Buyers and sellers: where’s your head

  • You and I will come and go on this earth but the GMC will continue to be here and taught after!
In essence, buyers and sellers of these automotive artifacts have a responsibility to be a good steward as they enjoy it in their lives.
And yes, they find their GMC does not fit their life you will recognize when it’s time to pass on the torch of stewardship to the next.
Yeah, kinda mushy but really, I see it as an honor and a duty to support these machines and if you have this understanding you can’t go wrong looking after one of these classics.
    Thanks for your support……

Jim, thanks for all the guidance on the 31k mile Palm Beach a few weeks ago. I ultimately passed on it, since I can't get into the engine where I'm at. It was a good one - and cheap at $7,500, I felt. When I got it fired up, it smoked like crazy, and I really think it had blown head gaskets, maybe a cracked block or heads. 😞
I'm getting a '78 23' Birchaven side bath (driver side) delivered to me tomorrow that I tried to avoid for almost 2 months. It had made it to a salvage yard and wasn't long for this world...but I had a gut feeling about it. I finally drove the 540 miles to see it, and it was even filthier than in the ad pictures! I've never seen that many dirt dauber nests in my life!
The yard owner hooked me up with a fellow who's towing it for me on a low trailer for $1500 ($3/mile didn't seem that unreasonable). I gave $2800 for the MH, so I'm into it for $4300. Of course, I realize that I haven't even started spending money.
I could have gotten a nicer 26' for not much more money, but this little beast is just what I wanted. It still has the single bags, and the lines and air compressor are even hooked up. The late owner had a reputation for spending whatever it took to keep his vehicles in shape, and he drove it often. The bad part is that after he passed, the coach sat out in a pasture for about 12 years.
The rear couches folded down will make a bed I can leave set up, and the three windows around it will make for some great views! I posted video of my "inspection" and will be documenting my budget resto. I'm going to function, and will keep the overall theme with as much wood as I can manage. Looking forward to the project!
Oh - and I have no idea if it'll even start. LOL - went against my better judgment on that, fingers crossed that I didn't screw up. It's got 92k miles on it...not exactly confidence-inspiring.

Love the words of hope for future folks. These coaches are crack though. I was minding my own business and i stumbled on to a mostly original 1985 Revcon King 33', i tried to talk myself out of it, for days. Guess what, against all sense. It is coming home with me. Do i need it, no. But looking at it everyday brings a smile to my face. thanks.

When our GMC is finally done we'll just travel across the USA from hotel to hotel! It's just a Taller Toronado! It's the sheer comfort and cool factor that counts.

You do not "buy" a GMC Motorhome, you adopt them
