Dear teacher, ı am a retired teacher of English from Turkey; What ı had been doing for the last 40 years had got nothing to do with teaching daily English , but translation techniques in scientific literature. One thing ı dare to correct in your exercise line: if the noun advice is uncountable, so you have to say MUCH OF HIS ADVİCE, instead of MOST of.... thanks dear lady..
I really give the due recognition for the lesson above that it sometimes confuses English as a Foreign Language Learners. so it very important.
Simple explanation no worries.
Are: It can be used for more than one element
Is : It can be used for an element
Hello teacher Rebecca. I appreciate the way you teach here. Although I am a beginner, I'm understanding things very well. God bless you.
Thanks, Rebecca. I use a lot of your videos for the ESL class I teach. They're very clear, and it's also nice to see all the info you've written on a white board. That saves me from doing it too! 😊
People who are non-native speakers are far better at English. It is quite shocking.
Thank you teacher Rebecca, you’ve really helped me to improve in my speaking, reading, writing and listening skills.
What 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I've been finding a video which clear my confusion while using 'is' & 'are' but thank to you for cleared it.
Your lesson is easy understand because you speak slowly. Thank you so much. Its really help me recall my memory something I used to studied.
The most outstanding Teacher in the detailedly grammar analysis. awesome ❤❤
Such a competent teacher, thank you very much Rebecca.
Thanks alot, you are my first teacher ,i have learned more from your lessons.
A big shout to me. Am so happy I finally pass my boards after 3 attempts and failing🥳🥳🥳🥳. Thanks Girl for the recommendation 😊😊He did help me🥳🥳🥳. Thanks so much can't Express how relief I am😊.
I love how you delivered this subject matter, Rebecca. I'm learning well with my daughter. Looking forward for more🥰 Thank you
i am a filipino and had been taught that the word "some" per se refers to or means 'more than one' or 'several'. hence, 'are'. except in the case of 'someone' or 'somebody' which are definitely singular (because body and one are both singular.
The word "some" can be confusing too, sometimes.
I spill some milk on the table. In this case, "some" means "a little"
I speak to some people at the park. In this case, "some" means "several"
as a filipino (thus not a native english speaker), i do hope somebody would shed light on what it really should be.
❤ I remember I used your illustration even though they seemed irrelevant to over qualified student's.
But they learnt never to judge a book by its cover, they are in the Hospitality Management fields, and are set for the Forbes, travel awards. Seeing you today reminded me of your perfectionist image.
Ps. they didn’t get to see you I took your example ‘s forward.
I'm from PNG, I really enjoyed listening to this video. Thank you
A very good lesson! Thank you!
Native English speakers almost always get this right, but many of us don't really know why that is. I did know it was singular/plural related but this was most illuminating. Thank you.
I beg to differ. Many. Including most Americans, dont get the non obvious ones wrong. No one. Everyone. None etc. most speakers use the plural. Our mother taught us the rule about 'one'.
Less and fewer is another one. Very few people use 'few', 'fewer' and then, of course, there is 'of' instead of 've' as in should've. Contraction of should have.
Rebecca, this lesson would have been the perfect lesson to discuss a grammatical error that is displayed at the check-out counter of many supermarkets where a sign is posted that reads "This aisle is for ten items or less." Here the difference between items that can be counted (such as bottles of water or containers of milk) and those that cannot be counted or cannot be easily counted (such as sugar, rice, and salt) dictates whether the words "fewer" or "less" should be used in these situations.
My name is arun from india,my mother tongue is tamil, i know tamil language only, but your way of teaching made it easy for me to understand, thank you mam...🙏🙏🙏
Very important lesson. I still find myself making some of the mistakes highlighted here.. thanks for bringing this up..
Extremely useful. Thanks a lot. I was never clear about the correct usage, although I used to get them correct by chance. You are such a great teacher!!! Thank you so much 😊
My teacher thanks you for how explained the lessons
Thank you for teaching my son because he’s exam is perfect thank you😊
I'd like to know why an idea is countable but advise is not. Both are abstract nouns created in our minds.
Thank you for the lesson. I always appreciate it.
Ideas can be countable. Its because Idea is a one particular thing that has one information. Example, " My idea is this tree will collaps" but when it comes to ADVICE it has more information in it. However you may think advice too countable. No they are not. Unless you say give me ONE ADVICE. Or Piece of ADVISE. or word of ADVICE. Advise can not be break into elements.
Advice” is an uncountable noun, which means you can't say “an advice” or refer to multiple “advices.” Instead, it's common to use expressions like “a word of advice,” or “two pieces of advice.” She gave me two pieces of sound advice. She gave me sound advice. She gave me sound advices. Hope it is clear to you now.
AS A PROFESSOR IN TESOL/ESL ENGLISH I WOULD LIKE TO SAY YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT TEACHER. KEEP THE GOOD WORK!

I first learnt English when I was a teenager, I found this language very fun to learn and it was very easy to master as well. After around forty days, I almost completely understood English grammar inside out. It sounds like joking, but I know English grammar better than my own native language 😅
😊
Pleas help how I can start learn english
@@abdullahalsada4975 From the sentence you wrote, you are already good in English grammar 👍 You need to read more novels to learn the usage part of the language. But a little correction, '.. how I can start learning English.'
No master my dear friend
When I first learned English in primary school, many, many moons ago, we learned that things like teams are grammatically singular, so in a cricket match, the commentator will say something like "Australia is in trouble now", even though the team of course consists of many individuals. And indeed, that is just what they did - until perhaps ten years or so ago, when suddenly, one day, all sports commentators apparently collectively decided that teams are plural. And so now I constantly hear them saying things like "Australia are in trouble."
As much as it pleases me to hear of the Aussie team's woes, it grates on me every time I hear that kind of thing. After a lifetime of battling it out with English grammar, and still constantly stumbling over its many pitfalls, it now turns out that even native English speakers cannot decide what the correct usage of their own language is.
I give up. I shall henceforth wave around my accented, barbarian English with pride. :-)
How about news? I learnt that the correct way to say is news is. But some people say news are😅
I’m from Khmer and your the best teacher ever I’m new❤ 0:38

Can you address the difference between the words principal and principle?
And each other and one another please.
Thank you in advance.
Hey there. I'm not a language teacher but English is my first language so I thought I'd take a crack at answering your questions. The difference between principle and principal is that the first is a guiding rule, or ethic, whereas the second is a title. For example, you could say something like 'I always check my blind spot when changing lanes, even when I know there's no traffic. It's the principle of the thing'.
A principal is usually used to refer to a school headmaster. However, you can also use it to mean primary, or most important. Such as 'the principal investors of this project are very concerned about its progress'.
As for 'each other' versus 'one another', there is very little difference. They mean the same thing. Typically, however, you'd say 'each other' in less formal settings, and when specifically talking about two things. You could say, for example, 'the gunfighters drew in a flash and shot each other dead'.
'One another' is slightly more formal (a bit more stuffy), and can be used when talking about more general topics. For example: 'Reciprocation is very important in society; the way we treat one another determines the type of community we build'.
Hope that helps.
@@nono7105 Thank you my friend, I appreciate you
@@renostubbs8504 No worries.

Madam, I would like you to make a lesson on this topic.
Why does it go this way, it starts with singular but ends with plural, like,
If anybody comes tell them that I'm not around.
If anybody gives you something say thank you to them, or say thank you to that person.
Please madam teach us on this topic it's so confusing.
Best teacher at all
Thank you very much ❤

YOU ARE FROM THE GOVERNMENTS
Hilarious bro I just came here from him too 😂
Thank you. You are a great teacher.
For the benefit of everyone, especially, sadly, native speakers everywhere, please do a lesson on verb/collective noun agreement. Here’s an example to illustrate my pet peeve in modern English usage world-wide: “Microsoft ARE developing software.” versus “”Microsoft IS developing software.” The latter case is correct but everyone, and I mean everyone, gets is wrong!
(microsoft-- the company) IS.."
but, "the people at microsoft ARE" (this about many people,,)
❤❤❤❤
Police is uncountable but uses "are"
Great information. The word police is an exception in English
I've just seen it on TH-cam today and was surprised by: the police Are...
So police are uncountable?
Thank you for your lesson!!
Police is unaccountable 😂
Police, team, audience, committee, jury, board etc. are used with both singular and plural in singular form

There is so much common sense in this that I cannot understand that anyone can get confused!!
Ma'am I have been understood clearly thank you for making us learning easily the words
This is a very good lesson. I always have to remind my SAT students about this kind of mistake.
Thank you Madam. Very valuable lesson.
Please make a lesson on the differences between: It is vs This is. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are indeed qualified teacher
An Excellent Teacher.
New subscribers here and thanks for all that you’re doing, it’s very helpful.
Nice, English being my 4th or 5th language, not sure if I should be saying this but I thought I'd mention since I hear a lot of people even the native speakers making these mistakes. People often say "There's a lot of things that I need to do, there's more things to be dealt with" where I believe it should be "There are a lot... and there are more things......" I hope I have explained it clearly. Thank you.
😊 very nice voice for us learning

On 2no. It will be is because 'Equipment' is singular noun
Would be good for free ESL night-classes for new migrants. This one is pretty easy, not sure if it's a real problem. The verbs in third-person seems to be more difficult to remember. "He has not he have" "He goes not he go" "she buys not she buy, but she bought not she boughts", etc.
