  • The new SKILSAW SPT99-11 10-inch Heavy Duty Worm Drive Table Saw should not be confused with its smaller brother that was released last year (SPT70WT-22). SKILSAW’s new saw is a larger version with more power delivered through a worm drive powertrain with a bit larger motor. The two SKILSAW table saws share a 3-5/8" depth of cut, but the new SPT99-11 features 30-1/2" rip capacity with a rack and pinion system that makes fence adjustments quickly and accurately. Included with the SPT99-11 is a new gravity rise stand with 16" wheels with ball bearings. The new table saw and stand weigh in at 94 pounds, but the stand design allows for easy loading into a truck with just one person.
    Precision & Accuracy
    The SKILSAW Heavy-Duty Worm Drive Table Saw uses rack and pinion fence system that helps to maintain the fence parallel to the blade. With the rack and pinion system, the user turns a dial that moves both arms of the fence at the same time. Once the cut width is reached, a locking lever is depressed holding the fence in place. There are three places the fence can be attached to the rack, one to the left and two to the right. The far right attachment point allows for the 30-1/2" rip capacity.
    Also, unlike some other jobsite saws on the market, the SKILSAW allows the user to adjust the blade to be parallel to the miter slots. This might seem like a normal adjustment, but some saws are fixed. This adjustment is a plus for the SKILSAW SPT99-11
    Rip Fence
    Fence quality on a jobsite saw can vary greatly. SKILSAW has a three position fence that rests on a rack and pinion. All three positions are adjustable to ensure they are parallel to the blade. This fence attaches to the rack and pinion in both the front and back and is held parallel with bolt heads.
    This fence also has a material support for when the cuts extend out beyond the table top. The material support folds to the left from its storage position and locks at the same height as the table to help support the wide material. This material support can also be placed in the upper slot to be used as an auxiliary fence for use when the fence is over the table top. This allows for more room for push sticks and visibility when cutting thin strips.
    Blade Height & Bevel Adjustments
    The blade height on the SPT99-11 is adjusted by turning the elevation wheel. The operation is smooth and works as one would expect even when the table is full of sawdust. Just behind the elevation wheel is the bevel lock handle. To change the bevel angle, loosen the lock handle clockwise and slide the elevation wheel until the pointer is at the desired angle.
    The SKILSAW SPT99-11 can bevel from -1° to 47°, but is set from the factory to have positive stops at 0° and 45°. These stops are adjustable through a cam screw. Since the bevel adjustment is a very simple mechanism on this saw, having those locks in important to the accuracy of the saw and quick setup.
    SKILSAW SPT99-11 Features
    SKILSAW's worm drive gearing
    3-5/8″ depth of cut at 90° cuts through 4X lumber
    30-1/2″ rip capacity
    Precision rack and pinion fence system
    Rugged rolling stand with 16″ wheels
    Dust port elbow helps contain debris
    Outfeed and left support
    Basic Performance
    SKILSAW’s worm drive powertrain is designed to deliver awesome torque and has a no-load speed of 5,000 RPM. The table saw's torque is apparent when you flip the switch and the saw comes to life. Cutting dimension lumber, even 4x lumber, was a breeze. The saw was able to handle rough cut hardwoods without issue.
    Cutting sheet goods hardly put any stress on the saw and would feed almost as fast as one is comfortable. The power of this saw will impress the pro's looking for a good saw that will not let them down, no matter the wood, the thickness or the type of cut.
    Dust Collection
    Many people do not put dust collection high on the list of must-haves on a table saw, but we feel it is pretty important. Many finish carpenters are working indoors and need a solid system to collect dust. This table saw has a 2-1/4" port to attach a vacuum or the included elbow. The elbow is a nice addition for anyone not using a vacuum. Rather than having the dust shoot out and the person catching the wood, the elbow directs it down and would allow it to be collected in a 5-gallon bucket.
    The dust collector cover is removable so large pieces that will not clear the port can easily be removed.
    Blade Changes
    When it comes time to change the blade, the blade lock lever on the SKILSAW is superior to working with two wrenches. This table saw has a 5/8" arbor and can accept a dado cutting up to 13/16" wide. SKILSAW does offer a dado blade insert for this application. SKILSAW does not recommend wobble dado sets on this saw.
    If you are into cutting thin strips, there is also an optional zero clearance plate available as an option.

    Now that is what I call a real review. I am now going to buy this saw after considering other models. Thanks for a perfect review and now I know everything about this saw and I Love it.
    I am just a new 76 year old guy who is retired and taking up wood working as a hobby and probably this saw is more than I will ever need in power. I also like the fence and to me that is a must in a saw as an accurate fence that is always parallel to the blade when it is moved..

    I just ordered one of these table saws this evening. I think it will be a great saw to fill in until I can get my cabinet saw. I need to finish the floor in the shop first, so buying heavy stationary tools right now would just make for a cluttered up mess and be in the way in the shop until the floor is complete. I like that this saw can cut through a standard 4x4 my current contractor's table saw can't....and you'd think for being a contractor saw it would do so. The worm drive torque is what I'm mostly after, it'll be able to cut through hardwoods as well as standard dimensional lumber. Even being a larger heavier saw, the mobile base will be very welcomed to easily move the saw around from the shop to my carport, or wherever I want to use it, rather than being stuck in the shop like a stationary saw would be.
    I also found out that Skil has a Worm Drive miter saw....that'll be next on my purchase list.
    My grandfather passed away recently, and my aunt and uncle decided they want all of his old shop tools....so, with that being said, I may as well buy what I want and have good quality tools like grandpa always had. There's nothing wrong with grandpa's old tools they're just going to a new home here soon, which is great that someone else in the family is going to use them.

    I didn't even know they made this until a few weeks ago, and when I saw it I knew I'd like to get it when I was able to. Amazon had it for $100 off for black friday, $550, which made it a buy for me. I actually got it because I need furniture and I'd rather make it than buy it. I recommend the Freud P410T (premier fusion) 40T thin kerf blade. This blade is sold as "general purpose" but it cuts and rips wood damn near perfectly. I used to have this blade on a Bosch table saw (which I liked, but had to part ways with), and I was able to achieve excellent results in the projects that I took on.

    I bought this saw after watching multiple reviews. The stand is a very good asset to its usefulness and ease of transport and I like everything about this saw -- especially the power of the worm drive. I have a few friends who came out to the job site and oogled my table saw. They have a Dewalt table saw. Essentially they stated the fence on this saw is technically the same, but the power is much better. After putting their hands on the saw I believe they will be purchasing one. If you're on the fence about buying this saw -- get off and get in your truck and buy one!

    Identical fence and rack and pinion on the DeWalt 7491RS I have. Or so it seems. Nice large wheels and easy to load on the truck. Nice. Better thought out than my DeWalt.

    • @therealsparkman
      @therealsparkman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Moon Pie I have to agree with the other guy. DeWalt do sell their tools at a much more expensive price level than pretty much the rest of the market, including Bosch. I buried my portable unit in the back forty because it just wasn't measuring up to precision and lacking quality cuts.
      I don't think there is actually a table saw on the market that is head and shoulders above all the rest. They are all plastic and made for ease of use, but in reality are only good for quick work construction. They are all made in China, too. If you want to get into finesse cuts and precise measurements, then you will need to buy a big stationary unit for thousands more. Not ideal for those who don't have the room and want portability.

    • @CrimFerret
      @CrimFerret 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@therealsparkman Pretty much on the nose. These saws are meant to be easy to move around, rode hard, put away wet, and when they break they are simply replaced. This one seems to have a better motor and really well done stand. There's still a lot of plastic though. This isn't a high end stationary cabinet level saw. I suspect the stand on this one will sell as many of them as the actual saw itself (which also seems a bit better than what DeWalt sells). The price is higher but not that significant for a construction company.

    has anyone had to adjust the blade parallel? some reviews are saying they can't get any adjustment.like this review.
    " Design defect: It's just not square! It can't be straightened.
    When I received this saw I used it a fair bit ripping boards and it worked just fine. Then I got a nice miter gauge that I attached to the table and I noticed my fence wasn't straight. I straightened the fence relative to the table, and I noticed the blade wasn't straight either! Whoever assembled the saw in the factory looks like they adjusted the fence to compensate for the out of whack blade angle.
    So I crack open the manual and read the instructions for adjusting the blade angle. You should be able to loosen 4 bolts and turn the saw, then tighten em down again. I did that for about 6 hours, every time I tighten it down it's right back where it was.
    I called support. I explained the situation.. he advised me to try again, leaving one bolt tighter as a pivot point. That didn't work.
    I crawled under the saw to look at these bolts.. They're 6mm shafts in 7mm ROUND holes. There's not enough room for anything to move under there to appreciably adjust the blade angle. The manual is just plain wrong.
    I called support again, and he thought that those should be slotted holes, and maybe my saw was put together wrong. He advised me to return it to Home Depot, so I did.
    The replacement saw is in the same state. Fence is skewed to match blade angle, neither square with the table they're attached to. Bolts are in round, non-adjustable holes.
    "

I also have a track saw thus debating the need for a need for a large table saw really not being necessary. Does anyone think this saw could do the job of one making cabinets and fine wood working cuts?

      It's going on sale at my work and I've gotten into woodworking and it's time to upgrade from my cheap bare bones ryobi. That's what I'm hoping it will do and after assembling it and taking measurements (yes I got looks from coworkers lol) it seems decent to say the least.

      Jobsite table saws lack the finesse and accuracy of a fine cabinet saw. If you're doing very high end work you intend to make money with a cabinet saw is a good idea, most people who work on sites including myself use a jobsite table saw that is easily portable. A well adjusted jobsite saw from a reputable brand will handle most if not all homeowner tasks. Cabinet saws are for people who want another level of accuracy and features.

    • @servant74
      @servant74 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really. In this case it means it has more applied torque during cutting. But it does have the same amperage motor, so the extra 'power' is just from application through the worm drive, rather than direct drive, and my guess is the motor runs cooler even when delivering maximum power.

    • @WorkshopAddict

      Servant74 hit it! This motor has a very large winding and can dissipate heat easily. The size of the motor would normally be 20 amp, but due to construction needs, it is designed as a 15 amp motor. It is a rugged motor, meant to run all day long.

    • @alphaforce6998
      @alphaforce6998 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does, up to 13/16" wide. They even mentioned this in the video. This saw is not "standard" in that it has a worm-drive motor rather than the common direct drive, and it has a rack-and-pinion fence. Either one of these is good on its own, but both together is awesome. You never had a worm drive skilsaw did you?

      @@alphaforce6998 sorry you might have mis-read my comment. I was sold after watching the lvl cutting. I literally meant that saying this saw has everything you expect in a table saw ... Then cut the lvl ... Then drop the mike would have been impressive enough.

      @@alphaforce6998 and if the mentioned dado I missed it.
      As far as worm drive goes... It's a nice feature. I love worm drive as a matter of fact. Good for extra torque.... Bad for rpm as that is the trade off. Not 100% sold that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread in a saw. Given that you shouldn't be pushing that hard on it.
      I still haven't looked in to motor strength to see if it's comparable power or if they skimped on the motor power relying on the torque of worm drive to carry the cut

    • @alphaforce6998
      @alphaforce6998 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@black_dragon-carpentry Thought your comment was sarcastically claiming the saw is nothing special... Maybe the worm drive RPM isn't as high as an unloaded direct-drive saw. The SPT99-11 is rated at 5,000 RPM unloaded and my saw blade recommends keeping it below 7,000 so I don't really see a benefit to a higher RPM than this. Worm drive maintains its speed better than a direct-drive would under load. I've used the handheld wormdrive skilsaw since I was a teenager...in fact I have the one I had when I was a teenager and it still works just as good as it did new. Just change the oil every now and then and you're good.

    • @black_dragon-carpentry
      @black_dragon-carpentry ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alphaforce6998 yup... I won't use anything but a worm drive.
      Actually a higher rpm is desirable in a full sized table saw blade as it allows for more teeth to contact as fed ... Smaller cuts smaller tear out.
      Unlike a handheld saw where you can get away with a more forceful feed and let torque do it's thing (quick ply cuts or deep solid wood lvl cuts) on a table saw that's very disadvantageous .
      Cutting on a table saw is more like using an abrasive wheel.
      My biggest question is how has this saw has held up over the last 5 years?

    About 2 weeks ago I bought a Skilsaw SPT99-12 along with a dado and Zero Clearance throat plate. The table saw, works fine. The regular throat plate and the dado throat plate are made of metal and work fine. However, the Zero Clearance throat plate is made of cheap plastic and bends with weight. This causes the angle to the blade to change from 90 degrees to something else. Something I'm sure you don't want. Since the Zero Clearance throat plate is the throat plate I use the most I called Skilsaw to find out if there was something better I could buy. It turns out that the cheap plastic Zero Clearance Throat Plate is all they have. Well, what’s so great about a 90-degree angle anyway?
    So, if you buy a SP99-12 it looks like you'll be stuck as well. How can a company build a great 6 hundred dollar table saw and screw it up with a 49 cent plastic throat plate, it boggles the mind.

    Absolute junk !!! Pretty much everything broke on it within 4 months of daily jobsite use. The tires even melted in the Texas sun, lol. Only positive thing I can say is you can leave it on the jobsite overnight with that Skil name on the side of it and it will still be there in the morning. Push stick holder is cool, little plumbing elbow to aim some of the dust down cool. No blade lock so you can perform a dado or a rabbet, not cool. Putting the blade adjustment jack screw inside the dust port with the blade majorly not cool. So the jack screw which they engineered to be super tight as they have no blade lock gets all gummed up with dust, its hell to clean then the handle which is of coarse plastic only has a 1/4 inch of flat spot in contact with the shaft so it strips out almost immediately and your using vice grips to raise and lower the blade which you have taken off so you can get your hand in there with a small wire brush to try and clean the jack screw off. Then you JB weld the handle back on once you get back to the shop. I'm expecting the red fence lock handle to snap off any day now. If your a DIY'er and cut some 1/4 once every two years to make a new Rudolf for your manger scene, then its a great saw, if you make a living with your tools then get a Dewalt or pretty much anything other than this. Skil must mean Suck in Yiddish, lol
