    That kind of precision setup equipment is particularly good for production shops where you need the repeatability. And where you can trust that if you need to go back and remake a part, you can remake it exactly the same as the original. This is where things like high-end miter gauges and the incra fence come into play.
    I just use a dial indicator bolted to a homemade sled. That gets me within a couple thou. And that's good enough for everything I've ever had to do in my home shop.

    Mine lasted less than 2 years(new construction carpenter)only ripping MDO, LP SmartTrim, and the occasional piece of 2x stock. Fence locking lever broke off, the front rack's inner plastic bushing wore out and fell apart, and one of the brushes disintegrated.

    I was hesitant to purchase an open box carseat but it came in excellent condition and saved $35. Box was damaged as stated before I purchased it, but the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxIxQe7nPH74g_xtI5NgiE9-zpGNkfgovw car seat looks brand new and I don't think it was ever used. I will update of course if I have any issues with this carseat but I don't think I will. Also it is surprisingly lightweight, the handle feels secure unlike my previous EvenFlo that was gifted to us. Love it !

    I’ve been looking at this for a while and because of this video and the details, i ordered the 10” version. It’s on sale right now online but out of stock and not available at any big box stores. Makes me think a new model is on the way, but this fits all of my needs. I just hope it will fit under the Tonneau cover on my truck. Awesome review.

    I just ordered the bigger brother of this saw the SPT99-11. We shall see how it does. Cutting 4x4's and through hardwoods for woodworking projects. I need a small saw due to space constraints in my shop right now, so I think this saw will be a great tool.

  • @dahut3614
    @dahut3614 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the SPT99-12 with the Diablo blade and I recently installed the Jessem TS Stock Guides. Since the fence was too narrow to accommodate the width of the Jessem extrusion- which is essential to allow easy adjustment of the guides- I added a half-inch piece of UHMW plastic purchased at Woodcraft. The stock guides are nice and hold the piece being cut nicely against the fence, but I was surprised at how much they increased the force required to push a piece of wood across the blade. The added width of the fence also interferes with the swinging of the "work support/auxiliary fence," but it can still be installed by removing the two screws and placing it in position manually. I was thinking that when folded, the saw would take-up much less room, but the space savings was not as much as I imagined. Folding the saw does keep it from being used as a storage table, though, and it is very convenient to move with those large wheels. I look forward to your upcoming review of the 10" Skilsaw!

  • @slam854
    @slam854 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, dial indicators are a must for keeping the saw true. Mine is called DigiAlign & has a spring loaded miter slot anchored to an adjustable arm. I wish they would have sent you the SPT99-11 10" version of this saw which cuts 30 1l2" & accepts 13/16 dado. $649 I almost bought that saw but went with Skil 6307 as space is a factor.

  • @Clint3029

    Really good review! I have the SPT99-11 (the 10” version, which is just a larger version of the reviewed saw) and everything was set up perfectly when I received it. The gravity stand of the SPT99-11 is awesome. The riving knife is fiddly but works well. The miter gage is just cheap and the zero clearance insert is near worthless for cutting thin strips or supporting small thicknesses. I don’t understand why Skil made such a great saw and cheaped out on the few items. Outside of those the saw has been great for the last three years.

      1. Keep the cost of the saw down
      2. Most people who use better mitre gauges already have them, or will buy whatever third party one they want.
      Yeah, it would have been nice if it came with a slightly nicer one though. But I understand why it only comes with an 'entry-level' one

    I have an older Ryobi table saw (when they still were in their blue color phase) I got in 2006 when we remodeled out kitchen. It did the job and is still useful for basic cuts. I was considering the DeWalt DWE7485 job-site saw, currently (1-8-2024) $299 at Lowe’s and HD, however several reviews have said it will not handle a Dado blade. This is why I am looking at this Skilsaw as the specs say it will cut up to 1/2” dados which is fine.

    8K subscribers, nice.
    Mike, when you check the blade for parallel, do you use the same tooth at the front and back? All blades will have some wobble or run-out. For accurate measurements mark a tooth, and measure at the front of the blade. Rotate that tooth to the back, and measure it there. You may know all this, but you did say, "You guys tell me."
    For anyone wanting to learn more about run-out and table saw alignment I recommend the "Crucial Table Saw Alignments and Adjustments" video by Workshop Companion. The section on run-out starts at 7:37.

    Awesome video! This just arrived and setting it up now. Love the detail on adjusting riving knife, mine is off maybe a 1/16, was pretty clueless until I saw your video. Not sure why the dado plates have such an issue, mine looks like a return also, suspect amazon just says this looks fine and tosses it back in good pile, may order plate direct from skilsaw. I read oil should be replaced after 10hrs, kinda like a new car 10yrs ago with breakin oil. Maybe a video on changing that at some point? Awesome job, I was swayed from the dewalt mainly for dado on a 8.25!

    You have the best table saw reviews on TH-cam! I'm in the market for one, and your videos have been extremely helpful. Have you looked into the Kobalt model TS10602? It appears to be fairly new, and some people are saying it's a copy of the Metabo. Maybe it's actually made in the same factory. Both the Kobalt and the Metabo supposedly have plastic gears to adjust the blade height. I'm wondering if you think that's a problem.

    • @ProjectsForAllReviews
      @ProjectsForAllReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I just checked out the Kobalt. Looks intriguing and priced right. I’ll put it on my list. Plastic gears aren’t inherently bad but I think it really depends on how your going to use it. In a high use commercial setting I’d prefer, and pay extra for metal. Around the house it’s probably just fine. Thanks for the comment!!

    For those that don’t want to spend $100 or more for the Woodpeckers table saw alignment tool but may already own a digital vernier caliper you can buy a Mag-DRO Mitre Slot Base at Rockler for $9.99 and have the same level of accuracy in measuring blade alignment to miter slot and fence alignment. This jig works just as accurate and just as fast. The Skilsaw job site table saw looks like a nicely made machine that would be a great addition for the carpenter. I don’t know of the different blades that are available for this saw but a smaller 7-1/4” blade could be used which opens you up to greater possibilities.

      I have the previously tested model Skil Portable table saw and it works great...if Skil came out with a 10" worm drive I'd buy one over the previously tested lower end model for sure....although the lower end model is good, the torque you get from the worm drive motor is great for cutting through hardwoods and for dado blade use.

    👍 Lol! The only thing wrong with this video is that it came too late as I already nabbed a Skill Table Saw from one of your previous vids. I wonder if this fence would fit on the 10 inch'er? Coming from old cast iron, belt drive Craftsman we used to herniate from job to job,(stolen) to a pretty cool older Ryobi that has side and back extensions like the 10 inch Skil, and an easy stand like the 10 inch Dewalt, now with worn out bearings. You sold me on this. As a 70 year old carpenter, I'm always looking for the lightest weight and highest quality. If you consider the price of such tools over time, my tools have paid for themselves time and time again. My advice to younger people, don't skimp for even a few hundred more. Buy the very best tool you can afford. You'll thank yourself years later.

    Fantastic video! Do you have any advice for making an adjustment to ensure the blade retracts all the way into the table? I've got the SPT99-11 and the blade doesn't retract all the way into the table. It sticks up by about 1/8". I cleaned and lubed up the threaded rod that drives it and the non threaded rod that it rides on but of course that just made it smoother. I only noticed this issue a month or so ago so I think this issue and my fence not being square to the table are due to a kickback incident I had a while back.

    • @SomeDudeOnline
      @SomeDudeOnline ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nevermind! Your video inspired me to go re-examine my saw and I found that in addition to the threaded rod and the non threaded rod, there is another non threaded rod that it rides on and at the bottom of this non threaded rod, the area where it’s mounted had sawdust pressed in place which is what was preventing the blade from retracting completely.

    Great video! I do have a question regarding the dado stack. Skil sells one for this saw but it is only 6”, and I also saw on OhioTools the Freud 6" Pro Dado Set saying it was for 8” table saws. But you are using an 8” set.
    Does the size mainly have to do with the maximum depth? Stability (the 8’ can be set lower in the saw but have a greater depth as an example.
    With the Skil dado set being half the price (about $45) and something I will use on occasion, that is a big savings. If you could give some clarification that would be great. Thanks!

      Hello! I rechecked the owners manual on this one, pdf is on Skil’s website. Its says dado sets no larger than 8 inches so I assume the 6 inch set will work fine. The set in the video has been used and abused a lot and at about $100 is in the middle to low price range for dados. I definitely recommend it. The biggest limiting factor here is this saw can only do .5 inch wide dados. Here’s the owners manual link. Thanks for watching!

    I wonder if the worm drive will be an issue? Direct drive and belt drive can survive a blade stop, but a worm drive has high potential of the worm eating up the mating gear, which would be an expensive repair. Your thoughts or experience?

      I have a 40 yr old worm drive Skilsaw. I have cut concrete, stone, steel and wood as a carpenter and have abused the hell out of it as well as dropped it a few times cutting roofs. It has had many binding blade stops over the years, no broken parts. It is still the most durable saw made, as long as you do the maintenance, and change the oil.

    The riving knife can’t be removed? I do a lot of drop cuts where I need to remove my riving knife…wonder if it drops low enough for me to still do that? If not it may be a deal breaker which sucks. Any info would be greatly appreciated

      I’d have to go back and look but I believe the only job saw with a removable riving knife we’ve done so far is the DeWALT 7491RS. The knife drops pretty low on this one I’ll try and remember to measure max depth next time I’m in the shop for ya. Thanks for watching!

    Wouldn't it be possible to take one of those zero clearance plates and put the dado stack on it . cut it with that specific set of dado set? Theoretically wouldn't that be a zero clearance for a dado stack?

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, and really a good idea. Although, you'd probably want to buy several extra zero clearance plates so you can make each one for various different dado widths and just mark them.

    • @ProjectsForAllReviews
      @ProjectsForAllReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair question. Chervon started sending tools when I was at about 1200 subs and we’ve done a ton of them now. We’ve got Wen, Evolution and more Skil/Flex tools in the shop waiting for reviews. After those I’d like to do some Makita and Bosch. I only have time for 1 vid a week so it’s been tough to mix it up. Thanks for watching!!!

      @@ProjectsForAllReviews so, yes? I mean, I don’t really care as your reviews aren’t fluff like a lot of “sponsored” or “free product” reviews aren’t, and honestly I like someone giving reviews geared more towards your DIY level tools. Was just curious as it seems like you’ve been covering the entire Skil lineup recently.

    • @ProjectsForAllReviews
      @ProjectsForAllReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nathan1sixteen Thanks you. This channel will never be associated with any tool company other than receiving tools for honest reviews. So far Chervon Evolution and assorted Amazon sellers have sent tools. As the channel grows I’m sure we’ll get more companies and a more diverse lineup of stuff to check out.

      @@ProjectsForAllReviews If you have an ear with Chervon, you might talk to them about parts availability. I'm looking for a pro-grade jobsite saw, and the Dewalt DWE7491 and Skilsaw SPT99-11 are at the top of my list. For the Dewalt, you can buy nearly every single part for that saw online and have it in a few days. For the Skilsaw, good luck, as there are only a handful of parts available. A contractor can't afford to be out of commission because he can't find parts for his saw. The fact that the Dewalt is made in North America probably has a large bearing on this.
