I did exactly the same thing when I built my first v8. Second guessed myself and tore it down and measured everything and put it back together. Did it again when I built my 1st 7.3 powerstroke. I found a 1" long piece of broken piston ring in the piston box while cleaning up after final assembly and freaked out! Tore it down and checked all the rings and they were all normal. A stray random dang piece of a piston ring just by chance landed in my box when it was packed up at the supplier I suppose.

It was almost like you were speaking to me for a minute there...
I'm that guy who is broken and literally hates money. It was almost eerie considering my current circumstance.

Lol, I was changing the valve cover gasket on my bmw, one of the rear valve cover bolts was getting in the way so I removed it as I was installing it. At around 12:am I had thought I lost the bolt, so I searched for about 3 hours... the next day I put the cover on, without the bolt, and miraculously the bolt appeared on the shock tower..where I left it.

When going through the bottom with engine removal, did the engine get put on a cart under the rv?

When going through the bottom.. do the driveshafts need to be removed completely?.. you mentioned disconnecting them but not removing them.

No, you don't remove them. Just unbolt them from the differential and they swing out of the way. The P.S. stub shaft under the oil pan does need to come out, but that's easy.

apparently GM Never intended for the motor to ever come out because they never thought the life cycle was more than 10-15 years; never once did they ever think in my opinion that these things would be around 50+ years later and people would still want them and want to fix them.
