  • This 10 inch table saw from Skil ticks all the right boxes and then some! For about the same price (or slightly lower) than a Dewalt jobsite table saw, you get a rack and pinion fence, a built-in stand, and some added creature comforts and innovations that I haven't seen in a jobsite table saw in the same price range. There are actually 3 (not 2) things I don't like about this saw. I don't like that it's corded. If it was cordless, I may have given up my Flexvolt already. #DIYweekends #SkilTableSawReview

    We got ours last October 2023. Sadly it conked out yesterday, February 5, 2024. The armature assembly got burned. We usually used it for plywood and softwood such as ecofor. We were ripping 2x4 ecofor lumber to size it down to 2x2s when we noticed smoke coming out from its motor. Hopefully Skil Philippines would address soonest our concern upon receiving our inquiry. This review nailed it for us to get one among other reviews we watched since it was launched. Overall, it is a great table saw.

    I just received mine today from Lowes and have to say I am impressed with the little table saw. I had a very large Delta that I gave to one of my son-in-laws because it took up too much room in my small shop, but the Skil is perfect. Great video and thanks for taking the time to do a well-thought-out review.

    For me, I think there are 3 reasons why I like the SKIL table saw. First it's adjustable leg, for uneven floors. Second it's Wingnut to pivot the blade which other tablesaw don't have. 3rd and final thing I like is its elbow dust port. If you don't own a vacuum yet, you can put a bucket or make your own DIY dust collector.

    Started out with the smaller DeWalt 10” job-site saw, then upgraded to the Delta Contractor saw for my garage shop. Loved the Delta but it was a pain to move around with the poorly implemented drop down wheel up front. Ended up downsizing my shop and just picked up the skil saw yesterday and will be putting it into service today. Was looking at the beefier DeWalt but at $650 dollars versus the $280 Skill that had the majority of the same features, it wasn’t a tough decision. Great review!

    All been discussed clear of what to expect on SKIL table saw. Seems its lightweight as seen on the opening of video. Foldable stand is an advantage and the adjustable footing for the uneven flooring for a more rigid position. But what catches my intetest is the tool free calibration made easy feature,specific to the blade calibration to be parallel to miter slot. Though its corded it is still admirable at it its cost

    When I first started out as a carpenter i was advised to buy the Skil , Skill saw , it cost 99 pounds , 64mm cut , came with a fence and a tilting bases to 45 degrees , its made of plastic very light and strong .
    I bought it in 1994 and still have it today and it works just as good as it did when it was new , what I like the most is how light it is because i can use it with one hand if i have to .
    Im a huge fan of Makita machines they are the best IMO but I wouldn't but one of thier Skill saws just too heavy for my liking.

    this brand is somehow classified as budget in our country compared to lets say, milwaukee, makita, hikoki AND even dewalt(which i have always myself considered budget compared to previous mentioned(i own several Dewalts, and love them)). but i think skil is pretyy much up to par to all brands i have mentioned. in the end it all comes down to what your personal likings are. i use makita's all day at work(im a carpenter), but my personal favourite is milwaukee, and hikoki. at home i use my dewalt(mostly tablesaw and i love it) and AEG drills along with a 12v ratchet wrench from milwaukee for working on my cars..... and a cordless drill and impact drill from milwaukee.

    Understand before buying that you are trading precision to get an excellent set of performance, safety and usability features. My fence isn't quite vertical, and the table is slightly cupped across about 8 inches centered on the blade. The stock miter gauge reads out 46 degrees when set to 45 degrees, and its contact face isn't square to the table either. None of those are dealbreakers for me and after a month of use I think this was money well spent. Remember the warranty is only 1 year unless registered within 1 month of purchase.

  • @MattChoo031

      The miter gauge, like most jobsite table saws, suck! 😅 It's the usual cheap plastic + aluminum kind.

  • @ibtarnine
    @ibtarnine 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I picked up this awhile ago and it has been great, easily the best value by a long shot. It's at least as good as the Dewalt, but also better in some ways, such as having a standard sized miter slots (don't think the Dewalt has this, the older model definitely didn't), and the comparable Dewalt (the 10") is twice as expensive. I believe it also has more infeed space than the Dewalt too, which is preferrable since you can always add a table behind a saw, but you can't add one in front since it restricts access to the power button/adjustments. Squaring it up was easy, but the fence was out of plumb with no way to adjust.. or so it seemed. I folded up a strip of a standard sheet of printer paper and shimmed under the fence on the right side on both sides, and now it's perfect. Glued the paper after that and it's no longer an issue.
    I personally think it's more than good enough for hobbyists to build some serious furniture as long as you replace the clearance insert, which is flimsy plastic and will sink down in the center with the smallest amount of pressure. The insert is of course fine for a job site and general use, but will not be so good for precision work. I got a set of four very solid zero clearance inserts (the Skil ones are the same awful flimsy plastic, do not buy!!) for $30 from some guy on Etsy, so as far as I'm concerned, aside form its size, it's about as good as any cabinet saw when properly calibrated/accessorized.

    • @BIGplanetLife
      @BIGplanetLife 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Use the allen head bolts along the fence rail to adjust the fence squareness. Loosen the bolts that your fence is riding on and use a square to set the fence so that it is square to the miter slot, then tighten the allen bolts down.

    • @ibtarnine
      @ibtarnine 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BIGplanetLife Thanks, but the issue with the insert isn't whether it's level or not, but that the plastic is thin and flimsy, allowing it to sink down in the center when performing any cuts with pieces that are smaller than the insert. Unfortunately there is no easy solution to this besides replacing the insert, although it may be possible to modify the stock insert with a few slim metal bars. I think if you cut grooves into the insert in areas where they will not obstruct anything under the insert, you could insert some bars and fasten them with some super glue or epoxy to stiffen the entire insert.

    Really appreciate your review, particularly the sound comparisons. I haven't seen anyone try to compare the sound to other saw. I just purchased this saw and was surprised just how loud it is. In your phone meter testing, it looks like the SKil is actually slightly quieter than other saws. Were you using the same phone in all those tests? It looks like you might have a new phone for this video.

      @@VincheroKarpintero No worries! I was just curious. You're still one of the few youtubers that have actually measured the sound! In your opinion, did it seem like the Skil 6307 was much louder than other saws? It's not really a big deal but that was the first thing I noticed about it.

      @umfan526 in my opinion, the Skil felt roughly the same as other corded table saws I have tried but substantially louder than my cordless brushless Flexvolt table saw.

    Sir, great review. Which is this model?

  • @jensendisuyo4181
    @jensendisuyo4181 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wonder if the resellers of this table saw purposely raised the price because of its features, it is without a doubt competing against DeWalt and Bosch's table saws. It would be the best "bang-for-the-buck" job site saw if it was priced how it is 10 months ago because I bought mine for 17,800 here in Iloilo City, I checked the price today and it's 22,500. Surely inflation wouldn't cause a price increase that drastic, right? Anyway, you may have forgot to mention how compact it could be considering it has foldable legs unlike the DeWalt and even Lotus' where (unless you'd like to work on the floor) you'd still have to carry a stand.
    P.S You can 3D print the plastic gears which is 1. Cheaper than metal, 2. Wouldn't rust, 3. You can choose your gear ratio be fine or coarse.
    Love your vids, cheers!

    Another question I have seen other reviews of this saw and they comment and show that its parallel guide is not completely square against the table

    • @genesishep
      @genesishep ปีที่แล้ว

      Every review I've seen has claimed the opposite. Every review I've watched claim the guide is perfectly square. But even if it wasn't the ability to easily calibrate it yourself is built in. That's something a lot of the saws in the same price range do not offer. If you are interested in this, I don't know that you can beat the quality and features for the cost. This will be my next portable table saw unless something comes on the market that can beat its features for the same money.
      If you are looking at this saw and are unsure about grabbing one, just look at how many reviews you have seen saying how good it is and trust them.

      @@genesishep I believe he means, if you lay a square on the table with the blade pointing up, put it against the fence, it is very slightly off. I just checked, and mine is as well. Not really an issue unless you are cutting with the thin part of the wood on the table, and the long part up in the air, like for a tenon. I may make an adjustable add on fence for that purpose. Great saw, especially for $400. Will it last a lifetime? I doubt it but for four bills I can afford to buy a new one in a few years if the plastic parts wear out. I actually think someone is making metal replacement gears, think I saw them somewhere.
