    Just wanted to add that thanks to this video I had nearly $900 taken off my repair bill from the local Honda dealer. My 2007 CRV went in with the apparent clutch problem. they wanted $1100 to fix it and did not mention a recall. I looked it up and found this video. Called back and the dealer admitted there is an "open recall" but said my car didn't qualify because it is (barely) older than 7 years. I got mad and called back a bunch of times, then got ignored the rest of the week and Monday. So they had my car from Wednesday to Monday with no response to me. They finally called back Tuesday and Honda is going to pay 85% of the bill. It pays to be a pain in the ass and it pays to do some research! thanks to whoever made this video.

      Now this is the reason I made this video, To help others save money!
      It is good that your dealer finally gave in, as they know this is a design issue, and they did the right thing.

    FYI I own a 2008 CRV with only 63,000 miles and the ac clutch just went out. My boyfriend found this post for me and I asked my local dealership about it. Well I just fell out of the 7 yr or 100,000 whichever came first warranty extension. (yes not a recall) I was ready to call corporate myself to deal with later but the service manager at Dale Sharp Honda (Topeka, KS) did it on my behalf and he was able to get Honda to cover 70% of the repair cost. Which the tech explained to me I got the better end of the deal vs. if it was under warranty due to what my cost would have been. I'm one happy camper is all I can say and thank you for posting this on TH-cam. (and thank you Dale Sharp Honda!!##)

      Yes, I am glad this helped and again, this is an older video now, most warranty extensions would be over by this point. I am happy you have air again.

    RECALLS are only for safety issues. This is not a safety issue; and therefore, is not covered by Honda. I called the national office to confirm since my 2005 CRV had this issue. Thought this update might help.

    I have a 2009 CRV EX-L with 90:000 miles.. The AC was blowing warm air. I remember the Honda Letter specifying the problems and extending the warranty period. When I called the Honda dealership, they wanted to charge $330 for a “diagnostic” test, which was more than half the cost of a new compressor. I asked “why?” Since the Honda Letter already identified the specific problems, that I was experiencing. They said “that’s our policy!” Seems like typical dealer BS to me. I had a local independent shop replace the compressor instead, at a reasonable cost.

    Ours just went out in our 2008 honda cr-v ex-l. First time I called Honda, a service manager said we're 3 months out from the coverage, and despite us being under 100K miles, they won't cover any of it... but, what was covered is the air conditioning coil and clutch, which costs $300-400 to fix. I called again to get a firm quote, and they said it would be about $1200, and that our car wasn't even part of the covered models.

    Does this RECALL accepted in DUBAI in 2020?...I have HONDA CRV 2007 facing problems with AC compressor and clutch, Compressor is not starting immediately after switching on the car , after 5-10 min of drive it’s starting and working fine, and moreover when I make a Full wash at service center ( inside the bonnet and under the car) the AC compressor clutch is switching ON & Off continuously till the water is dried completely till 3-4 days... took that to local mechanics but unable to figure out the problem..

    I've got an 09'. Just had mine fixed in a local shop today. 130k for mileage. Replaced compressor, condenser evacuated and recharged for $800. I hadn't seen this video but wouldn't have helped anyway as I'm past both 7 years and 100k. A lot of money but not as bad as people being gouged by the dealers. I asked about the life expectancy of the replacement and he said he does them all the time and doesn't have anyone come back. He installs aftermarket stuff not OEM. He also said he always does the condenser with compressor change. The condenser is rejecting all the absorbed heat and an old compromised condenser will kill the new compressor if not changed. Mine was bowed from the previous owner bottoming out on something so might have added to the problem. As someone with asthma who considers AC a necessity I would have seriously considered not buying this car had I known of the existing issues. Hopefully the replacement will last.

      Phillip Brock I have the same year and it just did the same thing. I took it to a local mechanic--they said the compressor was blown and it would be over $800 to replace. I'm thinking best to take it to Honda and argue the point.

    • @pbrock1985
      @pbrock1985 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update. Took it to Honda, I printed up the issues and warranty extension paperwork that I found on google, they said that it didnt apply, wouldnt give details but said the compressor broke, not the clutch... I still call B.S and argued my point, no avail, charged me $1250. Got it fixed but damn! I cant believe they wouldnt take ownership and just take care of it, but they wont. I called American Honda too. No luck.

      Phillip Brock It's pitiful the way Honda is dealing with this. We have a 2007 CRV as well with 148K miles. Compressor went out a few months ago. Replaced it with an after market compressor in the hopes it won't happen again. Only ended up spending $400. Have owned countless Honda products and have always been happy up until now.

    I have a 2008 Honda CR-V with 83K miles and the A/C stopped working a few days ago. I found this video so I called the dealership to ask about it. It is not a recall on the parts but simply an extended warranty which applies to the A/C clutch and coil. The warranty is good for 7yr/100,000 miles so if you have an 07' with less than 100K miles this is your last year to get it replaced for free. I read some disturbing stories that others had them replaced and within 6 months they were dead again. I've scheduled the replacement for tomorrow (very quick to get me in), lets just hope to hell it lasts...

      @@dagrote1sorry to hear that. Are you using new ac compressor or rebuilt? What brand? For most people, one or two replacement of the AC compressor should be enough for the life of the vehicle. About 300-400k miles

    • @dagrote1
      @dagrote1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hellagrant Apparently with this model and make, the compressor sprays shards and oil when it fails and takes down the entire system. It's called "Black Death," and there are even after market kits specifically for it, it's so common. My CRV is 2006. It's all over the Internet.

  • @DarkStarAZ

    Turns out the 2003 uses the same AC system as a Honda Civic. Sure that flies in Minnesota or somewhere, but in Arizona, not so much.
    My Honda dealer recently put in a charge of Arctic Blast in my compressor just a month ago, which basically killed it, and my compressor and clutch blew up yet again.

    For 2002-2006 crv replace the compressor with a piston type one. There is a drop in replacement just need to add a longer serpentine belt because the inclination of the new conpressor need more belt... the stock honda element serpentine belt work perfect. If your actual compressor blow up replace the condensor too. Install 'thedeslogger' (just an extra protection but not required) from 4seasson and you will have a tong time trouble free A/C system.

      From what I can tell the clutch isn't engaging. So tomorrow I'm going to rule out the relay and if it's not that guess I gotta order the parts and do it myself. Looks like a pretty small job as outlined in the tsb.

    I think I’m going to AC delete it with a shorter belt, I don’t use the Ac anyway. And my car has 132,000 miles, pretty sure they won’t fix mine, I’d have to pay for it. Plus it’s giving me bad starter issues, other than that the Engine runs strong, not a bad 5speed automatic transmission

      Heather M It's just old at this point. Bound to happen. No recourse of action. If you want to spend about 1500. It can be fixed but not worth it. I would trade the car and just put some cool air in it and sell it. Still low miles for the year but air can be important.

      I am making payments on it still. so have no choice but to either fix it or not. I have other issues with it. so may have to make the choice depending on if 'black death' has occurred.

      Heather M ah Black Death. The clutch will soon disintegrate. If you are stuck with it for a while just have them fix everything. It is the labor that is expensive otherwise it may not last if you just fix the air conditioner clutch. Have them fix it and it will make it for a while.

    Local Honda Dealer in Vestal NY BS'ed us into buying a used control board and then after the board went in they replaced the compressor, clutch and other parts. This was on a 2007 CRV. I also have a 2005 and I'm waiting for it to blow. I sent a letter to Honda complaining. I got 1 call back from them and I've been trying to reach them ever since. I'm sorry I ever got into Hondas and these will be the last. It also doesn't help when Miller Honda, the money grubbers are the only deal in town. Honda knows they have a problem but could care less about customer satisfaction. This isn't a recall but there is a Service Bulletin on it. Dealer wont tell you unless the part fails and it's only up to a certain mileage. Honda is not an honorable company nor is the dealer in Vestal.

    I have a 2008 with about 88,000 miles on it. I just bought it at 86,000 from a private seller, single owner. I called both my mechanic and the local Honda dealer. They said there is no recall for my VIN number. Lady at the dealer said she wished there was, bc they get paid either from Honda or me and it doesn't make a difference to them. Why would some have recall and some not, when the unit is the same?

      Taryn Jenkins This is more of a service advisory note.....as they do not want to cover the costs for this poor design. Honda has agreed that this is a poor design and was covered under our honda dealer. Of course this will occur again due to the location of the compressor, but this is a wide-spread problem with the year models mentioned above.

I called the Honda 800 number and talked with customer service and they told me my car is old and they feel like the car has serviced my needs well. I had paid for the 100 thousand warranty and the first repair was paid under this warranty. Now with the 170,000 miles, the air conditioner has gone out again.So much for thinking that the Honda cars will give you over 200,000 miles. I feel like this this vehicle is no longer reliable. Now I have to think about getting a new car, but will I get another Honda. I don't think so.

    The claim made by broomballusba12 concerning a recall is simply not true. This video needs to be edited and aligned with actual recall bulletins. Although most would agree that Honda should be obligated to do so, the fact of the matter is that they have not taken any action at this time.

    My compressor went out almost 2 years ago so I had it fixed by my regular mechanic, not knowing about this issue. The compressor is acting up again so I took it to a dealership who said that the work would be covered under warranty...until they realized that I had already had it replaced somewhere else. Now I am waiting on a response from the dealership to see if they will cover these new repairs. Do you have any advice in regards to either getting a reimbursement of some sort for my original repairs or forcing Honda to cover these current repairs?

    • @broomballusba12
      @broomballusba12  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stepha Zamora unfortunately not.....in many cases, if you do not allow the mfg to have an opportunity to fix the problem or aid in a solution, then they will always find a way out. It is always best to have the dealer assess the problem, and fix some items, but there are many other options available. I am sorry to hear that the mechanic did not solve your problem, as this was not his fault, it is poorly engineered.
      If you are persistent, the dealer may help, but I would not expect it to be done for free. Possibly a discount, but it would be based on the dealers discretion.
      Good luck, it is hot out there these days, and we all need cool air.

    My 2008 CR-V with 83K miles and 7 years, 6 months got the AC problem 2 weeks back. Dealer confirmed it is the #12-072 issue but since I am 6 months over 7 yrs, he placed a call to Honda USA to check eligibility. Seems they will cover 50% of cost only since I am over 7 yrs but within 100k miles. That would be abt $250-$275 from my pocket.. Do you think its a good deal to accept or should I try talking to Honda directly by myself? Has anyone had luck in such a case talking to Honda USA for 100% coverage? Thanks.

      ggowrish12 anything is usually better than what most people have been offered. I would urge to have them completely cover, BUT, if you only have to pay out $250.00 after owning it for seven years, consider the alternative, they could easily so no to any help and could costs up to $1400.00 . Just my 2 cents.

It was our mechanic, who told them of the on going issue and told them, not to replace it, because there was a class action lawsuit. I am so sorry I misspoke, the words used were "recall" when I pressed I was told, well not actually a recall, a class action lawsuit. I apologize for the mis information! My a/c went out on my 2008 Crv on 6/14/15, under 56,000 on the car. Same thing happened to my daughter and her 2008 Civic, last year in Phoenix. My husband called the dealership and asked if this was covered under warranty. He exlained that he read on line, that this was a common problem and was told it was covered under a warranty. Of course they wanted to charger us $129 to bring it in to check to see what the problem was, which we said no. They later said, after my husband asked them over and over and over, if it was covered and they said no. We took it to our normal mechanic, who is a good friend, and he fixed the clutch for us. $762. Makes me sick that is is happeniing when the car has less that 56,000 miles

By the way the young consultant who waited on me actually told me about the A/C compressor clutch Warranty Extension Campaign after he learned about the AC problem, so he said that he can have the AC recharged as I asked originally with $115 or have it checked out with $115, thank goodness, I chose the later and not have to pay for it!!

I reckon if you get aftermarket part, and less warranty, and DIY its cheaper. Lol.... Maybe a $250 job for you ... Trying to get my dealer to cover it under the "I drove it for 5 days can you cut me some slack" LAW. HE offered split the difference. I pay for part he covers labor. I said OK. I just got back from a dealer and I was about to buy a 2008 crv exl but on the test drive the AC didn't work! I told the salesman and he said they would charge it and check the brakes (because they were squealing) and he would call. me when it's ready for another test drive.. lol Now I know the AC didn't need charged and it's probably out completely! I can't wait for the salesman to call me back!

      Please avoid the purchase unless they fix the compressor. This is a well known problem with Honda.

      Tammy Warren not only the AC ,all 2008 crv's have another problem wich is the steering rack and pinion it's very expensive to fix & there is no recall, Honda refuse to take responsibility for.

      I didn't buy it because of all the complaints I read before I went back. They look nice but until they get their parts to stop failing I'm steering clear of them!

    Just have my 2009 CRV AC fixed with my honda dealership, they installed a new clutch, coil, new relay assy., and were been done under THE WARRENTY EXTENSION CAMPAIGN #12-072 without charge.
    They did charge me $129.95 to recharge AC system, I was told that when they disconnect the clutch from compressor and others, the R134 will be lost, so clean up the line and recharge AC are needed, I hope they're not pulling my legs!!

    • @broomballusba12
      @broomballusba12  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grace Wang That is a true statement that the R134 will be lost once the disconnect the lines. $129.95 is a small price to pay for the repair though considering the time and money others have paid. Ours was done at no costs.

      In my state, WI, it is illegal NOT to reclaim the refrigerant and repump it back into the system during repairs as stated by my mechanic.

      Most states shops have to be certified by EPA, federal law to capture the Freon. Up to 1000$ fine. Just like the catalytic converters must all be replaced $5000 fine per cat.

    The fellow at our dealer checked the VIN on my 2008 and explained there's no recall on _my_ car, but that had my car been built in a different plant, a faulty A/C compressor recall may have applied.

    • @broomballusba12
      @broomballusba12  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Nilsen sounds like they are trying to shift the blame.....it is more of an advisory note than a recall due to the large issues of problems. It is located in a very bad location, and regardless of the plant it may have come from, they all use the same components. Be persistent and they should take care of this from the honda dealer where purchased.

      Well, I wasn't given an inch of room to complain with the dealership. It was the A/C compressor and the dealership put me in contact with Honda America. I explained my situation to Honda America - I was just a month out of my 7 year warranty on this part and well under 100,000 miles. They gave me no gruff about where my vehicle was built, no gruff at all. They opened a case and within the day elected to cover most of repair!!! The dealership hustled to finish so we'll be taking our weekend trip out of town with A/C. Ah, the comforts and hassles of modern living.

    Ok so I took my 2007 CRV to honda, even found and printed the extension campaign #12-072 off google. Honda America was more than happy to Not help, and same with Arrowhead Honda because I was over my milage. These ac compressors fails due to poor design, Honda needs to take ownership and stop charging us to fix their mistake! Cost me over $1200.

    listen guy....please do your research before posting such a video...there is no recall for that issue it is a warranty extension only....the warranty extension is in place to cover vehicles that may have excessive wear on the a/c compressor clutch assembly causing it to have trouble engaging properly. not all vehicles in this model-year ranch are affected...the a/c control relay for the compressor clutch can often be the cause of this problem, or even the even a system leak will also cause the a/c to stop operating. by delivering fragmented advice, the only thing your accomplishing is causing friction and hard feelings between a customer and a dealership in the case that a customer arrives at a dealership thinking that their repairs are free and the issue is caused by a part other than the part covered under the extension.

    • @broomballusba12
      @broomballusba12  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a service advisory as noted in the title. This video is also 2 years old which I am pretty sure does not apply any longer for this advisory. I no longer own this vehicle as the dealership repairs also failed after 18 months. Regardless of the friction this may cause between dealership and customer, I can assure you that there is very little one can say except that this is a poor design flaw. A reputable dealer stands behind his product and a customer gains some respect for a dealer as to the extent of the service provided. Recalls are expensive and embarrassing, where a service advisory is basically a warranty extension because they know a flaw exists but without safety issues to ones life. Thank you for taking the time to post your reply.

      Who cares if it was a recall or a warranty extension?
      The fact is the AC design sucks, the compressors are blowing up, and they are very expensive to replace.

    i have a 2006 Honda Civic(8th gen) known issue with these aswell. Called corporate they werent able to help at all. this is a known issue. honda is holding out on us due to the recall on the air bags and others. this is an easy fix but hard to get to on my 8th gen. i live in texas where its 100°F almost everyday. this is a weak point of the car and honda wont do the right thing and fix it. i have owned a honda my entire life. (3) this made me so mad i will never buy another honda! great cars but honda is lying and will not take self initiative knowing its a manufacturers defect. going nissan or toyota. done with honda forever! dishonesty is bullshit! i was told by dealshipships and other mechanics i needed a new compressor and was going to run me $1200! its the ac clutch that is all! these idiots couldnt diagnose the real problem. they just want you to pay up! it will fix the problem but only until the clutch gets worn over time because of heat again!
