How does this rule work when you use "whose" ? For example, whose phone is this ? . Here the information comes before Auxiliary verb.

Why this rule is not followed in some questions like - What colour would you prefer? Here, the word colour has come before the auxillary. Which subject do you take this year. Even here, the word subject has come before do. Do throw more light on this please
