"If your parents are forcing you to go to college because it makes them feel good and you have to take on debt, it's time to stand up and have that conversation" right on brother!
No parent says " Go to school for debt". All parents want is for their child to establish their independence and financial security. You can achieve success without a degree 100%, but from my experience, it is that much harder without a degree of some sort.
Hey random person scrolling through the comments. I just want to say: have a great day or night! Remember you are loved and you have a purpose in this world. Always stay positive and never give up in life and on your goals!
So many people are not really understanding the message from Gary and Arod. You need to know yourself more than anything. College isn’t for everyone, and neither is entrepreneurship. You need to know what you’re good at, or go find out what you’re good at. Some people in college might be better suited for a trade job, and will be better off in the long run being a welder. Some people in trades might be better at an office job, as an IT specialist. One requires a degree, one doesn’t, but you need to know what you’re good at, or what you like and how you can get to that job.
gary vee is full of shit. so am i except if you pay me i will cut the shit... gary wont. he will shit you until your broke. i have other plans in mind then scaling this information. anyways point is if you pay me some big dough i will teach you how to become gary vee starting with absolutely 0$ and making about $200-$500 your first month then the sky's the limit from there. all of the gurus I MEAN ALL OF THEM ... thjey are all just keeping 1 core secret from you. google has made it extremely unprofitable to giver it away and it actually feels like your giving away all hope left at a successful career when you give it away. thats why nobody does. but i have many times and regret every one of them. but if you paid i would do it again. tbh it should have been obvious. look at the tens of thousands perhaps hundreds of thousands of websites and sellers there are out there that sell all this stuff... likes, comments, retweets, shares, reactions, poll votes, live stream views, connections, you name it its out there being sold by who though? how are they able to produce such massive quantities and who are they? always nameless and always faceless. how come there are all these sellers who sell millions of subs but nolt a single one has a youtube channel with 100k subs??? hmmmm? WAKE UP NOW!!! learn how they are doing that shit. become one of them. then you will be way closer to your goal then you ever will otherwise not even if you keep making Gary vee rich forever and shovel that toxic nonsense into your brain every day.
Most kids don’t know themselves enough to decide if they need to waste the money! I wish college could start after 3-5 years after high school! Work in a small business and learn the ropes, then decide if you want to learn liberal arts!!
Starting 3-5 years later is an amazing idea, however I honestly think you shouldn’t go to uni or college I have a uni degree a lot of debt and graduated early, I’m never going back lol I’m not falling for more debt
definitely wait a few years to mature..a friend of mine did that had a job in a supermarket. good wage gave him money had fun then went to college. now hes a nurse and loves his job. he wouldn't have picked nursing as a teenager!!
As someone who’s 34 and only went to college because my parents and society told me it’s what I should do, don’t do it because of that. I started college at 16 and had no clue what I wanted in life. College ended up just being a waste of both time and money because it wasn’t for me and I did it for other people or because I didn’t want to be judged negatively. Live for you not for others.
CharlieHorsePaintball I work in finance full time and pursued my passion in gaming via uploading content on this channel that I’m commenting from. College didn’t help me 1% in either of the things I do. College is great for some people but it’s not for every single person which is what they tried to tell my generation back in the early 2000s.
Engineering degree and an MBA...the BEST ROI I've ever made! Debt paid by me! The education was (and still is) a great asset in my own business. Agree... that college isn't for everyone but,...it helped this kid from the hood escape "food stamps".
So true. I like that Gary doesn't rule out higher education completely, but instead raises the topic of self-awareness - go to college IF YOU NEED TO, like you for example (congrats btw). Some entrepreneurs just rubbish University completely - "college is a scam" -Tai Lopez....
Victor Antonio That’s the difference between a useful degree and a useless one. People are really going to UCLA right now to major in Liberal Arts or Chicano Studies. Like damn. They’re expecting a good paying career out of it too. I’m 20 in direct to home sales barely learning still and I already will make more than what they’ll make 4 years from now in their career.
i think this example is a clear one though, which isn’t the case for everyone. you are essentially a lawyer. your degree will pay well ie engineering, and has good prospects. and your MBA on top of that. yes. everyone will make money back if they invest it like that, but consider it with the depth it really has and not the binary that is the path you chose. what if i want to major in communications? or art? is it worth it then? what if i am at a worse school than you? what if i physically just can’t stand college? how would i go about doing this lots of education + degree = good job. like you obviously. but some don’t want to be lawyers or engineers, and thus the path and ROI of college is very different. for someone like you, i’m sure it was well returned. just something to consider, which is why there is no right or wrong definitive answer on whether to go or not.
Go to uni if you're going there to become something. Don't park yourself in uni with no idea about your future because that's what you're supposed to do. That's the difference, planning.
It's amazing how badly people comprehend Gary. His VERY FIRST statement is SELF-AWARENESS! Bottom line is, you have to know what your goals there and how to get there. I've dropped out of like 3 colleges, barely have freshman credits but I am self-taught and have a great job. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Know your goals. Map out a plan to get there and don't be afraid to start from the bottom - if you believe in yourself. It's not complicated.
job job job isnt the friggin point to work for yourself? if you work for a paycheck it dont matter how big it is for us entrepreneurs heavily invested its billionaire or bust. ANYBODY can talk there way into a good job just put in enough time and get enough certs and get your linkedin game right with mad endorsements i mean eventually you will get a job and if you can do it then great but i dont want a job i want what is already owed to me and every second that goes by where im not know worldwide for my accomplishments is a second that this planet suffers at the hands of google its captor. i dont make much with my business quite yet but i am the boss at least. i feel if i had partners to follow my instructions i could make us all rich because one man against the system is so hard to succeed im finding. the system starts to oppress you the closer you get to your goal. depending on how much google hates you will determine just how much painful shit you gotta endure before even gaining an inch of progress. it seems impregnable. it may be. im going to find out what happens in the deep, dark, then light, the dark again then a large deep section followed by a darker section, that goes even deeper than that.... deep, dark google web.
@@prestonhudman The point isn't to work for yourself.....The point is to know yourself. Everyone SHOULD NOT work for themselves. They are built for it. I have a brand I am building while I have a day job. So you don't have to tell me what's hard. You're blaming a lot of things except your self (google, lack of partners). Just figure it out.
I cannot believe I finally heard someone who has shared my beliefs. I dropped out of college because I was an entrepreneur since the age of nine and everyone said I should go dropping out was the best thing I could ever do
My wife tried the whole college thing. Tried nursing and psychology, not because she wanted those careers but because she needed to pick something. She only ever wanted to be a hair stylist but didn’t think that job was something to be proud of and felt she needed to go to college. Finally done with the desperation, she decided to go to hair school and now makes bank as one of the best stylists in town and absolutely loves what she does. If I’ve learned anything, there is nothing inherently superior about going to college. If what you strive for requires college education then go for it, if it doesn’t don’t go. It really is as simple as that
This is a message that needs to be spread; not everyone will be an entrepreneur. School will always be needed for certain things. But try not to get into debt to go to school
Lmao at the people saying Garyvee is all talk. The dude inherited a run down wine corner store, used the internet and made a multi-million dollar business from it. Meanwhile, yall use the internet for only entertainment and demeaning others. Its a shame really.
Two things I learned from the short amount of time I’ve been trying to be an independent filmmaker is that you must believe in yourself 100% and never give up
What I like the most about this conversation is that everyone is reacting and responding each other by listening every word. We need more of it instead of having to see one person talk talk talk.
I’m currently in film school and have a part time job. I fully can’t experience and put time into my passion due to school and work. My only days off of work is my school days. I don’t have an ounce of time to have a day to myself where I can go out and film things. I finally decided to drop out and quit my job to fully be able to follow my passion. I’m moving back to my hometown in the next couple weeks. I invested a LOT of money into new film equipment. All I’m saying is, I’m going to hustle and grind nonstop to be successful.
colleges and universities profit off of students. period. ESPECIALLY athletes. ..its the same crap you learn in high school with the exception of your major. college should be free until you dedicate yourself to a major...or at least cost minimized....unless you get a scholarship you're going 4-5 years and walking out with tens of thousands of dollars indebt...and no guarantee of getting a job that would allow you to live and pay off student loans.
I had severe mental health problems during and fresh out of school which meant I couldn't ever see myself carrying on but I took almost a year out to get better but regressed so it was college or a job and I picked job as it made more sense and I'm so glad I did because it's given me the time and finances to really know what I want to do and pay for it all with no debt. Turns out you really can make the best out a horrible situation
This is a good talk! Self awareness is everything. I quit school my junior year of college to go into acting full time BUT I'm thirsty for knowledge! I never was into kegs and parties, so I didn't need to take on 4 years of college debt ( or 6 or 8 with grad school etc) . I had some scholarships to help but had several student loans as well. My first Broadway tour I was blessed to have the money to double down and pay off the 2 and a half years of student loans that I had. Some need the discipline, some don't. I've been a loner for so long I guess people's opinions didn't matter, In my personal choices I do what I want, say what I want, live how I want. But in public I'm quite cleancut, I don't care what people say, EXCEPT, that I was raise in the south, so I'm overly polite in public at times. Years of living in New York has only changed that by a small percentage. Getting stronger in not caring what people think about my opinions is a big deal. in the south youre encourage to fit in, in African families your also encouraged to follow tradition. But I break tradition in everyway. I can't wait to hear Gary's opinions on the Elite college scandal that just started. I'm now working on my happiness as I work on upping my social media game just hired a new editor so my youtube game will increase and I'll have time to write my blogs and put out more meaningful content! Learning how to be really honest on youtube and not worry about being perfect all the time #saycontalks
College is just a credential. A person with drive, intelligence, and a true thirst for success is going to succeed regardless. What the credential does is get you past educational discrimination in order to actually prove yourself in your chosen field.
Without that credential, you inherently cannot enter a great many fields. Engineering, for instance. I defy you to find a self-taught “engineer” who’s passed the exam to become a professional engineer.
,@@jamesharding3459 You're talking about .5% of degrees here. An Engineering degree is more of an asset than a liability, college degree-wise. However, you cannot compare it to a Social Work or a fuckin Acting/Performing Arts degree and going $80k into debt for that useless piece of paper. A degree says nothing but a person's tenacity, determination, and hunger tell you they care way more about their career.
@@rg4517rg Some quick math from Oregon State University (because that's what I have numbers for right now) shows engineering students make up a sizeable 24% of the student body and 21% of graduating degrees. Arts majors make up a bit shy of 9% of graduating degrees. Now, as for tenacity, that's fairly easy to assess from some degrees. I'm an engineering major. That means 16 hour days, 7 days a week. 18 and 20 hour days are normal during busy weeks. Hiring personnel in engineering firms know this, and anyone who graduates with an engineering degree in 4 or 5 years has damn well proved themselves to be highly motivated and tenacious.
@@jamesharding3459 I was agreeing with you on Engineering but the same cannot be said about several other majors. Of course, putting in over 70 hours into your Engineering degree, and getting experience on top of that will likely lead to a great career/return on investment. Common sense starts to diminish once you acquire $65,000 for a bachelor's(+$35,000 for Grad school) in student loan debt for a Psychology degree but then you cannot find a job and now must work somewhere you dislike to pay off debt on a paper you're not going to use.
@@rg4517rg Median first-year salary for a psych major is $60,000 in the US. Try again. Some quick research would indicate that most science or medicine adjacent fields -- the overwhelming majority of college majors -- make, on average, about $12,000 more than the median annual income in the US _in their first year._ Obviously, arts majors are not as marketable as an engineering major. But there is a lot of grey area between those two extremes.
I get excited from hearing the doubters and I agree that that’s so crucial for you to even remotely begin to succeed. I’ve cut out a lot of old friends and people who were no longer serving me and that in and of itself is what is difficult for most to do.
Anger is easy; strength is when you feel deep and put your heart on your sleeve. You are driven from passion, you speak the truth. I truly love your thoughts.
Dont go yo college its a joke seriously college in todays society is not going to work u need to learn how to work on things , and be youre own. Boss because college is kinda getting old.....
People are starving just to make 50K a year. Your legacy is what you kids and family think of you. I just want a stable job that pays decent enough for me to live comfortably. I don’t need to be rich just want enough to buy a house one day.
Just grow your wealth. Best advice I had ever gotten from my rich family members. You have to grow your treasure. And put some money to grow somewhere. If you don’t save you have nothing with you, worthless. I been savings since 20 I’m 26 now . I have a six figure account. You can easily get out of poverty, and attain a 7 figure if you really put in it. And I still have a normal job. Im pretty sure I’m going to retire at 30. By then I will have a quarter million.
If most people invested their hard earned money into cryptocurrencies maybe they would have more than enough to buy a house. It's all about being at the right place at the right time. I grew my wealth that I got from bussing tables at a restaurant for 2 years and I threw it all in crypto in october of 2017. By december of 2017 I was already at $100k+ profits
Your tittle is so Misleading !! he’s not say NOT to go to college , He saying that IF YOU BELIEVE YOU’RE Gifted in the Entrepreneur lane then bypass college & trust in yourself to pursue entrepreneurship!! If otherwise GO TO COLLEGE !!
I’m a huge fan of Gary’s . Honestly , he’s changed MY life .. I do worry about the message sometimes thou . I really wish I finished my degree back in the days . I was 7 subjects short but blew it off to chase my dreams . My dreams didn’t work out and i worked in many a bar , wasting time and I was crazy unhappy .. finishing those 7 subjects would have given me something to fall back on . Also , I just didn’t have all that much going on back then , it’s one of my biggest regrets . I just hope that kids don’t buy into this entrepreneur thing too much . Even Gary just staid it - shits mega hard . Would getting a degree be that bad ? Even if you don’t use it at first , at least it’s there . Be smart kids .. life can be a mafukka - you could find yourself working at some shitty warehouse one day . ✌🏼
Perception is everything, honestly. Also, massive success in business and a college education are not mutually exclusive. There are in fact self-made billionaires who did GRADUATE from college....so at the end, do whatever you want because there is no unanimous right or wrong way
But the problem is that most of us, including me, might not even make it rich in the major we chose to study. The major trend in India is computer science engineering for your undergrad, and then an MBA.... I'm actually doing the exact same thing, I have two years of CSE left, before I go to a b school. But I'm doing an MBA because I want to get into business, and I'm not really good with people right now, which I can learn at a b school.
To me, its a no brainer if I lived in the USA. people keep using that line of "dont get 100k in debt" (no shit). If college is free or couple of hundreds, then its a great experience to meet experts in your field and people who have similar career intersts as you.
I think a lot kids want to skip college but feel like they might miss out on life experiences if they skip it. College is kinda seen as necessary to have fun in life which is kinda true because when else are you gonna love 4 years just around people your age.
What?!? That's the problem. You are paying $40,000 per year× 4 years to have fun and play around with people your own age to get the experience of college, just to say you had been around other people your own age. This is why the rich stay Rich and the poor and middle class are playing around doing nothing productive with their time. College is nothing but a big debt.
I graduated from college in the last 12 months and I highly recommend that most young people don't go to college. The only instances when I think it is worthwhile is when someone has a specific career that requires that (ie being a physician, a nurse, an architect, a lawyer, etc). Let's take a look at how some Scandinavian countries encourage their younger people - to explore and discover themselves first then come back to school if that's the right fit for them. Here in the United States, unless school isn't expensive, I believe it is often not worth the mental, financial, and life impact price.
You’re right in that you do need to discover what you want to do before pursuing a college degree as certain professions require them. If you want to pursue entrepreneurship and do not want to work for anyone, it’s absolutely not necessary.
I was braim washed as a kid to go to college, I was also told in college that I will be getting a good job with a good salary but that it was the total opposite.
I went to college and grad school in my late 30's after running a successful business. Why? Because it was something I wanted to do and it made me happy. There should be no other reason to go to college for most. I wasn't geared for college at 18, I went into the military, saved my money and when I got out I went into business for myself.
BRO thank you for saying this loud and proud man Gary V, I went to college, and it was WRONG for me. I was considered very smart, so I was strongly encouraged to take on debt and scholarships and go to college. I almost killed myself no lie. And it wasn't for lack of ability, but I was working full time trying to keep up with bills and pay loans down WHILE in school, AND I wanted to start a business but didn't have time. I burned ALL my candles at both ends... If i had instead started my businesses, and just done that full time, I'd be wealthy now. I TOTALLY know this. There are people who SHOULD by all means go to college! a lot of them! But I shouldn't have. THANK you Gary, for telling people this.
Always flipped things for money and learned more about entrepreneurship last year with drop shipping to get my feet wet, now I’m going all in real estate wholesaling but my parents think I’m wasting time. It’s sad but I’m grinding for that first deal to show them it’s real
That's what the FUCK IS UP. Keep crushing bros. They will shit on you now, but when you come out and fuckin win, I mean win HARD, they will forever bow down to you, king.
Jacob De Leon for drop shipping I got Arie schersons course early on when it was cheaper, it is honestly worth it because he shows you head on everything and the Facebook group helps as well. The only reason why I stopped is because the amount of money you need to spend on ads is more than I can afford with my bills. So when I get money from real estate I plan to open another store again and apply what I know. I made money and got consistent with sales but lost a lot as well. For whole sailing I plan to do bandit signs around the freeway of my area and driving for dollars. Even plan to skip trace absentee owners and probates. I’m currently reassuring myself with info and about to buy a script to do it virtually.
Awesome man, just get your feet wet and try to find a mentor in real estate. Even if you get little money from it you will be able to have some hands on experience. Divorces records are good because they always will need a sale and usually you can give a cash offer before they get a realtor. I was looking at good videos on how to grow your own instagram page for free on whatever brand and there’s a couple of ways to get a big page in just a few short days. Whatever you do don’t give up bro. That’s the secret sauce in every book on making money. You can always change something up a little and have a totally different result
6:08 Happiness needs to be the goal, not being rich This is the most important line in the whole video. Too many people that have no business being entrepreneurs are going into entrepreneurship because they see the success of others. Instead, they should be focusing on what they are passionate about. When you do what you love, you don’t mind failing and picking yourself back up to keep going. This includes entrepreneurship, but it can also cover many other career paths.
I love Gary Vanyerchuk!!! He always speaks his truth and always gives great advice!!! Not only does the things he says is great but he really knows how resonate a whole lot with a lot of people on a whole lot of subjects!!! He always speaks real value!!! 💯💪🏽🔥🏆🌟💫😍💖

Totally right, the one thing not taught in school actually neglected by schools is teaching smart/successful students how to deal with failure and rebound
Right. Failure is something people are scared of. People who are perfectionists and haven't experienced real challenges and struggles are thrown off if they experience failure for the first time.
Michael Robb Kanye is definitely a role model. If any kid told me he had dreams of becoming a premiere producer, dedicating all his time to the craft, becoming a rapper when everyone doubted him, starting a clothing line when everyone in the clothing industry told him not too and then starting a $4 billion dollar clothing line and becoming a top-tier artist of his generation w/ a rich/hot wife...id tell him “Get ready for a lot of young men to look up to that story”
Michael Robb “Sold his soul” has no factual basis. It’s just cool to say. That’s a subjective argument. How did he sell his soul? Because he didn’t stay the same person forever? Because he’s creative and open minded? Because he has different opinions than you? Cmon bro.
@@mgm8075 Have you seen the way he has been acting? Have you seen him throwing up those symbols? Its even in his songs him and many music artists have videos like the Weeknd were they basically say they sold out.

I used to work for NYU in their bursar financial office... The same message I would give to every student who was iffy, had no idea, what they wanted, or was the first person in their family to go to college. I had to temper the expectations... if you aren't ready to take on .. at least in nyu's case anywhere between 120-220-k worth of debt (yeah 4 years plus dorms)... i would tell them bye... go to a junior college, don't take on that financial burden...but if you got your issh together, going to law school or business school. then proceed cautiously be smart but go for it.. If you are going to school for "liberal arts" "social work" anything like that that you are going to punch in a clock 9-5 or longer?? DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.. all of these colleges are the same... the name is all you are paying for.. be smart.. limit your liabilities... go study real estate, go open an online business.. its not worth it.. College is not for everyone and neither is the financial trap that comes with it.. In no other walk of life will you ever be told... hey start in the negative.. and then work your way out of it with zero guarantees. You've got to know who you are, stop looking at your instagram posts, stop living in the digital lie.. wake up find your passion, and only do that.. whether it makes you money or not.. You cannot be studying to be a biologist when your passion is teaching... DO WHAT YOU LOVE, and fight against peoples expectations of you... only live for you.. hardest thing you will ever learn in your life... ignore the family.. don't do shit they want you to do, you are going to be miserable regardless of the money you make.. Money is only a tool.. your happiness is a choice.. Life isn't 9-5 , house, marriage, kids, a couple cars... UNLESS that is the life you desire... Be bold be unafraid, don't be afraid to fail!!!

The end has a lot to do with the beginning for me. "...I'm thinking second-time Entrepreneurs." But, in order to be a second-time entrepreneur you need self awareness. In light of everything else Gary said, in my opinion this epitomizes the saying, "When life knocks you down, you either get back up, brush the dirt off and get going. Or, you stay down." When we're in the dumps, we have two choices: face our pain, learn from it and our experience, analyze and reflect on it as well as our circumstances and how we got there, all in to adapt, change and use our new-and-improved approach for our interpersonal and professional benefit. The other option: take on shame, resent, bitterness, unhappiness, depression, self-doubt, etc. etc. etc. Self awareness is what gets us through the failures in order to overcome all of the negative latter described above and experience the former positives stated above. This is all my personal experience, as I saved $42,000 working a "job," left, started my own business, and now have $35,000 in credit card debt because I didn't have parents or resources to invest in the equipment, software and other means to run the business. I had to do it all on my own. I'm in a terrible spot now. The business was profitable, but it was a failure in that I couldn't live off the income, and the debt was too high and the time requires wasn't efficient to allow working all the odd jobs, side hustles and humiliating opportunities to make money while growing it any longer. I'm now faced with the humility of looking for jobs in the workforce going to work for someone else. I have to "eat shit" again now in the short term in order to prepare myself for the next "at bat" for an innovative idea I have in fitness or sales that I plan to begin working toward a patent on once I find a job. "If only" I knew a partner in the fitness community with access to equipment manufacturing." Knowing you're not a failure. Knowing what you would do differently. Knowing you had more courage than those who may look down on you but aren't living a life worth telling a story about... that's the self awareness that bestows a level of confidence and pride (and humility to keep ego at bay in the face of that confidence and pride) in order to allow you, I believe, to pick yourself up, scrape the dirt off, and build again. I say don't compare yourself as one of the 99.9% of entrepreneurs that fail to the .01% that have made it. I say compare yourself to the 99% of people who, as Gary says, got out of college, got a job, and see the lie of using their income to continue to upgrade to junk like the new iPhone Xs that Apple arrogantly charges $1000 for. (For the first time, I still haven't upgraded since the iPhone 6s plus because it still works and gets the job done.) What also keeps me going is something I heard that is a motivator successful people who have build a business understand and that others don't: "You don't start a business out of greed or the pursuit of money. You do it for the pursuit of freedom."
Arturo Hernandez has he ever tried to sell anything smart guy? Find me a video where he’s said buy my product then run your mouth man. At least he’s doing something for the world what you doing?
I agree with knowing what you want first in life (end) and work backward from it (planning). That is management 101. I agree also that if you want a job, go to college.
Trade school can and might be better for some ppl. Get a job where ppl have to depend on you. Most ppl who own homes do not want to take the time out to fix something that is broken. What do we do? Call whatever company we need to call to come fix the problem. Such as plumbing, AC, painters, etc. God bless everyone, hope things work out with your situation. 2019 Year of the good Guys/ support one another/ spread ❤️ not hate ✊🏿✌️❤️
They need to stop separating trade schools from regular universities. I have many friends who *should've* gone into trades but chose to go to a University for a 4-year degree that didn't get them a job because they didn't want to miss out on the social aspect. Why create a system that separates the two?
Like Robert Kiyosaki said "You really get to know yourself when you have nothing". Everyone can say "Im gonna work hard no matter what happens", but like gary said, when you truly get punched in the face, that's when you know if you have the strength and courage to move on and keep fighting. I can say to myself that I will make it no matter what, but I don't know that yet. Start setting goals once you fail and you know what the game is like.
College is definitely important to possibly getting your foot in the door of an industry are you looking to get into. I also agree with Gary in that you just can't take on unlimited debt to pay for it. Getting a job is more so about making money in that your business model is you. Now you can just spend more money than you can ever possibly make and say that was a good decision. Having said that there are lots of colleges you can go to on the cheap and yes if your parents are willing to pay for it then take classes that way. However if you have the idea and the know-how to make money and just go out there and do it already.
College is needed for people who are pursuing the sciences (Medicine, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or any "REAL" science). Its a waste for people who are pursuing business and other bs majors like the foreign languages.
@@tyler_c4282 You can still get a job with a mathematics degree or engineering since accounting and finance revolves around math. Just have to be taught a course on macro econ and micro econ. Some of it can be self taught if you put the effort and time.
@@krishanubhattacharjee316 If you are doing things for the money, don't waste your time in college. That where you will lose tons and end up in debt. If you are going to college for educational purposes which is what I am doing, then going to college is the right decision.
@@LeshVAuto Business is a science. Period. No fortune 500 company is going to hire a high school graduate to be calling the shots. That's why people with a Business background and/or MBAs have a lot of drawing power when it comes to salaries in the corporate sector. Comparatively, entrepreneurship is a risky affair. We all know a lot of people who have failed miserably at running their own businesses. So yes, it is absolutely the correct decision to go to college if you want to make reliable money without a lot of risk.
@@krishanubhattacharjee316 Well if you want to work for a Fortune 500 company, thats your choice and your life. Sure there are stats on how the business are running, but you don't even know where the market is heading. Market fluctuates at different times and seasons. Good thing the DOW is up. Also, Business is a science?! That has got to be the biggest joke I have ever heard in my life. Tell me, does your "science" incorporate the laws of nature, physics, chem? Also, speaking of risk, people pursing medical degrees are taking more of the risk due to high amounts of debt, $100k-400k, burned out from working long shifts, less sleep, etc. So your idea of risk is completely different from real life. The difference between the risks in real science and the business is that business science risk you can lose the money and get it back at any time. All comes down to the market and money management. The real science risks I am studying (engineering) is life or death. I study the hardest topics that make you think twice about how precious human life is.

I used to teach accounting, one of the driest subjects ever, and I understood early on that college is not for everyone. I used to tell a lot of students to either change their major or drop the course because I can tell it is not for me, just like being a mechanic or an electrician is not for me. I used to be a soldier and I loved it more than anything. Gary V is right about being sold. I was sold on the big college thing and I do not regret it. I love college despite being overpriced and useless at times. There is a time for everything.
I tried college at 19, but was still into the girls and staying fresh, had no idea what I wanted to be got into the carpenter trade at 23 and been in the union over a decade. Making great money and no college debt. My advice pick a trade, stick to it and take it anywhere and everywhere
I’ve heard self-awareness is a type of intelligence. Intra-personal (as apposed to interpersonal). Developing whatever level of self-awareness you naturally possess is probably a good thing. Gotta feel a little sorry for those on the low end of intra-personal aptitude then if that means they might not ever realize what’s best for themselves.
18 years old and graduated high school in June 2021. Was in community college for a couple weeks and withdrew from all my classes because I was failing all of them pretty terribly. The biggest takeaway for me what the idea that entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. I see a lot of people look at entrepreneurship as a means of getting rich but that doesn’t mean you can’t gain great financial security AND THEN SOME through the normal role of employment.

You summed it up perfectly.

i think this example is a clear one though, which isn’t the case for everyone. you are essentially a lawyer. your degree will pay well ie engineering, and has good prospects. and your MBA on top of that. yes. everyone will make money back if they invest it like that, but consider it with the depth it really has and not the binary that is the path you chose. what if i want to major in communications? or art? is it worth it then? what if i am at a worse school than you? what if i physically just can’t stand college? how would i go about doing this lots of education + degree = good job. like you obviously. but some don’t want to be lawyers or engineers, and thus the path and ROI of college is very different. for someone like you, i’m sure it was well returned. just something to consider, which is why there is no right or wrong definitive answer on whether to go or not.

Try again.
Some quick research would indicate that most science or medicine adjacent fields -- the overwhelming majority of college majors -- make, on average, about $12,000 more than the median annual income in the US _in their first year._
Obviously, arts majors are not as marketable as an engineering major. But there is a lot of grey area between those two extremes.

“Figure out what you want in life AND WORK BACKWARDS” working on that
It's amazing how one video turned my perception of Gary around completely. I'm 1000000% aligned with him on this.
Did the military help you a lot?
Self awareness is the key here. It's honestly a superpower
Richie Kongwang agreed 🤝 self awareness is key 🔑

Always flipped things for money and learned more about entrepreneurship last year with drop shipping to get my feet wet, now I’m going all in real estate wholesaling but my parents think I’m wasting time. It’s sad but I’m grinding for that first deal to show them it’s real
I’m in a similar boat brotha, keep grinding and show them you got what it takes 💪🏽
Jacob De Leon I had a general store and went for trendy things cause it was easiest to learn Facebook ads with
Awesome man, just get your feet wet and try to find a mentor in real estate.
6:08 Happiness needs to be the goal, not being rich
This is the most important line in the whole video.

Totally right, the one thing not taught in school actually neglected by schools is teaching smart/successful students how to deal with failure and rebound
Right. Failure is something people are scared of. People who are perfectionists and haven't experienced real challenges and struggles are thrown off if they experience failure for the first time.

Kanye isn't exactly a role model but he speaks truth.
Michael Robb
Kanye is definitely a role model.
@@mgm8075 He had to sell his soul like many others. What is it for a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?
Michael Robb
“Sold his soul” has no factual basis.

"If only" I knew a partner in the fitness community with access to equipment manufacturing."
Knowing you're not a failure.
(For the first time, I still haven't upgraded since the iPhone 6s plus because it still works and gets the job done.)
What also keeps me going is something I heard that is a motivator successful people who have build a business understand and that others don't: "You don't start a business out of greed or the pursuit of money. You do it for the pursuit of freedom."
Kudos to A-Rod he is a very smart guy. Underrated in his knowledge

They need to stop separating trade schools from regular universities. I have many friends who *should've* gone into trades but chose to go to a University for a 4-year degree that didn't get them a job because they didn't want to miss out on the social aspect. Why create a system that separates the two?
lol painting is not a skilled trade, it's a step above a general labourer.
If you don't like to study then why go University in the 1st place if you know your gonna drop out later.
“If she wants to sell blow pops”. Whoa that was close
Yeah he is on to something
No one will ever convince A-Rod College isn't Important

College is needed for people who are pursuing the sciences (Medicine, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or any "REAL" science). Its a waste for people who are pursuing business and other bs majors like the foreign languages.
@@tyler_c4282 You can still get a job with a mathematics degree or engineering since accounting and finance revolves around math. Just have to be taught a course on macro econ and micro econ. Some of it can be self taught if you put the effort and time.
@@LeshVAuto You obviously have no idea about the hike in salaries that an MBA gives you 😂😂
@@krishanubhattacharjee316 If you are doing things for the money, don't waste your time in college.

Happiness is definitely #1. If I earned 7 figures I’d still build my ranch and rescue animals in Colorado because that’s what would make me happy.
"drinking juice from the moon" looooool. Love his honesty.
Gary V, what's the answer to life's greatest questions?
Gary V: "Self-awareness"
I’ve heard self-awareness is a type of intelligence. Intra-personal (as apposed to interpersonal). Developing whatever level of self-awareness you naturally possess is probably a good thing. Gotta feel
a little sorry for those on the low end of intra-personal aptitude then if that means they might not ever realize what’s best for themselves.

@UC1L1yycFoIbPpZOY-Co0jNw any TH-cam video to do with "entrepreneurship" is snake oil. Its generalist rubbish to solely make the creator money.
If you want to succeed and you're not suited to university, and even then a skilled and valuable degree, get in somewhere at an entry level. And just work hard, stay late, Google solutions to your low level problems and simply gain experience. Experience is valuable and underrated by young people, that's what companies and managers want. Running your own company is almost certain to fail, almost no one has the capability to create a profit making company. Just work hard and add value and you will progress, these get rich quick schemes by these snake oil salesmen are purely to make them money, not to make you money.
