  • This is my professional DaVinci Resolve iPad Pro Workflow: How to edit Reels while travelling and this is the exact process that I use to edit all of my reels only using an iPad Pro. Everything I show in DaVinci Resolve for the iPad in this video is absolutely FREE. The app is also FREE to download. Now I prefer to use the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil 2 when editing but they are by no means necessary All you need is an iPad Pro and your finger and you can easily edit professional looking video on the go. Hopefully this gives you a glimpse into my process as I do have a full course available on my site.

    I've been trying to get a more practical use out of my new iPad lately, and this really helped steer me in a great direction! I've been getting into DaVinci for color grading so this would be cool to do if I'm out and about doing some filming and then head to a café to do some color grading before heading home. I didn't even know there's a finder system on the iPad either, super neat! Time to get a portable SSD 😂

    The only downside is that we can realy see what you are doing because your to far from your screen maybe for the next video you could switch over the screen recording at some point so that on my phone I could see (ill be watching it again on my laptop 💻👍 and give you an extra view 😆 and a 3rd one once I need to color grade on DaVinci next time

    just got a m2 ipad for xmas and been doing this as well. my biggest issue has been exporting, constant fails and then a random win. Also running into issues where my grades are not coming through correctly. I know some updates will take care of this and become a workhorse.

    Nice video, thank you, I feel like the iPad could have been larger in the video to make it easier to see, only took up about 1/9 of the screen. I managed to zoom in so I could keep up with what you were saying. Thanks for taking the time to teach.

    Im on a macbook pro 16 and thinking of upgrading… im using fcpx and thinking of using DaVinci now because of your well explanation on how to use DaVinci on color grading process
    And probably some ai adobe stuff
    Do you think I should go for a m3 macbook pro 14inch
    Or the ipad m2 is way enough to do raw footage (dji mini 3 pro and sony fx3) do you think I will save a lot of weight on my back using a m2 what is your true recommendation?

    I love my ipad pro 12.9" w/ M2. Unfortunately, apps like Lightroom and Photoshop are fairly watered down from the desktop version. They're slowly adding desktop features, so we'll eventually get there. Something about editing on ipad with Apple Pencil that makes it a little more fun. As for iPad version of FCP... I keep wanting it to be good, but it's too far behind the competition. At this point, just gonna do the paid version of the davinci resolve ipad app. Apparently you can unlock more features through hotkeys on your magic keyboard.

    • @airbazoo
      @airbazoo  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Just like the desktop version there is a free and premium version of DaVinci - since I use my iPad to edit only while travelling the free version of DaVinci works fine for me as I edit on FCPX when at home! Stay tuned for my photoshop workflow :)

    • @jaredmeche6325
      @jaredmeche6325 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@airbazoo Yeah, photoshop for ipad recently added some good stuff. Something to note on the iPad Pro(M2) is that you need to upgrade to the 1TB or 2TB model to get the 16GB RAM. 128gb - 512gb is 8GB RAM. I'm on the 128gb / 8GB RAM model, and it works fine, but I will 100% opt for the 1TB next time I buy one. I'd also like to point out the free version of iPad Davinci Resolve can do 10-bit 4.2.2 footage. I own studio on my desktop, but the free desktop version only covers up to 10-bit 4.2.0. Not sure if that was oversight.

  • @davidstoeckl86

    I have an iPad air to cut short reels. I have massive problems with the Files app. I imported an existing project on the iPad, the files are on an external SSD (Samsung T7). After linking, the clips are correctly shown in the timeline. As soon as I press play, the Files app crashes, the SSD is no longer readable and the iPad has to be restarted.
    Have you ever had a similar problem?

  • @kaithefilmgeek

    You should work in DaVinci WG/Intermediate for your timeline colour space not Rec 709 as this provides a wider gamut to work in, before converting to Rec 709 if outputting for social media. Not my advice but seen it from a few colourists on YT. ;)

      @rowbyrowby 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The problem with Final Cut Pro for the iPad is you can not seamlessly use an external Solid State drive. With DaVinci you can plug in an SSD and nothing touches your iPad storage. I have a 4 Terabyte external SSD -and DaVinci is doing all the work on my SSD. Even better, I subscribed to DaVinci Cloud which lets me edit the same project on my desktop and my iPad. The media is still kept on the SSD card so I just plug the SSD into my desktop and can work on the same project with both the iPad and Desktop. And with DaVinci cloud you can have multiple people work on the same project as long as they have copies of your media files.
      Before I tried DaVinci I tried out LumaFusion. LumaFusion can work with an external SSD drive. However LumaFusion has a miserable keyframes system. It is really awful for key framing. When I did a Google search I found that many people who use LumaFusion were complaining about its primitive keyframe system. LumaFusion’s cheerful support would answer those complaints by saying they are “working on it”. However, I could see they were were saying that they were “working on it” for at least 2 years.
      So I was thrilled when I checked out DaVinci. It has integrated SSD support and great key framing and many many more features. You can use the free version or the Studio Version. I’m using the Studio version and love it. For basic editing you can use DaVinci’s basic editing features or jump into its advanced features.
      Also I am using Apple’s Magic Keyboard. I power my iPad by plugging the USB cable into the keyboard - which keeps my iPad fully charged.. And I plug my SSD into my iPad’s power USB port.
      I’ve been involved in video editing for decades, starting when network TV shows were recorded on 2 inch video tape and for some shows the tape was physically spliced under a microscope with razor blades. On one hour length TV comedy series we had over 200 edits. All had to be done with the razor blade method. So DaVinci is a creative miracle for me, …Rowby.

    The iPad versions are so nerfed for production work. My iPad M1 Pro 12.9 has been relegated to an entertainment device and a 2nd monitor next to the Macbook Pro I am actually working on. The Apps, even Adobe are so out of date and devoid of features. Did DaVinci even add the Edit tab yet, without hacking the options? How big is the memory on your iPad that you can import all the FPV drone video and edit? You can't even edit straight from your SSD on an iPad. Then, managing the files that are now duplicated and have different versions on your SSD and iPad. Yuck. Plus, if your iPad storage is enough to really go on a vacation duration shoot, what you spent on that could have bought a much better machine. My 16" M2 Macbook Pro Max is 1.5 lbs more than the iPad with keyboard. The iPad is SO heavy but I will admit, the screen is the best of any device out there, period.

    • @giancarlocipolla4254
      @giancarlocipolla4254 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t know what version you are using, but I’m editing on my 11inch IPad Pro M2 (8gb) straight from my Samsung T7 SSD. Footage from my Sony A6700, 4k 10bit 4:2:2 looks great. Only issue so far is that the frame drop on preview screen, but I discovered that the software can make proxy’s straight on ipad, it solved the frame drop problems. In general, Adobe is the one that is not doing their job, Photoshop for Ipad is terrible to use, Lightroom lacks features from desktop version…My main computer is a Mac Mini M1, but for sure my Ipad have been a hell of a addition to my professional setup.

    • @TheThaiLife
      @TheThaiLife 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not that it doesn't look good, it just lacks extreme functionality. You aren't understanding my comment. You are NOT editing from your Samsung T7. You are IMPORTING into your device from the T7. Huge difference is that no matter what size iPad you have, it isn't enough for descent sized projects as far as internal memory. Not just that but the features are stripped. What you call professional and what others call professional is not necessarily the same.
