Yes, it is possible check out Christopher Lawley he run his entire channel of an iPad for years.
You can pull the files straight from your camera thru USB-c to iPad. iPad see’s camera as a drive
Would love to see a full DavinciResolve workflow and Render video. Like putting content in Davinci, edit, color grade, Fusion (performance of fusion effects) and rendering.
You may have over complicated the connection issue. If you use the dongle/expansion. You can connect power, SSD and SD card to the one dongle if you get the right dongle. So you are connecting once not back an forth as you demonstrated.
This is stupid! I love Apple but after over 10 generations we still don’t have expandable sd slot while android has this under $600 bucks. Can everyone just boycott till they give us what we want?
@@toyshanger8945 Most people don't use SD cards. Most laptops and computers don't have SD slots. Should we boycott all those? The usb c will give you the IO you want
Im suprissed cuz I can use multiple ssds when connected to my monitor, including mouse and transfer files from one ssd to another and the same thing with pendrives
@@toyshanger8945What is an "expandable sd slot" ??
@@toyshanger8945 no
Comments on the nano texture glass? Better add a third party anti-glare screen protector to regular glass iPad? Storage size? Thanks.
I’ve been using the iPad Pro as my daily since 2021 for literally everything besides music making I still use my pc for fl studio and video games now with the new M4 I just bought I’m very happy with the performance and mobility I have with it! I can’t stress it enough to people you don’t realize you need and iPad Pro till you have one and use it in your daily work flow.
Great video. I'm interested in switching from my M2 Macbook 14 to iPad only. This was helpful so I subscribed. Thank you!
HI Chris! Do you think that iPad 12.9
+keyboard it ‘s lighter than MacBook Air m3? Ora vs MacBook m3 pro?
Going from the 2018 iPad Pro to the new M4 and am stoked!
Check out the Acasis 6in1 dock, it’s an SSD enclosure and dock, allows seamsless transfer of data from cards in one and charging pass through etc
You beat me to it
That's awesome. Will check it out.
That's awesome!
Do you happen to the know exact model number?
Yes it is a dock, but it doesn't have a sd card reader in it. I think that is what he wanted a Sd card reader, plus a ssd and dongle all in. That I think is not yet made.
2:59 I have one of those. Acasis makes it. It's an ssd enclosure that has an SD card and mini slot, two USB 3.1 ports, one type C 3.1 port, gigabit ethernet and HDMI out. You do have to supply your own ssd. But I have 4 TB on the go that's about the same size as your reader there.
What do you want to see in the full review? Also *quick note is that the 13 inch is 5.1mm not 5.3mm (honest flub in the video)*
Seeing how far you can push FCPX, CapCut and Resolve and what it can do with it that you can’t with a desktop/laptop and vice verse 🙏🏾
This is the video I needed!
Staying tuned for the longer video with fcp
Great video can't wait for your second one for a full review. I wish we could still use our old Apple Pencil and the new one which just have more features that's all. Also, you can keep your dongle plugged in to your iPad and have power and SSD plugged in at the same time.
I’ve been using the first iPad Pro since it came out, and it’s been so reliable, it’s the only apple product where I can say I’ve never had any complaints or problems that have done my head in. Finally upgrading because it won’t update anymore, and up to now this new iPad is amazing its more powerful than my MacBook Pro (most recent) and I know from 20 minutes with it I’m gonna get so many years out of it and I won’t be upgrading in the next few years. I’m loving it so far. I can’t wait to see what else I can do with it, even after 8 years with my old iPad Pro I was still learning new things with it right up to the day before I received this iPad.
Aloha, do you think 256GB would be enough storage for storing apps, playing games, and editing DJI drone videos? I don't want to overspend for the 512GB if I don't have to. Thanks for your detailed video!
Can you use the iPad and apple pencil to edit smoothly connecting to your Macbook pro or Mac using all Mac apps via screen mirroring?
if you can do a video on that
I’m getting mine tomorrow! I can’t wait, love my old iPad Pro, still great, but 4k video make is struggle, hopefully this will help
Which model? 2022?
@@MaiONerdsNone of the M chip iPad Pros should have issues with 4K videos.
@@2slowpoke929 To be honest A12X should also have no issues handling 4k. It is basically an M chip but using A12 cores
Thank you for super review
Hey Chris... thanks for the video. In the past, I used my camera mainly for images. These days though, I'm being asked to shoot more video. On the SSD front, I can't say enough about the SanDisk Pro Blade enclosure. Yes, it's one more thing to bring, but man, does it make recording and transferring big files a piece of cake. The Pro Transport copies files over at 2,000 MB/sec. After one project using it, I'm never going back to SD cards. Don't know for sure, but I'm assuming you can use the M4 iPad Pro's USB-C to copy the raw video files in it for editng.
Do you think the 8gb difference between the 9 core and 10 core version makes a matter? Or the basic version is just enough or even overkill for video editing?
My new M4 iPad Pro 13 arrives today. I also got the new Micro Color Panel and been familiarizing myself with it, You also have the Speed Editor - you have a complete mobile studio. Oh yes, I do a lot of my video editing on the iPad with Resolve also. One thing you might want to consider is that you can also use and Apple TV box to air cast a clean video out to any monitor/TV with a HDMI input. For a mobile video editor - I do not feel limited by the iPad and now with the new monitor and pencil Pro - new possibilities open up. Looking forward to the experience.
i agree 😀
I want to know if you can use resolve 19 with all the new ai features on the iPad. If I can use the full might of resolve on the iPad editing files from my zve1 then this would be a game changer
Thanks for sharing it great video. ✌️
Looking for testing of compound clips on ipad, some sources indicate this is now supported. Also, could you test editing of long interviews?
Like this is cool but can it stand 5+ layers ?
Need to upgrade my 2016 MacBook Pro. I’m told this is better performing. Now I just wonder if I can use Final Cut on this and replace my MacBook. I have a keyboard and trackpad already. The iPad is super versatile. So I could edit in bed. However I would need my keyboard anyway. And it’s gonna be more flimsy than a laptop. So idk if this is gonna work.
Benefit is I can finance this with no interest through my phone carrier.
Same here !!! Moving from a 2015 MacBook Pro to IPad m4 11 inch
Same here👍
which lut are u using on this video out of your lut pack ?
So I’m thinking on getting a iPad m4 to just edit videos from a x4 360 can I was wondering if a iPad is worth it
2:47 why you have to discount buy a faster USB C hub in that case u don’t have to do that, I have Anker USB C Hub 541, it works like a charm.
Hey does anyone know how to zoom in/out the timeline on DaVinci resolve iPad ? No keyboard
Also what app do you use to edit videos
Hi I have the iPad Pro 12.9 32gig had it some time now, I mainly use it for watching videos and media. Would I find this a much better device or not. Looking at the 10inch
Dang almost 5K for an iPad and it doesn’t even come with a sticker
Nowhere near 500K
5k $??
@@lime-animates-2763 if you watched this video, he said the way he wanted the iPad Pro it was almost $5000. I believe he said it was like $4400 so that’s pretty close to to 5K
@@parhampwrc did you even watch this video or are you just commenting because he said the way he wanted it it comes to almost $5000.
5K Canadian probably
I will be interested in your future Resolve experiences. Since I already have a calibrated monitor with my PC kit, I am curious about an iPad for scopes. M4 version may be over kill. Also, the Mini Color Panel should be coming in a few weeks so that I am in no hurry.
Love those Genelec ones.
Anyone know if the upgrade for FCP on iPad will be released at the same time as the new iPads? That is what I’m interested to see and use on the m4 Pro.
It will be available in a few days.
Do real use pro m4 vs pro m1 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
How is it with photos buddy?
COULD YOU mentione in one of your following videos on this topic how to jump from ipad to PC and backwards without using the DR cloud services, just using a simple external drive?
Please?
What is this filmed on?
I use HyperDrive next 11 port USB_C on my ipad and it can connect ssd, sd and power at the same time
Don’t forget you can turn on the other pages besides “cut” and “color” in DR.
Without plugins it’s hard to justify the “pro” in Final Cut Pro for the iPad.
I tried to use it and it’s just so limited. *Final Cut lite*
Hi Chris, I have a gadget to solve your workflow on iPad. Get a Acasis hub with M.2 slot (get 1 or 2 TB card) and has sd card slots, usbc, usb3.1 & 3.0, hdmi, power usbc input, cat5 and headphone jack. No more need to get extra hard drive and never change the hub. I for safety reasons copy my sd cards directly onto the SSD M.2 then remove my camera card so I'm safe if something happens to the files. Hope this helps. Gary Abbott another TH-camr in a different space.
I’m switching careers and getting into photography/ videography as a profession. I like the idea of the iPad being lighter but I hear some people complain about the lack of features in iOS. Should I get a MacBook Pro m3 max or the new iPad Pro m4?
No doubt, go for Macbook
Lacie makes a hard drive that has a card reader. I dont think an ssd tho
Getting mine tomorrow iPad Pro 512gb in space great as always baby.
Space grey or nothing
Do you think the 12gb ram is worth going to the tb. Or would 9gb work and just use SSDs.
Photo Editing and Resolve
Personally as someone who has never had an iPad, but has a 2016 MacBook Pro, I think you want more ram IF you wanna keep using this thing for the next 8 years. Standards will change. Look at the first iPads. They were impressive at launch. Later down the line, the standard for specs and demand and AI will increase. I say for longevity, go for the higher option if you can afford it. If you can’t afford it, fine you just may need an upgrade sooner. That’s my take.
@@switchunboxing ended up with 1tb 12gb ram.
I decided these thoughts basically. Haha
@@MaxWildlifePhotographer You using it for video editing? I'm wondering if its gonna work for me as im on a MacBook Pro currently.
@@switchunboxing giving it a shot anyway. I’m so used to keyboard commands on adobe premier that it’ll be a learning experience to do more of my workflow in Resolve and (finally) trying out Final Cut.
How much storage on the iPad do you need to have fast and smooth workflow?
please test different storage on iPad on your next video please :)
I'd love to have plugins of FCPX , Nik Collections etc to work in iPad OS. Like we get to open some link or something from one app to another app. A compositing app for iPad OS would be nice :) . Awesome video & Thanks :)
For 95% of iPad users. The Air is the “iPad Experience”. Get a refurbished M1 Air if you want the 11”. The reason I love the iPad is that I can have a vertical screen for web and documents. The addition to running iPhone exclusive apps in a floating window has been the chefs kiss.
Test speed ramp . noise reduction. masking. Add effects. On davinci
Name of monitor at 1:23
It is basically at best with MacOS a MacBook Air with M4 with only 16 GB of Ram.
Strange pricing in Canada. Here in the UK the difference with a similarly spec’d M3 MacBook Pro is only £150 (that’s with Magic Keyboard no pencil).
Different import fees maybe?
Can we decreae the Adobe podcast strength to 50% or 40%?

I’ve had my m1 iPad Pro corrupt
My external drive and read about a few people have that issue. It’s put me off trusting iPad with externals
Interesting thoughts, it does seem a bit over the top to add all these steps to your workflow just to be able to use the Apple Pencil 🤔
Considering that it's still Ipad OS doubt they'll ever bridge the Gap certainly not gonna convince a Desktop/Laptop Final Cut, Premiere Pro, Protools, Logic ect user to Crossover
Bro your shots and editing are insane
I’m only hung up on the 16gb ram vs 32gb I’d prefer from a MacBook Pro. I want to get into film production, and know that the IPad Pro can at least cover the photoshop, illustrator, and Logic work I’d use it for.
What do you use now? Even 8gb of ram on apple silicone is superrrrrrrr fast from what I’m told. If you’re not on apple silicone right now, you’re not even comparing apples to apples from what I’m told. 8gb on an apple chip is not 8gb ram on an intel chip. It’s like the equivalent to 2 or 3x. From what I’m told.
There are hubs that have more usbc connections
they shoiuld just build SD car slot in the pro ipad! come on Tim apple!
All those plugins you cant use on FCP
If you have the time and space to poke away at an iPad, you can do so much more using a MacBook Pro. Touch on an MBP would have been better to introduce rather than FCP on an iPad.
One thing everyone should expect is when tandem OLED comes to MacBook Pros those prices are going up!
We just need OBS and unlimited camera and broadcast period.
It’s like blizzcon but to fcpx users: do you not have iPads?!
Thing looks sick!
Hello,
I wanted to kindly remind you that I sent you a message regarding your videos.
Do we have your permission to use them?
We would be happy to know if there is any special requirement for publishing your videos that we could fulfill.
Thank you! :)

Do you know if the Final Cut Pro 2 is the live multi cam available for all M processor or just for the M4 I have an M2 with 16 ram thanks.
you talk about color grading. we heard now that it has a nice olded display. but can you calibrate it? or is it just perfect out of the box wich make me unsecure if i can not tweak the display profile.
Yes. It fully supports CalMan calibrated standards and those can be saved and viewed by Final Cut, Davinci etc.
I have the iPadPro12.9in 512gb 2nd gen model the time is now for am UPGRADE!!! Getting mine in the next few days 13in 1TB standard screen ahhhhhh heres to long over do better creative workflow
Why do we think developers were holding off bringing real pro apps en masse to the iPad in the past? The M1 and M2 were powerhouses as well with plenty of RAM.
A $4000 reference monitor... cool
The video looks like it was filmed on a Lumix S5
I currently have the M1 iPad pro. I love it! That being said it is NOT a replacement for a computer. The performance is limited by iOS, likely due to cooling issues (no fan on iPad). It's great for digital sculpting (NOMAD), and 2D animation (Procreate Dreams). Photoshop is ok but you'll be missing all of the neural engine features which I believe are only available with NVIDIA GPUs. The file system for iOs leaves a lot to be desired. If you need an editing station I'd recommend looking at the mac book if you're a final cut person or something with an NVidia GPU if you use Davinci or Premiere.
Like it's cool. But if it's between a MacBook or an iPad... I mean you can't even move the icons where you want on an iPad not to mention all the other problems. Again it's cool really cool even. But yeah I'm going to pick a real computer every time if it's between the two. It's more of an extra bonus if I could afford it to me. Definitely not a replacement. But it is sexy.
let me kow because i want something smaller to edit on
still doesnt support 16:9 screen!
Apple is real close to editors ditching the laptop for an iPad but it’s just not quite there yet for me. Either way mine shows up tomorrow. 🤷🏼
There is only one huge draw to this product and it's purely the screen. 1000nit big OLED screen with the color accuracy and PQ EOTF tracking of a mastering display? This would be perfect for HDR 1000nits monitoring.
Over price, in few months M4 will come down to the desk top with lower and better performance!
aww lizzie's room turns green. i miss it. sorry!
I have iPad Pro 12.9" w/ M2 chip and feel there were missed opportunities even on that. Final Cut for iPad works fine, but honestly feels clunky in comparison to Davinci Resolve. I don't know if the limitations are on the iPad OS or if Adobe is lazy, but Lightroom and Photoshop are watered down too much. Lightroom has become much better, but iPad photoshop is a let down. I love editing photos on my iPad w/ iPencil 2(I think), but have to be on desktop for bigger projects due to missing features that the M1-M3 processors are more than capable of handling. At this new price point, they should have gone ahead and used it to be direct replacement to the Macbook Air, and given it the full desktop OS.
I think the idea of editing on an iPad is great, but functionally it doesn't quite cut it no matter how well speced it is. I use final cut and like you said, having to switch systems to finish a video is wild with the tech we have today. That's cool that Davinci allows seamless flow through their service, why can't all editors offer that haha. It'll be cool to see what people come up with. Solid video bro!
I'm from Thailand. Do you like Thailand ? Welcome to Bangkok Thailand
This is like a promo of the product. Not the actual experience.. didn’t mention any big cons of it.. I use iPad Pro m1 to edit videos ..
I heard that it might run apple os. If it does ill buy if not Ill check the m3 air
Chris, meant warmly but you’re gonna last about five minutes using an iPad, I’m currently in Paris and I’ve backed up some photos to OneDrive and some videos to my iCloud, now I want to import those photos into Lightroom, two hours later I’ve given up, the operating system is diabolical And I’ll just go back to using my iPad Pro as a consumption device.
The pricing is absolutely ridiculous .I’ll stick with my M2 IPad Pro.
Just watched the first 3rd of the video…. Haven’t learned anything yet.
