.
